I have not had a single issue of lagging or unresponsiveness on my Iphone 5 using ios 8.

After 24 hours of VERY LIGHT iPhone 5 usage ( I used my iPad 4 most of the time ) I have still 75% battery capacity left. I cannot remember when I had this last time with the previous iOS 7.n.n.

Anybody with battery drain issues considered that we have no new devices here ? Most of the iPhone 5's will be 2 years old already, I guess.

There are some features on iOS 8 that I like, but I also find that some apps lag. When looking through pictures, and deleting it lags. It also lags when changing songs. Facebook takes longer to load, and everything else seems smooth.

What does iOS8 run like on the ip5? I have it downloaded and am just ready to hit install but am hearing some bad reports about slowness.

I was worried how it might affect my iPhone 5, but no problems here what so ever. Speed of how my apps are just like before. Battery life, to no surprise has diminished.

Safari seems to take longer to load as does facebook. Typing sometimes lags a bit. Other than that it seems fine. I did have to adjust location services to get the badge to go away when I'm not actively using an app for location.

Scrolling is buttery smooth, I must say.

I'm finding iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 to be a much smoother experience all round.

Safari especially is quicker, and I'm liking the changes to Messages (like the location-addition) and the "Recent" contacts in the app-switcher screen.

Battery life is as good as, if not better than, 7.x.x

I upgraded my iPhone 5 OTA. Besides the terrible battery (50% in 2 hours), sometimes the keyboard would stay in portrait when I went to landscape...and I would get the black screen with an apple logo (like rebooting) periodically...it wasn't rebooting b/c it would just flash for a few seconds. Who knows what the heck that was. It would also come out of standby by itself. Overall if I used it at all it got hot fast as if some process was going out of control. The battery usage app said it was the home screen/lock screen.

Reminded me of using android all over again. Thankfully I was able to downgrade it back to iOS7 and everything is working fantastic again. Looks like I'll be sitting iOS8 out for a bit.

Installed the GM when it came out on my iPhone 5. Runs perfectly fine, on par or better than iOS 7. Battery life actually improved but I think that was probably due to me setting the phone up as new.

Didn't notice that much of a slowdown on mine.

I remembered that the stock iOS of the iPhone 5 is iOS 6, and as I said iOS 8 is perfect on mine. When I had my 3GS, the stock iOS was iOS 3 and right at iOS 5 it became impossible to use, and don't get me started on iOS 6.

So I'm very satisfied of the speed. :)
Now, about the new features and the childish flat interface, it's another thing.

It's terrible to use the keyboard in safari.

You start to write and then you have to wait for the letters to catch up. Just like ios 7 In iPhone 4.

That lag doesn't exist for me... actually. I have almost no issues. My only issue is that when you close an app from multitasking and quickly go to the home screen the favorites icons float behind the home screen for a second then vanish.

I know what you mean, it happens to me sometimes. But this is definitely a nasty bug, it has nothing to do with the general speed and responsiveness of iOS 8 on your iPhone 5.

My keynote app is super slow to open up. It wasn't like this in iOS 7.

The phone froze for 10 sec and apple logo stayed on for about 20 sec. And went back to normal in the middle of surfing net.

Well after a 1 full battery charge since iOS8 I can tell it's a little less. I normally would get about 7.5 or 8.5 hours with iOS7 but with iOS8 it's been about 6.5 so I plan to do a full restore now and see if that helps.
I think I ended up having to do a full restore with iOS7 as well.

I don't think my 5 is any slower than on iOS7. I am currently charging my big Anker external battery as I'll be in a poor signal area for about 12 hours tomorrow though!

A few apps were glitchy yesterday, dropbox and audible just kept crashing. I had to delete audible and re-download, and so far everything else seems OK.

Far so things have gone well for me, my battery life sucks, but that's because the battery needs to be replaced, so I can only talk about the actual performance of the os. I haven't really faced any lag or slowness other than in one app, but I think it was because it lost connection to the internet (which it needed), so it get stuck for a moment.

So far, so good on my AT&T 5 (work phone) and my wife's Verizon 5 (personal phone)....

I did, however, revert my iPad 2 back to 7.1.2; the lagging was making me nutty...

Supposedly, there's a replacement program for iPhone 5 with poor battery, have you contacted Apple?

I did a clean install and did not restore from backup. Its buttery smooth. Works really well. No stuttering or crashes.

I backed up my photos to an external hard drive and didnt need anything else backed up anything other than contacts. Contacts are restored when signed into the iCould. I re-installed all the apps and set up the email. I am good to go.

everything is good accept for when pressing the home button and bringing up the multitasking it lags switching apps and sometimes will even freeze up

Wow, I just did a full restore and with 15 mins of Usage and 25 mins of Standby it is still on 100%...I can already tell it's better, yesterday it would have been at 95%, hopefully this restore will make battery same or better than iOS7.

I have used the "Battery Doc" app (free in the App Store) to monitor my battery over the past two months. Under iOS 7.1.2, the app reported a max capacity of anywhere between 1100 and 1200 mAh. Under iOS 8, the capacity is listed at a max 1300 mAh now. I'm not sure why, but I have noticed longer battery life over the past 2 full days.

My phone also runs much cooler under iOS 8. When I has 7.1.2, the device would occasionally get hot, but under 8 it barely gets warm.
