As far as bending phones, you can't make an object tall and wide and very slim without losing some structural integrity; seems fairly obvious to me.

Apparently you haven't read the scientific Consumer Reports stress tests done on a bunch of phones, a Samsung phone was the worst, the iPhone 6 Plus actually did better than the iPhone 6.

And "bendgate" was concocted by a couple of bloggers who started the thing, and everyone else jumped on the bendgate bandwagon.

Yep, the only thing that drove bendgate is ad revenue. I would bet, 100%, if ad revenue didn't exist, bendgate wouldn't have been a thing.

I have updated my iPad mini to iOS 8.2 an got the iPhone 6 plus an both them run like a bag of bones.

I'm stunned at how bad ios8 is functioning , I expect this from android not Apple.

The good old saying 'it just works' about Apple has been blown out the water in the last few weeks.

I have Lags in nearly all aspects of the phone an iPad, crashing, pictures not downloading, problems with wifi, webpages not scrolling properly, webpages reloading when scrolling down, I could go on all day.

Basically just now my iPad is a pain in the ass to use an except for calling my iPhone 6 is the same.

Will this ever be fixed? It's a joke tbh a brand new iPhone 6 is performing so poorly. And a joke a few weeks after ios8 launch is still runs pathetically for so many.

It feels like I'm using low end android devices ,not Apple products

This happens every year. When iOS 5 came out, some friends with the iPhone 4 reported terrible, battery-crushing problems. And everyone lamented that Apple had lost its magic, and the system was the worst ever.

And those problems were real and deeply frustrating. But they're not new. It happens with every iOS update and every new phone.
----------

The writing is on the wall with KitKat. They finally opened their eyes and saw how much more advanced Android had become: smooth, rock solid and unlimited in what you can do. And running on more advanced hardware at half the price..

Which Android phone do you recommend that's more advanced than the iPhone 6 and costs half as much? I'm looking for an iPhone 6 killer that costs $300 off contract, unlocked.

Thanks.

I've run into a few issues, but nothing significant. Most relate to Notification Center, which is an absolutely useless feature anyway with how Apple locks it down.

The thing is, for me at least, the allure of an iPhone has always been a jailbroken OS combined with the aesthetics of the device (though the 6 is disappointingly plasticky). I'll begrudgingly put up with the stock iOS 8 for a few months until a jailbreak is released, but if jailbreaking weren't possible in the first place, I wouldn't even consider buying an iPhone. A jailbroken iPhone is the best device on the market by a wide margin. A jailed iPhone, especially these days, is nothing special against the other high-end devices available.

I can't wait for IntelliscreenX, f.lux, Background Manager, Winterboard, Five Icon Dock, and all the other tweaks that have me using my 5 as often as my 6.

It has gone wrong thousands upon thousands are having problems with it... a brand new iPhone runs poorly an a perfectly fine iPad is now running very poorly also. That's concrete proof it's going wrong
No different than iOS 7 which had a huge adoption rate and people are now raving about. Not much different than even precious initial major version iOS releases. Not much new and Apple and vast majority still continued to do just fine if not better and better.

That is because Steve Jobs is gone. If he is alive he would make sure "it just works" before it releases to the public. IMHO :apple:

iOS 8 is perfectly fine on my iPhone 6.

If you have an original iPad mini (not retina) it's very old hardware. Internally, it's an iPad 2. It's like running Windows 8 on a machine designed for Windows xp, etc. It's not going to be as fast, but it'll still be perfectly usable.

That's an interesting analogy. Windows 7 runs faster than XP on most old machines- but only if you double the amount of RAM in the machine first.

Yep, it kinda sucks that Apple are still selling the old mini, since people are buying hardware which is what - over 3 years old now? I used an iPad 2 on iOS 7 and it wasn't a pleasant experience, so I imagine iOS 8 isn't a great experience on the mini.

Steve had bum releases too. Remember antenna gate? "You're holding it wrong", the iPod HiFi, Mac OS X 10.0 (in fact most versions of Max OS X up to and including 10.6 - Yes Snow Leopard was released with a horrid bug that destroyed user data!). iPhone OS 2, iOS 4. So stop with the sentimentality. It ain't true.

Apple has obviously hit a rough patch with QA. It'll get fixed. The first version of a major release of an operating system has bad bugs. They get squashed with subsequent releases. It happened with all of the software releases above. Stop with the panic.

The writing is on the wall with KitKat. They finally opened their eyes and saw how much more advanced Android had become: smooth, rock solid and unlimited in what you can do. And running on more advanced hardware at half the price. Brand loyalty only goes so far before buyers start to feel really stupid. It's like all the American car buyers that held out for so long before finally throwing in the towel and buying foreign, they were tired of feeling stupid about wasting their money, tired of people laughing at them. Apple knows they need to catch up NOW or they're gonna get creamed. This is the result. They're coding like crazy over there to try to add in all the Android features, everything else be damned. Who knows, maybe it's not too late, maybe they will actually catch up. It's a long road head for all the iOS users now though. And for Apple.

Having more cores and more ram doesn't make it more advanced. The iPhone performs as well or better than almost all quad core processors android phones use. The A8 chip is pretty damn advanced. The issues we are experiencing with ios8 are definately software related.

Also, just to be clear, apple waiting to add features and needing to "catch up" hasn't stopped them from earning the majority of all smartphone profits. They weren't in some dire situation forcing them to rush incomplete work. They just dropped the ball on some of this software, which is disappointing but not overly concerning.

Just want to point out the iPod HiFi was excellent. It was a failure because it was way too expensive for most people to justify buying it. There wasn't anything wrong with it that Apple should have fixed before releasing except the price.

