Doesn't seem much different than 7.0 days. Nothing new or surprising at this point. Certainly far from unusable or anything even close to that, as the title of the thread seems to imply.

Exactly, but I was hoping for Apple to improve those things.

I agree with you. As i already stated, they should have built iOS 8 starting from the good things shown in ios 7.1, but it seems to me that this is just a new ios 7.0 release (in terms of performance) with some new features.

my only issue with the GM is miserable battery life. I've lost at least 2hrs of usage compared to iOS 7.

A few UI glitches here and there but battery is horrid.

I don't know what it is but most of the time the phone feels warm.

And its been setup up brand new not a restore. Only app installed is Facebook and whatsapp.

Well there your problem. Two of the worst battery hogs there is :) Turn off background refresh for those two and see if it helps. Or better yet remove them. Seriously, turn off BG refresh just as a trouble shooting step to see if it helps then maybe enable for one or the other one at a time for a day or so and see if there is a difference.

"Other" data is horrible. It expands at a rate exponentially faster than any other version of iOS on iPad at present. 4.53GB in a few days on a clean install on my 32GB iPad Air - I'm going to need the 64GB model just to have as much storage as a 16GB device in previous generations if it carries on like this.

There are so many glitches that I have to downgrade back to 7.1.2 on my 5S.
Anyone else having this issue?

I'm running the GM on a 16GB third generation iPad with Verizon (otherwise known as 'iPad3,2') and on a 16GB rear-camera-less fifth generation iPod touch. On the iPod touch, it seems to be running smoothly (and markedly faster than Beta 5 was). On said iPad, it's substantially buggier than it is on said iPod touch (though only slightly faster speed-wise than it was with Beta 5). It sounds like it may vary between models. This would make sense as each .ipsw file is different, despite them all commonly being iOS 8 GM.

I'm seriously hoping that they iron out the glitches by tomorrow. I don't remember iOS 7.0.0 being this glitchy.

Of note, I did clean DFU restores for both devices when installing the GM.

Yes I want to downgrade to ios 7.1.2 but I keep getting a message saying the firmware file is not compatible. How do I get around this?

It runs laggy. Period.

Some people are not sensitive to slight drop in fps during animations. I am very sensitive to fps where I can notice difference.

It's exactly the situation where some gamers don't find a difference between 60fps and 30fps game but some gamers revolt if fps drop to 30. Same here. The animations on iOS 8 GM are dropping massive frames. Hence they appear stuttery/laggy to many people. That gives an illusion of iOS 8 being slower.

I am not trying to insult you. Consider this as a scientific explanation.

I'm not calling you a liar, but I'm very sensitive to frame drops and it's been smooth as butter on my iPhone 5s.

You are not sensitive enough.

1. Weather app stutters when switching between cities by tapping them.
2. Notifications is definitely not doing 60fps with V-sync
3. Keyboard in Safari takes significant delay to show up. It lags while showing up. (More pronounced on iPad Air)
4. More lag compared to 7.1.2 when screen is rotated while keyboard is on screen.
5. Apps take 1-2 seconds more to start.

When the translucency effects in iOS 8 are exactly same as in iOS 7, why lag has been purposely introduced while doing same animations? That's beyond me.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned: anyone else having repeated automatic downloads for app updates and/or podcasts? At present "App in the Air" is repeatedly downloading, installing, then starting again. Previously a particular episode of at podcast was doing the same. I solved that by deleting the podcast and subscription then adding it again, but a delete of the app has not worked...

Anyone else? Any solutions?

EDIT: Just deleted and rebooted: the app claims to be downloading without command!

EDIT THE SECOND: The app has just installed itself twice without my command, and is back in the update list...! I've noticed that auto-download purchases has turned itself on (normally only have auto-update on), so I've disabled that and will try again. Wondering if I'm going to have to set up as new.

Just because you're experiencing something, doesn't mean I am too. Like I said, I can tell when frames drop and my 5s doesn't drop a single frame. Everything is 60fps as far as I can tell and I don't see stuttering anywhere.

Maybe you need to restore your phone... maybe you got a bad GM.

something is wrong with your devices m8. ipad air = 2.71 gb other, iphone 5s = 1.73gb other

Same for me, very glitchy on my 5s and Air. I backed up an iOS 7 install before upgrading to gm, so i plan to do a complete restore through iTunes but using that pre-gm backup. See if it makes a difference.
