Anybody else having trouble updating? I download the update fine, but my iPhone has been stuck with the dimmed Apple logo and a full loading bar for about 15 minutes. Wait it out or go ahead and restore?

i can see this being useful but also very annoying, gives me windows vista pop up reminder vibes :D

also i know options are great but iOS is slowly turning into Android. Too much text explaining what a toggle does instead of simply giving it a proper and clear name thats self-explanatory :p

Yeah there's a lot of text explanations.

I like the simplicity of my iPhone, hence why I have it. I'd like to keep things basic. I don't mean strip back features and have the most basic mobile device but yeah, I don't want to see the bloated-ness of Android sneak in due to peer-pressure. Each platform has it's pros and cons and it's why I got an Apple phone.

Why don't they just add a status bar icon indicating Wi-Fi calling? Maybe a phone with a signal coming out of it icon? lol

That is exactly what I was thinking too. A phone symbol on top of the current wifi symbol.

'"Last Updated" notification to let users know when images were last synced to iCloud.'

I know added complexity is a two-edged sword. But, the Internet being the unpredictable thing it is, this kind of info to at least remove some of the mystery of cloud data is a good thing. I feel more confident when I know what's going on than when I don't!

Help guys! Mine's stuck on the OTA install with a tiny bit of the progress bar remaining! It's been like it for a good 20-30 mins now! Anyone else getting this?

Presumably the phone will switch to cellular. Or drop the call, and when you redial it will connect via cellular.

I guess that's what I'm trying to determine - if it switches to cellular, all good. If it drops the call... That's frustrating. I'll have to turn my wifi off in my office if I plan to make a call and then walk through downtown, where my phone will automatically connect to several different wifi networks along the way.

I can't imagine that it would simply drop the call... there has to be a seemless handoff.

That said though, you can enable and disable wifi calling if you don't want to use that feature.

It's interesting to think that an actual human designed the menu area here:

I hope Apple innovates a method of consolidating those dots into, say, thin vertical rectangles. They could even be called something like poles… or… bars.

They'll make them one pixel wide, translucent, AND match the background color.

Agreed with this. Btw... why does the carrier name need to even appear on the top? Makes no sense to me. As an example, my work Android phone does not have this at all, so I know it can't be a "carrier mandated" thing.

Apple, please get rid of the carrier name in the menu bar. It's totally unnecessary and redundant. The user *already knows* what carrier he/she belongs to!

Mine just says 4G or LTE. Are you saying that it will instead say AT&T when it's on wifi?

For anyone trying to update that gets stuck with the progress bar at the very end, here's the fix:

1. Hold the sleep/wake button with the home button for around 5 seconds until the screen goes black, then release.
2. Press the sleep/wake button ONLY to power the phone back on.

Worked for me

Or just keep holding the two buttons until the screen goes black and then powers back on.

Carrier advertisements

Carriers wanted it there since Apple refuses to put other brand names on their hardware. You can see why Android devices always have the carrier's name actually on the phone itself.

I have not installed ios 8 as i am not a developer. However is there is any lag in the phone due to the long carrier name "T-mobile wi-fi".
I also have a long carrier name and the phone lags badly!!

Doesn't this directly contradict the rumor published an hour ago that said that this beta may be the final one before the GM?

Most likely we have another month to go. Personally I'm on a bug hunt right now, Safari has one hang issue I'm hoping they resolve before GM.

T-Mobile WiFi Calling

I don't know if it is current, but back when I had at-Mobile and the wifi calling feature, it would drop the call when out of wifi range. The system couldn't seamlessly hand off between the two because of t-mobile's inability to reroute the call from their internet connection to a tower.

Don't know if that is still true, but maybe that helps.

I really like the idea of icloud drive but 5GB is stingy. With all of the other major companies offering around 15gb for free, do you think Apple may change their minds and offer 15gb as well? Let alone flickr give 1TB for free storage and auto upload!
Granted their prices for extra storage aren't extortionate but 5GB really is a bit mean IMO.

The whole idea of cloud storage supported by third parties is fairly stupid in my mind. I'd rather see Apple offer a server solution to Mac OS that lets you keep a partition on the net for iOS use. That way you can store as much as you are capable of buying.

In any event yes 5GB of storage is close to stupid these days. Especially when the fees Apple wants to charge can easily buy TB of storage. I ve watched these online solutions evolve for years now and frankly don't get it. The services have the feeling of a rip off.

Wait it out.

A carrier name doesn't cause an iPhone to lag... It's a piece of text, that's it. If that's causing your phone to lag then you have serious issues. Maybe delete some of the stuff you have on there, and see if that works.

So it looks like all the handoff/SMS features were removed and disabled on the iPhone 4S?

Edit: Looks like others are having issues with it too, so it might not be only the iPhone 4S.

Edit 2: Disabled iMessage and re-enabled. Got the pop-up asking if I wanted to enable SMS Relay. I'm able to receive text messages on my Mac, but still unable to send them out.
