Could you strawman any more?
Sorry? I'm strawmaning the argument? I'm not the one who declared this the "most underwhelming release of iOS to date", or the one who doesn't "see what 55% of the poll takers think is satisfying about this release". I'm not the one taking the extreme here. Relax Francis.

In fairness it took you a while to get to the crux of your argument, which I believe is this:
I'm saying that Apple should have began with all of the features that smartphones had and then moved towards being able to slowly replace a laptop's functionality.
Ok fine, if that's the way you feel about it, it would have been wise to cover this off in post #1.

Personally I don't care about full laptop functionality on my iOS device, maybe I could be convinced otherwise but then you'd better come up with some damn simple file management so that there's not pages and pages of nothing but documents on the screen.

I can see if you wanted a tablet laptop out of this release you'd be disappointed, but this update still provides more features and functionality to the iOS devices, some that I wanted, and a few more I'm going to check out (and probably enjoy). So I'm just going to be ok with the update (and at the time of this post, so will the majority of voters here).

Lots of little stuff I like. Such as account-specific mail signatures (work/home), bt closer to the top of the settings menu, SMS sent to your Apple id-associated number goes to iPad/Mac as well as phone, Siri integration in upcoming cars. Shared photo stream is nice and needed in lieu of mobile me photo sharing. iCloud safari tabs are awesome. DND mode, with custom settings for who can still get through, is going to make my phone much more useful.

Yes, the update could have had more - one great option would have been to let Siri control settings. Widgets, meh, I don't care, but woulda been nice to shut people up, if nothing else.

But here's the thing. iOS is mature now. It's basically a complete mobile OS. There will always be more to add, but we aren't going to see massive updates like iOS 3 or 4 anymore because they aren't needed. Those updates came at a time when the OS was immature and had gaping holes. Not the case anymore, and that's a good thing. Now it's tweaking and polishing.

Could iOS be better? Probably. Is this an improvement on the old iOS? Yes. Is it 'worthy' of a new full version name? To be honest, I could care less, and only after experimenting with iOS6 would I ever offer an opinion on that.

I actually like these off topic conversations. If Raid does care a little about the improvements to iOS, then he's just saying that he could care even less. If he has no care for the improvements to iOS, then he should have used I couldn't care less.

This is not the final product. I'm sure there will be plenty of new features and changes made before the GM release in the fall. Apple always does that. I for one don't care much about the look of the OS as much as I care about all the new apps and functionality they announced today. That alone is pretty mind blowing!

I suspect that iOS 6 is feature frozen and the beta testing is in fact, beta testin and not feature additions.

Anyone who thinks it's a joke probably has not used it. The best features are the changes that they made and did not talk about at the Keynote. The groundwork is there for some pretty amazing UI changes, and once they get feedback and change a few things, this will be a pretty awesome OS. I know many of you just watched the video and judged it, but once you get to play with it you'll see what I mean.

Yes and since I commented on it I do have a little 'care' (in this case meaning concern) over the issue. However it's not really worth much time or effort to debate... In fact I'm 'caring' less about this particular topic right now so I'll stop here.

I'm digging the turn by turn, and checking sports scores using Siri is convenient (but can it tell you the current score of a game in progress?), but what I really wanted to see was hands-free Siri. Which I guess we kinda got, but you know, we have to shell out at least $25,000 for it.

People really don't understand the impact of Siri and how it relates to mobile search and advertising.

Siri bypasses Google/Bing/Yahoo search for a large percentage of internet search tasks that people use those search services for on their mobile device. Not only that but it also does it without the intent of gathering marking data or serving advertisements to users in exchange for the service.

Siri is probably as big of a "jump" for Apple and the consumer as the App store.

Really don't understand how people cannot grasp just how big Siri really is.

People here ("nerds") like to focus on small niche features that they (the "nerd" crowd) finds valuable while overlooking the big picture.

My opinion of IOS 6 is as follows:

If you have an IPhone 4 stick with IOS 5 and jailbreak the phone as most of the good stuff you won't have access to.

Maps looks ok but I'll miss street view.

I like the additional functionality of the phone app but it's no reason to upgrade.

Passbook..... Why?

Siri upgrade welcome for UK users as it's not much use at the moment

Mail upgrade was needed

FaceTime over cellular really don't care

Safari nice but not really a reason upgrade

Shared photo streams nice but not bothered really.

I'm due an upgrade for my Phone so Apple better come up with something good with the iPhone 5 otherwise I may just stick to my iPhone 4 and iOS 5 or even dare I say it get an HTC one or a galaxy s3

It never fails to amaze me what a bunch of self righteous spoiled fan boys some of you are. Why dont YOU go out and create a phone and YOU come out with this stuff then?!

OP was even complaining about MAPS. This was easily the biggest lacking feature iOS had for years and we finally have it now. Thats a GOOD thing.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Apple wasn't going to make a huge upgrade. All we have been hearing about were rumors about the next iphone, and macs. Not much about iOS 6. If there was a huge upgrade to iOS there would have been alot more rumors. The big upgrade will be the iPhone 5.

Seriously, do you actually think apple is going to make silly things like widgets? They made it pretty obvious they werent in iOS5 when they implemented it into the notification center. That was their way of saying "take it or leave it". People expecting huge upgrades to the OS need to give it a rest. Plus there is a pretty simple concept that companies tend to use. Its called "not making huge improvements all at once". Do you want the iphone to last years to come? Of course you do. So dont expect huge upgrades to the OS or even the phone every year. You have to pace yourself with everything, other wise you'll run out of breath.

People need to learn to be grateful. You know how f$%&ing spoiled we are today? Be happy with the great things that Apple does give to us.

grow up

That's definitely a possibility. I mean look at the attention to detail in the Settings.app and new background + new Bookmark Folders icons in Safari. It definitely feels polished and pretty solid.
However, with the release of the new iPhone being seen as a major one, I have a feeling we'll see some new things revealed (NFC, etc.) before the GM.

It's alright for people to have their opinions. In fact, you kind of describe the type of person Jobs was. He always wanted more out of his employees and was never happy until he had perfection. That's what these "spoiled fan boys" are looking for too. Just let it go.

And oh, when Apple has a market cap of $540 BILLION, yeah, I'd expect R&D to come up with more than what they gave for iOS6 to this point.

It's still boring to me whether they know how to make money or not.
I most certainly agree.

Yet it's important to remember they've got the equivalent of nearly hypnotic powers over the masses. The degree of control Apple exerts over their user base is stunning.

An accomplishment no other company has ever come close to.

What, like the one Google Chrome has had for years?

No, Safari's is a UNIFIED bar that unites the people of the address bar and the people of the search bar. Google Chrome has always had one bar, it never had to unite anyone. That is why this Safari update is better.

I personally am happy with native turn-by-turn navigation and fullscreen safari support in landscape.

If I need other features I get them in the appstore or jailbreak.

OP whining about Apple not coming out with stuff (when there are solutions or other platforms) is about as foolish as whining that Microsoft doesn't come out with features or programs that you can download on the internet :p

A few days later it seems like there are less and less new features on iOS 6.

Photos, Notes, Youtube and Camera need more features. They are too simplistic.
