Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple's policy is now to slow iOS development even more since Jobs isn't around to push them anymore.
Jobs is dead, it's time to move on.

Apple has always been known to employ the technique of milking the consumers, while saving improvements that could be implemented now, for a future version. There's nothing wrong with this because Apple knows whatever they do will be revered by their worshippers. And that's Apples true genius.

I can't be sure it's a disappointment but it sure seems like a boring update.

It's no disappointment as I see it. Nor is it exciting. It's just Apple.

They've got the formula for monetary pay back all sorted out, and use it to their advantage. That's quite an accomplishment.

I'm actually excited for this update because I will use every feature they mentioned. But it is disappnting that almost everything is just addressing features that came out half baked a generation (or three) ago.

-Siri functionality
-Facebook integration
- Wifi FaceTime
- Phone replies
- Passbook

Which one of these 200 new features really couldn't be put into a .x update? And as exciting as new Maps may be, imagine if Google didn't block their app from getting a proper iOS update then would anyone really be begging for new Maps apps?

Again, I am excited for this but it's very easy to see why most people won't be because aesthetically we've still got the same aging interface.

I think it's still amazing that you have to go into settings to turn wi-fi on and off. It's the little things like that that Android does better.

Honestly, I like iOS a great deal and am fine with 5 being a bigger update than 6. However I still think they could have improved some things and they didn't.

-I never turn wifi, or Bluetooth off
-no desire for widgets
-hate live tiles on my windows 8 beta

-like new email improvements
-like Facebook integration
-like photostream enhancements
-like iMessage improvements
-love FaceTime over cellular
-love turn by turn

Am I allowed to be excited about this release, or do I have to have a negative opinion to post here?

iOS6 is a BS release, it seems Apple is afraid to give the 5 year old OS a real overhaul. Yes it has features added, but facebook integration? iMaps? Do not disturb? What about a graphical overhaul? How many times faster is the GPU in the 4S compared with the original, yet we are left with essentially the same interface after 5 years. Is it any wonder that people are wooed by the Galaxy S3? Expected more from Apple, simply bolting on little pieces doesn't impress.

I haven't posted on here forever, but felt compelled to do so after watching today's keynote. I have had every iphone (except the 3g) since it's debut and yes iO6 is disappointing and underwhelming. There is zero innovation here, nothing that isn't on android or wp7. Yes iOS is easy to use and works generally well for what it is, but it is basically the same OS from 2007. Enough with the brand loyalty call it like it is. I have no loyalty to any company if something is better I'll try it. I've had a Samsung gs3 for a week and I can say it's a breath of fresh air, and has a few innovative features. I hope iOS7 can do better...

Can you give me an example of why the Samsung is a "breath of fresh air"?

Every time I try to go android for a few weeks I come running back to ioS.

i wasn't disappointed i didn't have any expectations for iOS 6 at all. Its just apple being apple.

Same old dusty UI as in the original 2007 iPhone? Yes it's underwhelming.

You know, this is exactly what I was thinking. With the exception of folders (iOS5), the homescreen really hasn't changed much. Even with a 4" iPhone all but guaranteed for the end of the year, me, personally, I don't think I'll be rejoining iOS right away (I just sold my 4S for the Evo LTE).

I think apps are built better for iOS, but the general feel of the OS to me feels a little dated. While Android at times can seem very busy (if you let get that way), iOS just doesn't have that personalization that Android has. I think the whole thing really needs a revamp. I'd settle for active icons on the homescreen that changed based on the status of the app if Apple didn't want to give us full blown widgets. Somethings gotta give sooner or later. Then again, OS X looks pretty similar to the last few releases as well but I'm still posting this from my MBP right now.

Ok, I previously had three different android devices ( Droid Inc, Htc My Touch4g, Nexus s) and did the same thing as you did, got tired of the crashing ect and went back to iphone. Granted I stayed with each phone longer than a few weeks except the the nexus s, but those were all gingerbread phones and had many weaknesses. When I say a breath of fresh air I mean in customization, simple choices like changing the keyboard or being able to use a different browser to open things to name a few. ICS is very very good and dare I say touchwiz is also very good and will be staying on the phone for me. I bought a 4s a few months ago because my 4 was getting quite slow, and then tried the SG3 I can finally say that an android device is as smooth and fast or a bit faster than an iphone.

Also all the little gimmicks like smart stay and the various sensor things are kinda cool.

Yeah, it's underwhelming. I don't see any reason to update my iPhone 4, when the majority of these features are available in Cydia (attach photos directly from Mail, don't close out of App Store when downloading etc.). Apple still hasn't addressed its notification issue (status bar icons would be a start) or its lock screen (so much wasted real estate).

Galaxy S3 will be the Phone to use over the summer........................

I have to agree with this. I love my 4S. And new maps are long past due. But Ill roll the S3 for LTE for a while and see what the next iPhone looks like. The same old interface is a dealbreaker for me. And if I have to look at one more leather wrapped app Im going to puke. But I will take a heaping helping of the Macbook Pro pie please.

Ok, a logical answer. I thank you for that. When I tried Android, I didn't care about alternate keyboards, and found mobile safari to be far superior to any android browser.

As for customization, I can see that might be important to some, but I certainly would never sacrifice OS stability and speed, ecosystem, and app availability so my wallpaper can ripple like water.

I went with Android last week to try it before iPhone 5 comes out. Running ICS as I type this. No more iPhone for me. iOS6 pretty much confirmed for me that Apple will never have any incentive to innovate. In fact, I'd say this upgrade is more of an insult and a CLOUD upgrade masquerading as an OS upgrade.

See you guys on Rootzwiki.

Apple has no reason to innovate as long as it has its Apple lemmings.

Because no one but geeks are complaining about the UI. The only people that have had the same UI for 5 years were the geeks that bought the first gen phone.

NEWSFLASH folks. Some people are just now getting acquainted to the iPhone and everything is new to them.

I was hoping for widgets and better features in the mail app. Like how about when deleting emails having the ability to select all messages rather than having to select them by one. That's a real pain. Honestly I didn't see anything mind blowing. Turn by turn navigation. Yeah I'm glad th iPhone is getting it, but geez I has that in my crappy Android phone 2 years ago. And Facebook integration too is something thy could have had in iOS years ago. All in all a bit meh for me.
