Consider it..

Well, I would say that you are totally ignoring he major updates that's make their way in to iOS with iOS 6. So far, I have updated my every device to latest beta build, even gotten the access over the leaked version of iOS 6. I would say iOS 6 is quiet good firmware version, and most importantly it comes with the long battery draining issue fix. I have been enjoying the firmware, and normally very happy to see my devices in very good performance. :)

Seriously, that was pretty lackluster.

I know there's another poll already but it's terribly constructed. This one is simple.

Lets summarize the 10 big features of iOS6 shall we?

From this page: http://www.apple.com/ios/ios6/

1) Maps: Ok, that's big enough. Whole new interface. Whole new backend. Yep.
2) Siri tells you sports and movie stuff: Yeah sorry, that's a cloud feature.
3) Facebook: Social Networking garbage that should have been paired with Twitter last year. Doesn't even deserve a spot of its own.
4) Shared photo streams: An x.1 addition at best. All they did was make photo stream social. An enhancement, not a feature of its own.
5) Passbook: An app that I could have downloaded from the app store like "Find my Friends". Most people won't use this. They trust the native app more than a consolidated solution.
6) Facetime over Cellular: Something that should have always been there when Facetime came out. No reason to delay except to ration out the features.
7) Phone replies: Should have been there since iOS1. A complete joke. Typical Apple nonsense rationing of features.
8) Mail enhancements: Stuff that should have been there in iOS3. OMG APPLE THANKS FOR LETTING ME ATTACH STUFF IN THE MAIL APP. Complete crap, typical Apple rationing of features.
9) Safari enhancements: Typical stuff that should have been in iOS5 with iCloud. More feature rationing.
10) Accessibility: Apple JUST realized that kids and sick kids can use devices you manipulate with your fingers and parents might want some fine grained control? This should have been around since iOS3 as a minor feature that every parent can use. Typical Apple trying to showcase a feature because they want to portray how they REALLY care about children.

Anyway, yeah, iOS6 is a joke. I'm done with this nonsense for good.

when an OS gets to version 6 there isn't much to add to make it revolutionary. same as the 1990's where MS started to integrate features you used to have to buy a utility for. people want the base product to come with stuff you used to get in an app

facebook integration is a must these days

you can't just write a few lines of code to do something. it take months to add some features and hiring more people isn't the answer. look at Vista. there were dev blogs about it where people said that there were so many people working on it that any change to code to weeks to appear in a newer build

Your opinion is fair enough - I just wonder why iOS6 interests you at all if you have outgrown iOS, particularly since iOS6 seems mundane to you. Just curious...
I've been an iOS jailbreak user for years now, and I bought an Android phone last week to try it out before the iPhone 5 comes out, just out of curiosity. All the Android threads in the iPhone forum got me to spend some extra cash on it. I expected to have issues with Android but Android 4.0.4 custom roms have been great so far and does everything I want without jailbreaking. Nearly every Android shortcoming has been addressed with ICS and I have way more control over my phone than with Apple and I couldn't be happier.

Looking at the iOS6 reveal on Monday just made me think it's time to stop using Apple's products because really, there's no use in being an Apple customer if they only do what they want to do and not what powerusers and tinkerers like me want to do. Believe me, I enjoyed iOS very much but their pace of development has worn me down. Android's Open Source community is where people like me should be.

Good for you. Take care. Go find some Android forums. We'll see you in September. :roll eyes:

Edit: I just looked at all the threads you've started on MR and it sounds to me like you should've gone with Android a LOOOONG time ago, rather than "agonize" and "suffer" thru all the problems that Apple has from the new iPad being just a big iPod Touch, and the next iPhone not being wide enough, to iOS not being as good as ICS...

I don't think I'll be coming back. Not after this. Not until Apple stops artificially keeping OS standards low.

ive owned 4 iphones by now and i cannot believe the UI is still looking like it did in 2007. the new "additions" are okay but i wish theyd finally tweak the UI a lil. things like quick sms, live weather icons, better lockscreen infos and something like sbsettings should be a given. i hoped i could finally stop jailbreaking, guess not

btw is anyone actually using that annnoying game center? its as useless as Ping. now if it would actually keep your game scores in the cloud and on all ur devices, Now THAT would be somethin

those new siri commands besides opening an app are just as useless unless u want to show off. the last thing on my mind is asking siri about movies. ill stick to imdb for that ^^

Ok ;) I hope you stick to your guns. I'll still be on the lookout for you. Have fun in the android forums!

I don't think we've seen a significant upgrade from iOS5, but It's certainly a worth while upgrade, especially since it'll be free.. I've been using the iOS6 Beta for a bit, and the performance issues I had on iOS5 seems to be resolved, can't say for certain just yet, but It does feel snappier on my iPod Touch 4G..

Also I really like the User Interface updates.. I am a bit disappointed that there is no Siri though.. I was hoping we'd see it on all supported devices, but it seems exclusive to iPad 3 & iPhone..

I mean that I'm not buying another iOS device as long as Apple continues its hardware and software shortcomings. iOS has some core strong points that make it a perfect choice for some people, but certain people like myself outgrow it after a while.

I do agree with you to a point, but for the masses iOS does what most people use smartphones for. I myself thought about getting a phone with ICS when my 4S contract is up, but for the things I use it for most, the iPhone is more than capable. I am one to welcome all of the iOS and Mountain Lion integration. Being able to do a lot of things seamlessly between my MacBook Air, Pro, and my iPhone is something I probably won't give up.

Honestly if Apple released the new iOS with a feature that printed money...someone would say its the wrong currency or denomination
If it turned into a private jet at the push of a button, it would have the wrong seating arrangement or be too small.

If you're not satisfied with iOS then go to Android. It's really a simple solution, why bitch about it? Haters gonna hate I guess.

