i bet half the people who are saying "who cares, this is useless" are fat and overweight like the majority of the American population. Of course if you're fat you wouldn't care, but for those who do care this is useful.

Siri: "sir, I sense that you have HIVs... I will notify the authority regarding your condition. No effort from you is required and your partner will be contact through iMessage regarding condition. Thank you."

Wow, so much (over)reaction to what is essentially just an app that one can just not use if one doesn't want to or care about it.

Can't wait till this age 40+ market innovation ends.

I understand this is useful and all, but if you really care, you can get one of the 100000 devices/apps that already do similar things.

I don't want 2014-2016 and iOS 8 to focus on something that the entire demographic isn't really interested in. I mean, reminder to take medications...really?

If you wait until you are 40+ to worry about this stuff it is too late. If you have high BP, are overweight etc before then you have already damaged your long term health. Not to mention how useful it would be for athletes and so on.

If this thing does all the stuff being claimed for it it will be nothing short of revolutionary. Buy yer Apple shares now!

How would an iWatch monitor blood glucose levels? It would be nice to retire my lifestyle of pricking my fingers everyday.

For people that care about their health this could be pretty amazing. Body builders and fitness people it would be awesome if done right.
"Normal" people that don't care about this stuff, but it's a huge industry and will be welcomed. 10 years in the gym now I'd love a smart watch that can count heart rate and calories burned. So I'm excited for this.

You are correct, and those are the exact reasons it goes to the Junk folder.

It will be made for "normal" people. It won't have the specifics that specialized athletes need. And, normal people, as you can see by looking at the general population, do not care about their bodies at all.

Well, they want the appearance of being thin, but do as little exercise and eat as much crap as they can get away with.

----------

Can't wait. A lot people struggling with their weight and health (like me) would benefit greatly from something like this.

Really? Your current excuse for being unhealthy and overweight is "well, there isn't an app for it yet"?

Yeah, this app will solve all your problems. I'm feeling like I could use an extra million dollars, if only Apple would make a Finance app. Damn them!

If I had no fingers I'd still be able to count the amount of times I'm going to use this feature.

It has nothing to do with age you so please don't be so ignorant. This (if turn out to be true) will be amazing device for athletes or anyone who is living active lifestyle and healthy. I can't wait for this to track things easier. My gym session will be more effective, my food etc. keeping will be more organised etc. Just cause you seem to have limited and discriminating view on this doesn't mean that others do as well. Please educate yourself before you start "generalising"

Here's my design for the icon...

Based on a real ECG, matches up with Apple's grid too :)

Gimmick.

People will open it once, maybe. 99.9% of people will put it in their Junk folder.

Yeah all this health stuff is so gimmicky. That's why nobody buys fitbits and fuelbands or uses apps like Nike+. God how could Tim Cook and Apple executives be so clueless.

Fitbit, Nike, Garmin, Jawbone, Under Armour, Polar and LifeTrak are, off the top of my head, just some of the companies making hardware fitness trackers.

Then you've got Pebble, Samsung and Sony creating smart watches.

Throw in the apps (MyFitnessPal, Moves and others) and it's clear to anyone who actually looks that this is a huge and growing market.

None of the hardware and none of the apps have got it completely right so far.

If Apple gets involved in this space - either hardware or software (or both) - I suspect there will be a huge group of people who are willing to spend money to use it - the money being spent on the existing products and apps proves there's an audience.

And yet, despite knowing nothing about it (or whether it even exists) people in this thread have decided that it's junk and no one will use it. Mental.

I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with the iWatch when it is first released, people are building themselves up for an all singing all dancing watch that can do so many things. In reality I think it will be very similar to existing sport bands like Nike FuelBand and Jawbone with a basic screen, especially its first version anyway.

If you need an app to tackle your weight problem then it's clear that you have bigger issues at hand.

Really? Your current excuse for being unhealthy and overweight is "well, there isn't an app for it yet"?

I'm not the person these quotes were directed at, but I am someone who has recently decided to do something about a long term weight problem (which is completely due to me overeating and not exercising) I can say categorically that having apps which make it easy keep a log of dietary intake and exercise information are incredibly useful.

None of this is new, people have been keeping food diaries and such for years - it's just easier to do it on a device you always have with you.

If someone has been on a reduced calorie intake for a while, it becomes repetitive and it's easy to lose motivation. Seeing a graph showing weight loss can help re-motivate.

