Latest WhatsApp beta version fixes the 'connected / disconnected' bug that you had to quickly switch to the chat screen when opening.

Yeah, WhatsApp developers need to wait until it's released publicly before they can submit iOS8 apps to the store.

No, they don't.

From the changelog of Tweetbot 3 (Version 3.4.1. - released two weeks ago):

-FIxed iOS 8 beta issues
-Fixed Flickr image previews
-Various other bug fixes

And that is the official App Store version, not some Beta. So WhatsApp could release a bug fix. They just don't do it.

No this is not true. WhatsApp can't release iOS 8 API change fixes because Apple don't yet allow submission for iOS 8 apps. So the bug is more than likely to do with a change in the frameworks that WhatsApp can't do anything about until Apple allow Xcode 6 to submit to the App Store.

So Tweetbot is allowed to submit iOS 8 fixes but WhatsApp is not? Unlikely.

If you can fix it without using iOS 8 or new Xcode features, you are allowed to do that.

Tweetbot fixed their app using only APIs from iOS 7. Thats why they were able to submit the update to the app store.

What others are implying (and I don't really believe) is, that in order to fix WhatsApp, the devs NEED to use the iOS 8 APIs / Xcode 6. And those updates can not yet be submitted to the Appstore.

Running last WhatsApp beta on iOS 8 beta 5. Everything working fine except the conversation iCloud backup... a popup asking me to sign to iCloud account... it's only me?

This post exactly. It's possible this is why whatsapp have not released an update. Could be the fix requires Xcode 6, which Apple aren't accepting yet, or maybe they want to bundle it with some other updates that use Xcode 6 and wanted to just do one release, since beta users are only affected by the bug.

Keep in the mind Whatsapp always took FOREVER to update their apps.
On the other hand, Facebook pushes updates quite often.

I'm surprised no one at Fb asked the team to release a fix, considering so many devs (and non-devs) are suffering from this bug. Usability affecting bugs are usually top-priority tickets.

They won't prioritise a fix for this bug until iOS 8 is released, as it doesn't affect mainstream users. Just a small group of developers.

Even thought it may be 1%, that's still a lot of users.
and major apps (incl. Facebook) often fixed bugs on betas using the current Xcode release

Definitely not required and noway to be expected but it does show (especially in the dev community) your commitment on debugging and have the right people working on it. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate it.

eg if your app was using the Fb API, would suck if Fb crashed 100% on the beta and you would have to wait for the public release along with your users.

I'm not saying we now have the right to whine about broken 3rd party apps in betas, (insert 'you signed up for it' argument here). But at this point, it's as if we're looking at a rock to see it grow.

You may disagree, but that's how a lot of companies work and this is the way of betas. The companies that update to fix for betas are the exception, not the rule. FB doesn't always fix bugs in beta anyway, at best, they were 50/50 on it.

I'm having probs with notifications. As usual I upgraded last version but now I receive notifications only if WA is opened in background. I'm the only one?

It's due to the beta. If you clean installed the WA beta, then notifications are spotty. If you have it installed from the app store first (make sure it's up and running, past the start up screen after installation), then import your resigned WA.ipa into iTunes, then sync that to the iPhone, it should update the existing whatsapp to the beta and keep notifications working normally. I did have hit and miss, but the new beta, seemed to work.
