These issues can be solved anywhere if they were able to solve them for the U.S. In addition, Android succeeded in many cases in solving the same problems, so are you suggesting Apple is less able to solve these than Google is?

This is about priority setting and nothing else. With the much higher prices than we are paying abroad for the same hardware we should at least get the same functionality as in the U.S.

I can see where my original message was ambiguous. Hopefully this one is less so:

Vote. With. Your. Wallet.

And yes, if Apple were as lacking here as folks say they are there, I would be all in with Google and Amazon.

Great news. I'm now really looking forward to 2017 when Apple Maps may finally be almost as good as Google Maps was in 2011...

No, but you are assuming that I bought that iPhone and I bought it today. I bought my 128GB iPhone somewhere in November last year and paid anout 75 euros more than an American in NYC would have done when leaving out all sales or VAT tax.

I have no problem with that at all. However people keep reminding us how difficult the licensing etc situations are when there are ample examples of other companies that managed to make the necessary arrangements. Examples are Spotify, while we are still waiting for iTunes Radio, and Android which had transit notifications years ago.

It's true that for some services it might be much more complicated such as Apple Pay to roll out globally, but I absolutely do not understand why the difference between introduction in the US and other markets such as Netherlands, Denmark etc. in some cases needs to be more than 5 years.
Ok, but that was the argument you were making and today I could just as correctly make the argument "with the much lower prices you're paying on hardware, you shouldn't expect the same functionality"?

Except it depends on what you buy and when and in exactly which country... And what services you're talking about... In short, it /is/ complicated.

Which is pretty much the point. Prices, taxes, laws and cultural taste are different and in constant flux.

You are welcome, of course, to cherry pick data for certain devices and services, compare against single service companies like Spotify or companies with very different business models like Google, and ignore the fact that Apple is a US company and that the US is the largest market in the world to try and make the argument that this is some sort of hegemonic assault on your particular nation.

Maybe you think it would be the best business move for them to spend enormous sums of money to roll out a free service in every corner of the world to compete with well entrenched free services that you already use and like. Apple is a company though and while there are some exceptions, they mostly make decisions to maximize their profit and they've done a pretty good job of that so far. They aren't infallible, they don't always make the right decisions, I don't always like the outcomes, and maybe someday we'll look back and say "if they'd only included Amsterdam in that initial transit roll out they wouldn't have had to lay off so many people", but I'm pretty certain that they don't have an agenda to exploit the Netherlands by charging $50 less for their highest volume product and then denying you transit routing and streams of Ariana Grande.

Apple charges an ENORMOUS premium for their products? Really? Hmmm. Well let's see, most people are able to buy cheap Windows PC's with specs similar or better (on paper) than Apple's computers. That's because those Windows machines are subsidized. Notice how the Surface Pro 3 commands an enormous premium? That's because Microsoft is creating the hardware and the OS, just as Apple does.

Are you serious? Who do you think pays those subsidies for Windows machines?

Apple charges it's premium, because it can...because OSX is (legaly) bound to Apple Hardware...so price is always for the package.

Comparison to Surface is also flawed...as it is so far a niche product which just does not sell in volumes that allow lower prices..

or what bruh

Or I'll continue using Google Maps for a while, duh.

At this point I'm wondering what Apple can do to compete. Google is adding new features every now and then and Apple hasn't added any new features to Maps since iOS 6 back in September 2012. They have only refined the data, and even that is still far from reality.

Oh well, I'm still hoping they have something big ready at WWDC. But the only reason why I would hate Google Maps right now is because the music transmitted in my Bluetooth radio in my car is of low quality when I use it. I suspect Apple's APIs don't let them do any better, because I can't believe it's a bug they've had since 1.0.

Should just leave that guy alone. You can tell he's a total idiot for judging an app by the "looks" and not by the usability or reliability. Some apple fanboys just cannot accept other things.

what's wrong with looks?
it takes all three of those things to make a great app. (or great almost anything)

Yeah, I live in Westchester and the Bee-line system is connected to the Bronx. Hope that counts as a NYC transit system.

a sort of guess.. nyc will be:

MTA*, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, NJ Transit Buses* and Rail, PATH, NICE
NYC Bus Company*, Staten Island Ferry, Bee-Line, CTTransit New Haven, CTTransit Stamford, CTTransit Waterbury, AirTrain, NY Waterway, Roosevelt Island Tram

.. with the asterisked ones having real-time functionality.

Cycling

Apple promotes an active and healthy lifestyle. If this is more than just marketing, they should include cycling in the app.

I know this is complex and requires different options for good results. A fit rider on a racing bike is easily twice as fast as a recreational rider on a dutch bike and preferred routes will be different. Cyclists can use many shortcuts not available to cars etc.

If Apple is not just "good" but "great" this should include routes that combine bike & public transit. Again, this is complex. Here in Berlin you can take your bike with you on the train, subway or Tram, but it is not allowed on a bus.

Have you ever ran in to a software company that pre-installs things & makes a big deal about the functionality of a service that are only good for about 3% of the users?

How about releasing Mapping software with incorrect data? Maps thought where I lived was over 200 miles away when it first launched. It took them nearly a year to correct most UK mapping data!

How about a software company that pushes out an update that kills cellular connectivity and bricks your phone?

What about a tech company that still can't ship products that work flawlessly with wireless hotspots in 2015?

How about a software company that can't ship an e-mail client for a desktop OS that actually works properly?

Talking about Google is kinda off topic, isn't it?

It's embarrassing that they still haven't gotten this **** together. Google has had transit direction for years...

Oh, and you don't think that the fact that they are still "limited in scope" isn't embarrassing? Let alone their car directions?

Are YOU serious? A "niche" product that does not sell well enough to allow lower pricing certainly won't be a success selling at higher prices either.

Anyway your point makes no sense still and my point still stands. Just like Apple Microsoft creates the Surface hardware and OS and that's why they charge a higher price. Not because it's not doing well enough to sell at lower prices. Come on.

Right, the only american products YOU OWN. And if you think American made products are trashy then don't buy them and the point you attempted to make is completely useless. Please do me a favor and don't respond. I can't respect your kind of post.

Yup they are trashy, that's why I don't buy them. If it wasn't a bit true you wouldn't get so ******** about it ;)

No it's not true. But please go on with your petty and unclassy put downs about americans. Oh BTW, you're powerless. You can't annoy me with your ignorance. ;)
