I don't know where you guys are seeing all these bugs. I use my iPad, iPhone, etc very heavily all day for work and school and I literally have not seen a single bug, not even one. I'm sure they're there, but I haven't found one yet.

A lot of people who have no knowledge in software development think iOS 8 is a tiny change, but it's not. It's an enormous change. The very foundation for how apps share data has been changed. You won't see the biggest benefits of iOS 8 immediately, as it will take developers some time to take full advantage of extensibility, continuity, etc.

Also, some apps have issues in iOS 8. That's not Apple's fault. Some websites are poorly written and inefficient, that's also not Apple's fault. Most of the people I know complaining about "bugs" are really talking about problems with third party apps. iOS 8 certainly has bugs, but all newly released OS updates with huge changes will have bugs. Android L will also have bugs. That's life.

If you're having a proble, try a complete fresh install. Some app or action may have caused corruption of the software and only a fresh install will fix it (ie plugging in to iTunes and restoring then setting your device up as a new device without resorting from a backup).

7.1 finally made my iPad Air 128 GB WiFi usable but I had to wait 6 months for it. Now after 6 months, my Air is unusable again. By the time 8.1 comes, the iPhones 6 would be midway in yearly cycle and buggy iOS 9 betas will start.

So enthusiasts will always experience bugs.

The Air is actually terrible on iOS 8.0 It simply reboots and Safari freezes and crashes to home screen. At least on Androids, there is more stability. Should we sell this junk and go the Android way where most decent tablets like Nexus 10 are having better experience. Hate to wait 6 months for 0.1 update and what should we do with our $800 paperweight in the meantime?

I have downgraded to 7.1.2 but even there the Safari crashes and reloads tabs after a quick app switching. :(

Yes I agree it is the biggest update to date. I hope they manage to get it stable over the next couple of versions as it really is pretty terrible at the minute.

I'm getting a lot of crashes to the home screen.

At least the crashes are faster now. Before it was 15 seconds of freezing before te crash and now it's instant. :apple:

Doesn't sound like an iOS 8 bug if it is happening in iOS 7...sounds to me like you need to restore and set up as new without restoring from a backup...which is what I have been advising you to do for a while now. You have some sort of corrupted software issue going on. Could be the website you are going to, if it is inefficient and coded badly.

I'm posting this from a first gen Nexus 7 that's solid as a rock under KitKat - I think it shipped with 4.2 or 4.1 - I don't remember -: it was a buggy mess when I first bought it. The point being that yes, I agree, the tables have turned for the time being. 7.1.2 was great though and I miss it a lot. But I don't miss it enough to waste a day of my life downgrading and restoring. I'll just wait it out until Apple gets their act together again.

Apple intends us to update to newer versions. If it is needed to do a fresh install whenever an update comes up, it destroys the intention of providing incremental delta updates.

Anyway, I always do fresh install and this happens on iPad set up as new. Millions of people are having the same issue. Please don't tell me it is a bad install or whatever.

Safari is broken since iOS 7 and Apple refuses to fix it. Maybe they have reached the threshold or limits of 1 GB RAM and that's the maximum they can optimize the software. That still sucks nevertheless.

Most people are not having issues with safari, you're wrong. You can go to any Google forum and see thousands of people having issues with Chrome on Android. Doesn't mean there's a bug. Same goes for safari. People are just not skillet to attribute it to iOS 8 when they have *any* issues after the update, like yourself.

I highly doubt you actually did a fresh install.

Having an HTC One M8 Google Play edition, I would disagree on iOS 8 being more buggy than Android. I switched from my iPhone 5 to HTC One (original) and then to HTC One M8 GPe. With the phone being the Google version, i.e. no Sense skin or anything else you would expect it to be pretty good, but it is more buggy than previous version. Since I upgraded to 4.4 my phone and some apps have gotten a little more buggy. Every now and then, the volume control disappears, Google maps stops working in the middle of navigation, Google Keyboard won't swype, etc. They're minor annoyances fixed by a reboot, but I did not have these issues before. On the other hand, iOS 8 on my old iPhone 5 has been pretty darn good. On my iPad Mini Retina, I had the WiFi issue until I reset all network settings. And yes, the keyboards are buggy, but this is brand new.

And whoever said iOS 8 was a minor update hasn't been on the interwebs for the last several months.

To me, it's a wash between the two. And wait until Android L comes out. That one is a significant change vs 4.2 to 4.4

I haven't encountered any major bugs with iOS 8... just yet. I've experienced the photo stream issue where the folder isn't there anymore but nothing too major.

Well, clearly you acknowledge that there are bugs even if not everyone comes across them all. And especially more likely with the larger under the hood changes in iOS 8. (Funny enough while I practically haven't come across almost any issues, short of some minor glitches here and there, no more than earlier iOS versions, I just had Safari freeze and lock up in the middle of writing this very reply and it was only after leaving it alone for a few minutes that Safari reloaded the page with what I typed no longer being present.)

The scale of changes "under the covers" in iOS8 may be massive, but that is irrelevant. The OS is clearly not ready for public consumption yet.

The whole mess comes about as a result of economics as usual. In order to keep up the relentless income drive and keep shareholders happy, Apple committed to announcing iPhone6 and iOS8 availability at the last Keynote. It was too soon. It would have looked disastrous if they'd said "iOS8 will be ready in November, or "Spring 2015".

Now we've been given a release of iOS that is causing a large number of people a lot of issues. This will dent Apple's reputation amongst some but the massive amounts of $$$ rolling in will offset that. Meanwhile, we get to beta test their OD for them.

This isn't really much different than what was going on last year with iOS 7 (some might even say that was worse), and Apple and the vast majority of users did just fine after that. Short of something truly horrible being truly widespread (and we aren't even close to anything even resembling that), it will all pretty much be just like it was with iOS 7.

I agree completely. Its a shame though. Microsoft used to get rightly slated for releasing junk like Windows ME or Vista. Apple could be relied upon to exploit their closed ecosystem of producing hardware and software that worked brilliantly together and was of higher quality. Even though that attracted a price premium, the quality gap was sufficient to propel Apple to their current heights.

I think Apple largely still accomplish this - IMO they make easily the best laptops on the market and OS X is still great, and there is really nothing much else like the Mac Pro or even the iMac. Look how long it took for the new Mac Pro to come to market.

iOS however seems to be treated a bit differently, maybe because the iOS/iPhone combo is such a massive earner and is subject to a release cycle that weirdly seems to be driven by Apple Event dates, rather than getting released or updated when it is truly ready for general consumption.

I'd take Quality over a faster release any day.