Seeing suggestions from other people on alternative foods based on what I like can help break boredom. Having this kind of app based support system keeps many (including me) on track.

The idea of adding more functionality and health tracking into that mix is incredibly exciting for me. I'm sure it is to many others as well.

It's easy to mock, but instead why not try to understand the point someone is making. The poster did not use the lack of app as an excuse. He / She simply said it would help.

That could be interesting since I was thinking of buying a fuelband from Nike but now I first wait what Apple will bring. I'm not interested in a watch, I'm not wearing watches for decades and I consider a watch something from the 80's, very outdated with the exemption for people who actually do need a watch, working in the open where there is no clock like my brother who;s archeologist and did much fieldwork in Syria (yes before the war)

Yes, I agree, but that's hardly revolutionary. If you got yourself an iPhone which you'll cary around with you most of the time anyway I would suggest to buy yourself an extra battery and protecting case (normally about $14,- (that's just €10,26 down here) and download Runkeeper app for free. I walk 5 times a week about 2 hours straight for each walk with some exercises in the park here in Amsterdam the Netherlands and I see lot's of people running with their iPhones attached. Most apps, like runkeeper, gives you the exact time of your walk or (bicycle) runs and how much calories you've burned. Hack, you have tons of free apps which helps you with information on how much calories you've been eating today. It's hardly any hazzle and it's already there...

The only (!!) "handy" thing Apple can come up with is that a "watch or band" could be considerably lighter in weight then an iPhone and IF it doesn't requires an iPhone to fully function then this is nice, especially when your iPhone battery will not be consumed then. The battery-life of an iPhone 5 is truly very very bad.

But... if you've an extra battery case you're all set to go, already, without an iWatch to start loosing some weight.

None of this is new, people have been keeping food diaries and such for years - it's just easier to do it on a device you always have with you.

Yups, that's the only benefit so far I can make of the rumors. But I'm not sure if it's worth few hundred bucks just to have things a bit more easy. For me probably yes since I do make long walks and exercises about 5 times a week. But for anybody else it's would be an overkill and more exact, not needed since they can track their running paths and calories as well, already...

Can...yes.... but it all comes down on one word, one word that Apple can't paten and one word on which Apple can't do nothing about it even if they would come with free iPhone 6 for the masses and beautiful new devices; d i s c i p l i n e

From personal experience I should add that loosing weight is not only about doing exercises, it's all about four things:

1 doing exercises

2 eat healthy (no coca cola, no snack food en no snacks what so ever after 20,00pm

3 discipline !

4 continue doing 1,2,3 your life.

The idea of adding more functionality and health tracking into that mix is incredibly exciting for me. I'm sure it is to many others as well.

Well, yes and no. Yes it's easy to mock about it.... but loosing weight is something that begins within your own brains, not an iWatch. To be honest here, I don't think people will actually loose weight if they thinking of doing sports / exercizes when the iWatch comes out. These people lack motivation because their motivation is not based on wanting loosing weight but on "faith" that with an iWatch they will be encourage to start doing exercises. That's asking for a failure, simple as that. It's like smoking, I tried to stop smoking decades ago stating: on this date and that hour I'll stop smoking. Succes? Ofcourse not. It was a succes the second attempt when I decided to stop smoking NOW no matter what my circumstances where and where going to be in the near future. Same with iWatch, if you want to loose weight then it's about motivation and that my friend should be all without you and you only. An iWatch, any "smart"-watch can't help you with that.

If you are struggling with your weight, go to the gym or go running or something. Looking at your data in some health app on a phone really wont help you about that;)

Wow look at all the professional designers in here moaning about how bad it looks.

If you want to be useful, offer the guy some constructive criticism.

Why bother commenting saying, "Urgh, looks crap."

You are adding nothing.

I'm a health nut and careless. Everything I need to remember is logged in my memory for doing it over and over already.

I'll place it in the Utilties folder and forget about it.

LAME

"Careless" or "could not care less" ? Perhaps you need to remember more such as basic writing

Didn't something similar happen with the rumored 'Apple tablet'. People saw the iPad product launch and went 'Oh, its only a big iPod touch' ...and they still sold an incredible amount.

So maybe, as Apple enthusiasts, we will be disappointed, but the product might still be successful.

Is anyone else confused or intrigued about this line in the Notes section?
Carlos certainly likes doing rounds on Cindy.....

Cindy is a benchmark where you do as many rounds of 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups and 15 squats in 20 minutes as you can.

She's a great workout. :D