I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't release major OS versions for somebody to just be "OK" with them.

This was a disappointment. Really. It's ok to admit it, guys.

Really it sounds like you are trying to convince yourself. Another poster that expects everything that Apple does to blow them away. Right like when did the last release of Droid blow anyone way? Windows Phone?

Some of you people really have nothing to freaking do.

Because buying a 1K+ phone is so simple and easy...

you don't tell anybody where to go because they are not licking Apple's nut-sack like you are... get real

He has already moved on to Android, and this is an Apple forum....no one here gives a rats @$$ what he thinks about the phone he doesn't use.....

As for me, I give Apple direct feedback every week. I develop mobile apps for multiple platforms and am very critical when significant features are lacking. You know nothing about me at all.

I dont understand how its bad, when the majority of the new features included with IOS6 will be used everyday.... one of the smallest features "do not disturb" is my personal fav and the redesign Music app.....

That feature alone will keep me from Jailbreaking since the only reason I did was to add iBlacklist. No need for it now.

People keep on saying "If you love Android, why the hell are you here?"

People continue to fail to realize that most of us who are so vocal about/against Apple were once die-hard Apple fans.

I started with an iPhone and I've had a couple of different iphones. In the beginning, I too believed that Apple could do no wrong.

No cut/paste, no messaging, etc. It's okay because the iPhone is awesome and so is Apple. Everything is forgiven.

But after a while, people started to become sick and tired of the limitations/restrictions and the "glass ceiling" that Apple put above them. People started to realize that there were other cellphone companies out there giving customers what they wanted and giving us new improvements every year instead of incremental upgrades.

Sometimes I feel like the Apple community is like North Korea. Their dear leader can do no wrong and the people blindly adore their leader.

But as time goes by, you have people waking up and saying "WTF is going on? I need to get out of this country."

So that's where many of us ended up.

I feel like Apple has lost their industry leading ways and has instead become a company that is playing catch up. These other cell phone companies are giving us huge upgrades every single year while Apple is giving their customers the bare minimum every year.

Apple has stopped innovating and instead resorted to litigating. They know their faithful flock will continue to buy their products without any question. Seriously, how desperate and innovation-less has Apple become to try and block the sales of Samsung and HTC.

Although I am an Android owner, I still browse these forums because I am also an Apple owner as well.

I think most of us here who are so vocal against Apple are also wishing for the company to come back to it's roots and lead the industry again with their innovation.

And then, I'll be back to buy the next iPhone.

No one is making money with Android. They're just blowing hardware out the door.

Google delivers a new OS yet less than 10% are using it 8 months later. Apple's got nothing to fear. The whole "Android is open" crap hasn't led to the dominance that was predicted.

In the end the consumer is deciding and a whole bunch are deciding on going with Apple.

While Geeks can rant an rave on a forum the fact is for every Geek there are at leas 20 consumer that just want a phone that works reliably without having to jump through hoops.

Apple's clearly out in the lead in this context.

I expected to have issues with Android but Android 4.0.4 custom roms have been great so far and does everything I want without jailbreaking.

If you're running a custom ROM, then you're running the Android equivalent of Jailbreaking. I've heard plenty of people claim that rooting is harder on Android than jailbreaking is on iOS, although I can't say for sure myself since I've never owned an Android phone (seriously considered it though). However, what I can say, is that when the jailbreak eventually comes, it's super easy to do.

It feels like Apple has gotten complacent - or maybe that heir complacency has caught up with them. Releases of iOS have always played catch up, but the excuse has always been that their features were more "elegent" or more well-implemented. iOS works well most of the time, and for the vast majority of people using its devices, it does what it "needs" to do. But for a company that was known for innovating, they seem awfully comfortable staying where they are
People don't know what they want until we give it to them...(something like that) If the majority of people are complacent with what we have, then true innovation will suffer. Apple (and other mobile companies too) needs to look at what mobile is and what it should be instead of trying to one up each other or play "catchup" with gimmicks. Sorry so long

Apple doesn't need to one up people. They do a pretty good job avoiding the trends.

Chances are if Geeks and the Tech press are blathering on about something it's likely something to avoid.

Remember this

"Apple needs to make a Netbook"
"Apple should make a game console"

LOL

Apple is unbeatable right now because they and imagine things "their way" and have the financial abilities to see their projects through.

I found it disappointing in that I would have liked to see a major overhaul of it's look. iOS 6 looks just like an upscaled version of it's original incarnation with custom backgrounds. Countless useful features have been added, but as for aesthetic- something Apple prides itself in- it's become a bit stale.

Also, I was severely disappointed by a lack of an improved notification center. I shouldn't have to jailbreak my phone to quickly access Wi-Fi, 3G, and Bluetooth settings in the drop-down notification center. I'll stick with jailbroken iOS 5 and skip the beta ;)

So true. iOS6 was a big wake up call to people.

other cellphone companies out there giving customers what they wanted and giving us new improvements every year instead of incremental upgrades.

Your arguments are pretty sound even if I don't agree but that one is way off. Apart from iPhones name me a single phone that has had more than 1 major update. Apple might do some things wrong but my 3G had something like 3 major OS updates and 15+ minor ones that is what I call long term support.

My friends Samsung was patched once about 6 months after the Google update was out then that was it not even a minor fix.

The one thing Apple do very well is updating older devices with new features and incremental upgrades. The one thing Android does very poorly is new improvements and incremental upgrades. If you want an upgrade to Android you need to buy a new phone. With my iPhone I buy a new phone every few years not every time I want a software update :)

The rest of your blinkered view comments do have a basis in truth although I disagree with the proportions and the depth of the issues. I don't think Apple are prefect but after looking at both sides of the fence I am staying mostly on the Apple side when it comes to Hardware/Software.