I thought it was the HTC that was the worst, and actually Samsung came out on top.

I've got ios8 on the iPad 2 and it works fine but is noticeably slower than it used to be and Safari has to reload tabs all the time. Still works well enough that I don't see a reason to replace it even with whatever iPads are coming next month.

HTC was the worst as far as bending, Samsung bent the least but broke and was useless. The other phones including the iPhone continued functioning even when bent.

It's an iPad mini bout 18months old.
The original iPad mini still used the A5 chipset that was in the iPad 2. It had a different wireless chipset and I believe it was manufactured using a smaller die process, but it was still an A5. It was still an awesome device (I used one regularly and still have it), but by the time it was released Apple was already up to the A6, which basically doubled the performance of the A5. Benchmarks indicate that the A7 was triple the performance of the A5... and now we're up to the A8. That A5 chip is old stuff.

It really wasn't. The sound quality wasn't anywhere near audiophile quality (despite Apple's claims). The frequency response was 53Hz - 16 KHz. The human ear can hear between 20Hz - 20 KHz for the average person. The speakers were far too close together and faced straight, meaning you got minimal channel separation, giving a compressed soundstage. For something that was supposed to replace your HiFi system, it didn't get anywhere near passing muster.

Well I learned something new today. Thanks.

iPhone is weeks old

iPad Mini is a miniature iPad 2. That hardware is 42 months old, not 18. If iOS 8 isn't running very well on your iPhone 6, you should do a system reset. If it still isn't running well, you should replace it. iOS 8 works very well on everyone else's iPhone 6.

Man, an iPhone 6 running iOS 7.1.2 would absolutely smoke what we're dealing with now. Safari is nearly unusable.

I feel like people are just throwing waffles at each other for no other reason than for entertainment values. Lol

- Is this the worse iOS released? Well, matter of factly it IS the only iOS to have an update pulled and users instructed how to downgrade. Like actually walked through how to downgrade their iOS. Take that for whatever value you want. It is the first to do that. Yes, other iOS had their fair share of issues but truthfully none of them had a downgrade written out for them. Not by any users, but by the big company itself. That's a bit embarrassing no matter how much makeup you put on it. So, iOS will go down as the first major iOS to be released and then advised to downgrade after it's first update.

- The ever so commonly heard "you didn't install it correctly." Pretty slim pickings how to install an iOS. I could see messing up an OS X install. But there are two ways to install any iOS. OTA or via ITunes. No real customization options. Users installed it fine, but different hardware = different issues. No one computer is exactly the same out of the box. Stop using this excuse to validate arguments since it's just plain ridiculous in any way possible.

- "it's working on mine, therefore you're either lying or being overly dramatic about problems". So old, so silly. Just because YOU, yourself are breezing through life without any problems doesn't mean the next person is. Trying to argue about how perfectly the iOS is for you against Joe Schmoe who has bricked their phone is just nutso talk. Like, serious mental capabilities are missing saying things like this. I personally downgraded to 7.1.2 to make my 5c run smoothly, but I have friends who had no issues with the same phone and even my partner had no issues that couldn't be fixed. Yet I also had friends who also had as many issues as I did. Just accept some phones are having issues and some phones do not. It's not that difficult of concept to comprehend unless you're five years old, which some of you truly sound like you are and doing some kindergarten type argument. ;)

- and my favorite of all time "it works fine on 6 and 6+ so you should've gotten one to use iOS 8!" I wanna say this is a joke statement. iOS wasn't released just for one type of phone. It was releases for all. Apple has a history of being able to release something for a specific computer/iPhone. Did they do that with this? No. Therefore the logic should be that while yes, it's more optimized for the 6s it should still be optimized for earlier phones. End of discussion. It really wasn't and may eventually be done but this initial release isn't ideal for any phone. And let's not forget, zomg you seriously expect people to shell out a ton of $$$$ to get an incremental speed update and in this economy? Even Apple doesn't expect users to do this, so why should any one user use that frame of mind?

And let's face it, not everybody comes to these forums or any other support type sites including apples and not everybody will write about what great times they're having. So nobody knows just how many are or are not being affected. It could really only be 50 or, millions and millions. Nobody can call out how widespread problems are, nor their range of problems.
Hell, people thought bendgate was some huge problem (including a friend of mine who actually cancelled his order because of that), until Apple came out and said they'd only received like 8 or 9 reports of it. Then people realized all those photos circulating were pretty much the same ones. Yay for internet wildfires?

On the plus side, my friend did go out and get a 6 after apples report. Of course, just today he somehow managed to shatter the screen. No ideas how! But, maybe we should start in about how flimsy the 6s glass is!!!

*pops another bag of popcorn*

Lol real world test or greater than consumer reports stress tests...I believe real people first

The superior touch feel is gone. The touch feel is why I keep buying iPhone instead of Galaxy. And currently my iPhone 5 feels like a free android phone. It is frustrating. Three thumbs down for iOS 8

I've got iOS 8 installed on my iPhone 5 and it is buggy, though I haven't noticed any slowdowns. I agree that is buggier than any iOS release i can remember, but I'm not too worried about it. It has only been out (to millions of people) for a couple weeks. They'll fix it soon. I think this was just a really big "under the hood" update and it broke stuff, but it was an important release for extensibility, payments, and continuity.

----------

I think you're mostly right, MacAlien, but there is some value to folks saying they had no problems. You get a better sense of how pervasive a problem is when you hear both bad and good experiences.

Yes I remembered Antennagate. I just joined Apple in 2009 so I don't know whats happening before 2009. Sorry but I read Steve Job book (half way done) I assumed he was serious before it released. :apple:
