On first impression, a lot of things appear faster in iOS8 than in 7 (I upgraded from iOS7.1.1 to 8.0 GM today). One thing I'm very happy about is that tabs don't seem to reload as much at the time being.

There does seem to be some UI lag / glitches at places, but that's to be expected in the first public build of an OS that was (apparently) majorly overshadowed by the huge effort of OS X Yosemite.

I'm sure they'll sort any problems out in the next couple of builds.

Only issue I have with GM is the sounds are all messed up and have feedback/crackle issue, even at 1/4 volume, for videos, alerts etc - really annoying, did;t have issue before on previous OS, so doubt it hardware issue :/

Here, i made a video, can you guys confirm the same lag in animations ?

It's disappointing really, i know "the latest generation" is not that correct since the air was released a year ago, but since there is no new ipad yet, it's on the spot.

Thank you.

Every iPad Air/mini retina has those issues. Some people just don't notice it. Overall, the smoothness of ios 8.0 on iPad Air is not that good, and hasn't been since iOS 7.

In general, pretty sure the people that have no complaints thought iOS 7 was smooth and/or just are not that picky.

iOS 6 was the smoothest iOS.

7.1.2 was smoother. Way smoother.

Thanks for making this video. Truly horrible performance.

Ugh. Not what I want to hear.

Are GM's typically buggy with final release being perfect, or is it possibly the GM will be the final release?

If my 6 has even a little lag/stutter I'll be pissy.

GM is exactly the same as the public release.

Wouldn't be surprised if the 6 runs perfectly though. Starting to think planned obsolescence isn't a myth after all.

I heard someone say they would never upgrade their device past the OS it came with. Sounds like a good idea. My iP5 ran iOS 6 flawlessly. I can see the cracks with iOS 7.

Looks like my iP6 will stay on iOS 8 for 2 years. ;)

Well iOS 7.1.2 was smooth as butter on my iP5 to be honest.

Hmm, I restored my iPhone 5 and Air to iOS 8 GM and is everything great, battery life is the same as before, some UI glitches are there, some of them were mentioned in other topics, but performance is the same as 7.1.2.

I know there were a lot of under-the-hood changes and maybe just a few visual changes, but I am having issues only with the latter.

Yet my 5c which has same internals like 5 stutters like crazy on 8 GM. But it's perfectly smooth on 7.1.2

So it stays on 7.1.2. The only thing I would have to sacrifict 700-800 Mb of space as iOS 8 update will download and remain there forever. I also won't be able to restore to 7.1.2 later on itunes.

I put on iOS 8 on my iPad air for the handoff feature, I am tempted to go back to iOS 7. Love iOS 8 on my iPhone 5, but the iPad air is doing weird things like wifi will be fine then a few hours later it will be connected but nothing loads on safari, I have to disconnect then reconnect. I cannot scrunch to close when in settings, and I'm seeing lag in lots of places. Feels like the iOS 7gm did on my iPad 2 last year, just not quite right yet.

Agreed. iPhone 5 is fine on iOS 8. iPad Air, on the other hand, isn't that smooth, and to be honest, never was.

iOS 8 GM iPad Air performance

Has the terrible performance of iOS 8 on the iPad Aid been solved? I updated my iPhone 5 to 8.1.2 despite all the advices – and honestly it runs pretty great (though the battery sucks).

EDIT: iPad updated. Can confirm that iOS 8 runs great.
