iOS 8 will not be like iOS 6 on the iPod Touch 4G. The iPod Touch 4G has 256MB of ram, this was it's most limited factor. Every other iOS 6 device, except the 3Gs, had at least 512MB of ram. With the iPod Touch 5G and iOS 8, every device will have at least 512MB of ram. Theses devices include the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 (maybe), the iPad 3, iPad Mini, and the iPod Touch 5G. iOS 6 ran better on the iPhone 4 than the iPod Touch 4G, mostly because of the extra ram. With iOS 8, the new baseline for low end devices is spread across at least 4 devices. As opposed to iOS 6's two devices.

Actually, the iPad 3 has 1GB of RAM and the iPad 2 has 512...but the iPad 3 feels slower quite a bit.

Do you actually have a Touch 5 ? IOS 7 runs much better on it than on a 4S.

How? They have the exact same specifications except the iPod Touch 5G has a bigger screen, if anything it should run better on the 4s. Do you even have both to compare?

I have both. The 4s runs iOS slightly better than the iPod touch 5th gen.

Thinking about giving up on the classic and getting an iPod touch for the first time since my 1G I bought in 2007.

Looks like we won't be getting a new touch this year though, so it seems like what's out there now is what will be out there for the next year.

So, given that this device will still be for sale next year when iOS8 comes out, do you think iOS8 will run fine on the 5G, or do you think it will be too old hardware-wise by then given the technology in the 5G is already pretty old? Given that the 4G can't run iOS7, that may suggest the 5G won't be able to run iOS8.

I don't think so !
and if it get the ios 8 it will lags and slow the device
I have an iPod touch 5 , I updated it to iOS 7
Now the battery is just a ****
And it tacks a long time to open havey apps and games
Also it lags on 3D apps
I WISH I CAN DOWNGRADE TO IOS 6 :(

Sorry for my English

yes, yes i do!

I garuntee that the iPod touch 5g will run iOS 8.

*engineer off tf2* NOPE the 4s certainly wont get ios 8, so why would apple go ahead and upgrade it? the answer is they wouldnt because they are stupid, but there still is a chance it could, i certainly would not bet or guarentee it!

Following past trends set by the 3Gs and iPhone 4, the iPhone 4S will be getting iOS 8. Its status of still being available for purchase from Apple further shows that it has a very high chance of getting it.

There is no doubt that the iPad 2+, iPad mini+, iPhone 4S+, and iPod touch 5th gen will receive iOS 8.

iOS 7 alerady lags on my iTouch 5

Where I notice the lag is in the Numbers App. I am much more diligent in quitting apps I am not using. I don't us it to listen to music if I am doing anything else with it. That speeds things up. I am concerned that whatever bells and whistles 8 brings the lag will take all the fun out.

They may give the iPod Touch 5 iOS 8, but it won't run as snappy an on a iPhone 4S or 5. If they ran the iPhone 4 into the dirt with iOS 7 they might just give that luxury to the iPod Touch 5. And one note, I agree that the 4S runs faster with iOS 7.1.

Anyone tested the beta on it? How is it working?

I've seen a video on YouTube about iOS 8 on this iPod touch model. It's for the most part fairly smooth, it does show a little slowdown / laggy animations at times though. I'd have to say that's mainly because it's the first beta. I'm sure it'll improve over time.

iOS 8 Beta 3

Anyone tested the beta on it? How is it working?

Well, I was using the Beta 1 and 2 on my 32gb iPod and it was absolutely horrid, no games would run (I tried Minecraft PE and Nova 3 and they would both crash and not work, sometimes they worked but very laggy). I'm using beta 3 right now and it seems a little faster and smoother, some apps still crash (WhatsApp, iFunny, FML, Safari, App Store, Nova 3, ) but it seems a whole of a lot more stable than it was before. Remember, it's still a beta and there are about 5-6 more betas that are going to be released. Hopefully they fix lag issues on iPod, because my iPhone 5 runs like a dream with iOS 8.

Wow thanks for that review of iOS 8 on the ipt5! I hope you continue to keep us all posted on your findings/insights. Are you reporting bug findings to Apple?

Yes, I'm reporting bugs to Apple through the Bug Reporter app. Now that I have used iOS 8 beta 3 for a couple of days, it crashes a lot less, and the battery is a little bit worse than iOS 7.1.2 (I'll do some tests). One thing I cannot do is the "Handoff" feature, where you can Handoff what you were doing on your iPod to a Mac, the reason why I cannot do Handoff is because I don't have a Mac that has Bluetooth 4.0 (It requires Bluetooth 4.0 Low energy). Anyways if you have any questions, want me to test something, or want to see iOS 8 on this device, just ask me. :)

What I'm most curious about is whether you can use the google Voice/Hangouts combo to make voice phone calls over wifi?
