Has anyone put iOS9 on their iPhone or iPad and installed Kodi using xcode? I know as of xcode7 you no longer have to pay the $99 developer fee to install software to devices so all you need is the source code. I am considering updating and the only jailbreak tool I'd miss is Kodi.

Id also love to know if anyone installed via xcode as well. Id love to try ios9, but I cant lose Kodi. Thats the only app I use under a JB.

I will try to compile a build. Maybe tomorrow. Will let you know. The kodi git has a nice read-me on compiling it.

Thank you. Im, still running 10.8, so I will have to free up diskspace and update the os, just to install xcode 7.

The readme file seems pretty straight forward. Let us know when you get it going, and if you ran into any issues. That were not covered in that readme doc.

Does anyone know if multiple accounts can be used on xcode7, so that the complied file can be ran on mupltiple devices belonging to others? I understand I can put the file on all the compatible devices that use my apple id, but what about others running it too.

i don't have an iphone so i don't know if there is an app called stb emulator. that would be a much better choice than kodi. "if you don't wanna do alot of configuration" to get the channels/content you want.

I habe made the build and adjusted things in Xcode. Had to download a few flash things when running the things in terminal.
I still don't have it on my iPhone because I'm getting an error about signing the app even though I already selected to sign it.
Will see if I'm missing an option later on today. I read there are supposed to be 4 places one signs but I only see 3. Will play w it later today.
Building the kodi Xcode project on terminal is what took the most time. I only used one core on my mba 2015, because I'm using my mba at the same time. It took a good amount of time FYI.

You can set up various accounts in your Xcode preferences and sign them each for their accounts.

IMO that would just be a waste of time since they will still need to have their iOS device plugged to your computer to build it at the end. You can be their unofficial Dev. This is similar to what the Chinese do, they send their profiles to your phone and you then download their build of the app. I guess you can tell them to download Xcode on their Mac and do all the extra setup stuff then send them the project but that would be even more time intensive.

Based on my very short usage of Xcode and a newb w coding since the last time I played w programming stuff was decades ago when I was still in high school.

It opens to black. Will probably try to do it again later.

i wonder what the issue is with the failed open/black screen.
What other flash things and other apps/files are needed besides xcode, and are they all found on apples site?

you need to use terminal first to load the project/dependencies/tools/etc into your mac before using Xcode, while running the terminal commands you will get the prompts and the download page to get them from adobe. Its all in the info text from git for kodi to get it ready for you to load it into Xcode.

Prob. the black issue is something w me selection ios 9 exclusively and causing it to crash. I will play w it later though.

nope sorry, I tried it that same day again and it opened and closed to black again. Haven't played w it and will prob not do it for a while. Th project is about 4GB so I will re-download everything again at that time.

I did compile a universal emulator and works great.

I believe the free certificate expires in 3 months, so you will need to recompile the app you compile to sign it again.

Thank you for the update. Ill give it a shot this weekend.

Would I need to compile this app myself or can a binary be released that I can just install?
afaik yes you do it all yourself, if there was then there would have been lots of tutorials on how to get it installed easily, but Kodi is a beast so its not like the emulators and other simple apps that you can just put the github link into Xcode.

I just compiled this and loaded it on the iphone and i am total noob when it comes to these things. I followed the guide on kodi github. You have to add your apple id to sign the app. You don't have to pay for anything.

Umm will have to check if they updated it to ios9 since they were waiting for a jb to come out to do so. A few weeks ago You had to do a workaround and modify the code using the tutorial from the kodi forums since ios9 breaks universal compatibility of the app.

I don't want to jailbreak the device for security reasons and there is no jailbreak for 9.1. I just wanted to try it. Kodi isn't designed for a phone and drains the battery quickly.
