I don't care what anyone says. Air Video is the best around for everything.

It has a pc/mac server to stream to you iPad

If you want to keep a Mac / PC around and powered on all the time. (And, for that matter, some smart x86-based NAS'.) Not quite feasible in many cases - for example, if you're travelling or not at home. Or, are you going to keep your Macbook powered up and on the same Wi-Fi network all the time on a plane / train to be able to watch a movie on the iPad? :)

While I agree AirVideo is great, it just isn't as universally usable as a decent, generic multimedia player (Infuse, nPlayer, AVPlayer or, if you don't mind the excess battery usage and (for full HD decoding) have a fast, last-gen CPU, even VLC).

Yep. Videos stored on a hard drive attached to an Airport Extreme can be streamed using the Pro version.

How do you set it up? I tried using "guest" as the username and the password of my router's WiFi network. It didn't work. If you could walk me through it or link me to something, that would be great.

One thing you may want to check is the password. You'll want to use the Disk Sharing password which may be different than the Wi-Fi network password.

We also have a guide available here.

looks great :)

I have a few video players on my iPad, and I think this one is one of the best; with the latest additions streaming, and not needing to use iTunes to upload movies it's even greater.

I tend to load movies before a flight and watch them in the plane. I like it that it has this "light media centre feel" re. the movies. My wife always asks me what "is this movie about", and "how long does it last", and I either have to tell her what it is about or ask her to look at imdb. These two simple questions are now answered from within the app and I like that :)

Not very fond of the server side component that some people here want, if you need a full media centre experience, my view is there is for example Plex. I like Infuse the way it is, but that's my own experience anyway.

Thanks and good work Firecore :)

Thanks for the kind words. So happy to hear you're enjoying it. :)

I really like it too! Loading videos is SO much easier using the web connection from my Mac vs the horrific loading from iTunes. Playback is fast, low battery use and smooth with all my HD videos!

Very impressed!

Any plans on adding streaming from DLNA/UPnP servers? Also, setting the playback speed of the video?

That would make the app perfect for my needs and I could get rid of the VLC for good :).

Is this the player to beat then?

Compared to nPlayer.

Both have advantages and disadvantages. If you want multiformat AirPlay output, your only choice is Infuse. (As long as you don't use your iDevice to act as a proxy between a UPnP source and an AirPlay receiver. As I've explained in the iOS UPnP Streaming bible & roundup – all iOS players compared! here at MR, in section "1.4 Streaming UPnP sources to the Apple TV". A lot of other apps are capable of that.)

nPlayer, on the other hand, excels at a lot of other areas; for example, runtime audio / video DSP's, support for VobSubs in MKV files etc. It, however, can't stream MKV's / MTS files to AirPlay receivers.

All in all, both are excellent apps well worth the money if you do need their special, unique features.

New Infuse user here. Awesome app, best I've used in this category, but needs 2 changes: 1) previous interface was much more pleasing to look at- the white ios7 theme is horrible and 2) some way to normalize volume as numerous videos are too low to be enjoyed. Like I said, apart from the above, I love the app.

Thanks. We're working on a volume boost option for an upcoming version. :)

My Infuse Pro version all of a sudden stopped supporting airplay the "standard" way, it now ask me to mirror all the time, even when im trying to play the exact same files that worked a couple of days ago. Very weird..

Hmm, are you sure these same files worked before?

Infuse supports 2 types of AirPlay. Native and mirroring.

Native AirPlay will support any videos that are h.264...even if it's an MKV.

Mirroring can be used for some of the more obscure formats, like WMV.

Native AirPlay will provide the best performance, and Infuse will always try to use this option first...if possible.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for your reply. I'll have another look and report back.

The first thing to check would be to ensure that SMB is enabled on the iMac. More info on doing this can be found here. http://support.firecore.com/entries/23773290-Streaming-From-Other-Devices

You might also double-check the correct login details are being entered into Infuse correctly.

I have set my own imac, rmbp & network drive without issues but i will give it another try

The upcoming 2.2 version includes a number of improvements to networking, as well as some great new features...so this may help resolve any issues as well.

The result is Infuse 2.2, which is a HUGE update and is packed with goodies including the ability to download files, browse remote shares with artwork and movie info, all-new list view option, volume boost, streaming improvements, and much, much more!

Download from network shares
Filling your device with video goodness is now easier than ever, as in addition to just streaming files, you can download them directly from other devices to play later while you're on the go.

This new view option displays all the pertinent info on the home screen, and playback can be started with just a single tap. Additional options can be accessed by swiping left on a movie's title.

Enjoy!

Can no longer view folders that are in another folder like I could before. All I get is message error occurred . So for example any folder on my desktop I can not access files in that folder since the desktop is a folder technically.

Sorry, this is an issue related to Windows shares that we're looking into.

Hoping to have a fix available ASAP.

Update! 2/10/14 We've tracked down the problem, and will have a quick bug fix update available ASAP.
