I want to install IOS8 on my iPhone 5s, but I heavily rely on my phone. Can anyone tell me if IOS8 (beta 1) is stable enough to use as a daily driver?

Is working ok for getting driving instructions so far, but it is only beta 1. For all we know 2 could break something in maps.

Since this is in beta, you never know what might not work, so in my opinion you would be taking a risk.

I chose iOS for its stability and reliability. I would never install an iOS beta on my daily drivers, not even the later betas. I check these forums from time to time and there are always complaints about bugs and issues. I couldn't deal with that.

It's beta software for a reason. You don't install it on a main device.

You've no support
Could suffer numerous issues.
Not least crashing, lock ups and more importantly data loss.

Worry warts say don't install. Install, if there is a particular function that doesn't work roll back to 7. It comes down to tolerance, what you can live with or without. I'm using as my daily and I'm ok for my basic needs. There are glitches but that's expected.

I'm fascinated by all of the comments saying to wait for beta-2.
The implication that the betas become more stable with each new release is laughable.
That's just not how it works.
Some are a step forward, yes, but some are HUGE steps backward.
Until one or two releases before GM it's really very much a crap shoot.

Agreed. It's nice to see some people understand this stuff. There was more than one rough iOS 7 beta.

iOS 8 for a daily driver?

I'm running iOS 8 beta 1 on my daily driver (iPhone 5c 32GB) and its stable enough for everyday use from my experience. There are the occasional crash/resprings, a call will drop once or twice now and then, and some apps (like google chrome) are not yet compatible, but it's working fine for me otherwise. As long as you're expecting a beta (unfinished and imperfect) software experience, there's no harm installing it. Otherwise, if you want a more "retail ready" experience, I'd wait a few months before installing. Also, you do need to be a registered/paid developer, or to have a registered UDID, if you don't, the second your phone reboots, you'll be locked out as a non-developer. I learned the hard way and paid for my registration after that experience.

I don't think "daily driver" means what you think it means in this particular instance.

I really wasn't able to use it as my daily driver. I had too many app and browser crashes. The beta 2 has helped with the settings crashing though. Overall it's still not quite stable enough for my daily driver.

iOS 8 for a daily driver?

Nope. It was for a couple of days. The crashes were annoying.

I couldn't stand it anymore so I reverted to ios 7. Too many bugs and I experienced a lot of slowdown. Now, I recommend you wait till beta 3

I wouldn't. The betas are betas and things will go wrong. And if something goes wrong enough that your phone is bricked in some way you are SOL on service. This is something every developer agrees to when they sign up and download the software. Apple even advises them not to use main devices because of this. So if something borks up your software to the point that your phone goes recovery and can't restore and Apple can tell cause of some logo change or such that it's iOS 8 you won't are cut off from service. You might get lucky and happen upon a store that will ignore it but you can't guarantee that and you have zero grounds to try to bully them into it since developers wgreed to this and if you aren't a developer you don't have permission to have the software so it's an 'unauthorized modification'

i'd wait. i have Beta 2 as my daily driver and i'm tolerating it but can't recommend it yet. a lot of necessary rebooting to correct glitches with Beta 2.

I've tried both b1 and b2 and have downgraded back to 7.1.1 with both. There are lots of bugs (missed iMessages and calls, etc) and the features I'm most interested in (predictive keyboard and Continuity) work poorly, if at all. I stuck with iOS 7 through all the betas last year, but iOS 8 has been causing me a lot more trouble (clean installs and restores alike). YMMV

Im another on the boat for waiting. Yes it would probably work daily driving, with some issues. But why risk it? Just wait
