for those of you that "fixed it" did you simply reset all or just network settings or did you do a full restore, set up as new.

I'm trying to leave the set up as new as a last resort. can resetting network settings solve it for the most part?

My 5S is draining 30% overnight versus 1%. I've switched off notifications and Background App Refresh and it didn't help. Before I had everything switched on and only lost 1%.

Sounds like an app that is going nuts in the background. Perhaps check general >usage> Battery usage? Does that give an indication? Also check your logs under diagnostic data. This will list apps that have crashed.

Had an ip4s from a client that had similar issues a few months back. Obviously didn't have the battery usage stats but check logs and the official mail app was crashing and filling up the logs constantly. We had to reset and restore the device and after that all was ok. If it wasn't the built in mail app we could have removed and reinstalled but you can't do that with those apps!

oh guys and one more thing. as usual, Facebook is accounting for 44% of my usage. i just got a popup for the speedtest app (just used it for the first time) and the popup stated the app is still using location data in the background, even when the app is closed. i went into the app settings and changed it to "never". make sure you do this for all apps....including Facebook. it was set to "always". so even when the app is closed, or in the background at least, it was still receiving location data. I'm sure that was a huge battery hog.

All apps were below 2% except for FaceTime which 25% since I used it for 3-4 hours. However the additional 30% drain overnight is unaccounted for.

Oddly enough, the thing that seems to fix my leaky battery is turning off perspective zoom. I dropped 14% in a few hours while in standby. Turned off perspective zoom, charged, now only dropped 3% in a similar amount of time.

iPhone 6 here. My standby and usage are IDENTICAL and it won't load any of the apps to tell me what is using the most battery. I restored this from a backup of iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 was displaying the apps fine. Anyone else seeing this?

Mine took a really long time to display the apps; almost 2 minutes. Background App Refresh is completely unnecessary for any app other than Google Maps' Navigation. I don't notice anything being preloaded with it switched on. Switch it off for everything except Google Maps.

Yeah, I've waited 5+ minutes with nothing. These little nuances are infuriating.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing.

Wait at least 24 hours. A lot of internal and external processing occurs in a new iPhone setup, especially if you did an iCloud restore.

Its already been over 24 hours but I will continue to wait. Gonna let the battery completely drain tonight. If that doesn't solve it, I'll restore as new to see, and if that doesn't solve it, then I guess I have to go exchange it.

Iphone 5 >

After update , a first - rather quick (4h usage, 13h standby) 1st day, after restart and fully charged second one was good one with 6h usage (more like 5 i think, something was in the bg) 23h standby.

As of this moment, I'm on 3.34h usage, 1d,3h standby - and on 45% battery.

Now , that 's more like me. It even feels like it's better then iOS7 noticable.
(not to mention hickups and glitches dissapeared after tweaking settings and two restarts)

So, give it a day or two.

Possible solution?

Hey all - I have iPhone 5, also noticed battery drain. Seemed to happen once battery had gotten below 50%, then rapidly accelerated.
Anyway, I went into location services and an app 'Brewster' was using location services. Shut down all apps that didn't need location services now (travel apps, such as booking.com, LinkedIn, Evernote etc) and the problem seemed to resolve itself .. 2 days now with no battery issues.
Maybe give that a whirl?

I did the exact same thing with my 5. Still got rubbish battery life today.

Try recalibrating the battery, I did this afternoon and it finally resolved my issue. My 5s was draining like crazy, couldn't figure it out all weekend even after reset all settings, restoring, turning off stuff etc.

Phone feels like before the update now mostly.

Switching off Perspective Zoom fixed my battery drain. Now it only loses 1% overnight. Even with it off, the wallpaper still moves lightly.

This sounds as if an app keeps running in the background although you don't use it or allowed it to use it in the background.

Did you already check Battery usage to see which app you didn't use much (or not at all) causes a major use in battery? See also this article and this one on iMore.

I've had similar issues (with same usage and standby time) after i switched from iOS6 > iOS7. The problem was a Dutch app called Scoupy that caused the drain because it kept running in the background (iBeacon/GPS). I deleted the app and it resolved the battery drain. The app released an update (months later) which resolved the drain finally. It was however very hard in the previous versions to find out the app which caused the drain. In iOS8 that is much easier now.

I've seen others who had background process off for e.g. Google Hangout and Skype but still had major battery usage since iOS8.

Please look also into the apps who are allowed to use 'Background refresh', 'Location services' and 'Push Notifications' and decide which apps you really want to be using which feature this saves battery and you can find out which one (or more) are causing the drain.
You can now in iOS8 even specify per app if you want it to be using GPS not just yes or no, but "Always", "When Using", and "Never".

Just plugged in my 6+ for the first time in a bit with around 13+ hours of usage and 2+ days of standby and this was at 20% warning this morning. Been very happy so far.

OP bite the bullet and restore from as a new phone!!!! My 5s is on 2+ days standby with 4+ hours usage and is at 49%.

This is not entirely correct. Most apps on my iPhone 5 don't have the 'When using' setting, only 'Always' or 'Never'.

I've read in other places that you need to use an app at least once for the 'When using' setting will show up. That's not correct, either. For the most part we only have access to Always or Never.
