They are the same RESOLUTION, yes. The Display is not the one inside of an ipad 1, it shares size and resolution and thats where it ends. they are not the same display, sorry.

You sir, are correct. I checked the Giz findings against my iPad and an iPad 2 at a local store and the viewing angle was indeed better on the 2. I set both to the same brightness setting - 50% and 100%. The difference was noticeable both times, moreso at 100%.

Does anyone else notice better anti-aliasing on the iPad 2? After looking at mine it seems like the pages in iBooks render better as well as icons even on the homescreen having smoother edges. I'm not saying it is a denser screen in terms of pixels, just the fact that the edges have been better smoothed out thanks to this new graphics card.

I see all of these things, too. Just got an iPad 2 and have been an iPad 1 owner since launch last year, fwiw, so I know this display pretty well.

I'd like to see some macro shots of the display at a high magnification. It almost seem like there is less black between the individual rows of pixels and that is accounting for the increased clarity of the display.

I just picked up the ipad 1 this weekend and already have the iphone 4. Is the ipad 2's screen pixely looking? It is the same resolution. If so, I'm glad I got a deep discount on an ipad 1 and await an ipad with retina display.

You and me are in the same boat. Bought a 16gb wifi iPad 1 Saturday for $399. The deciding factor was the screen. This will hold me just fine until iPad 3 or iPad 4, whichever one gets a retina display. When that happens, I truly will agree with Mr. Jobs that he has created something magical. I really can't wait for that.

I know they are the same screen but there is a difference. I compared iBooks, Video, and pictures between my iPad 1 and the iPad 2 at the Apple Store. The iPad 2 screen was much sharper with both at 100%.

The screens ARE different...please read on!

I got my iPad 2 today and there IS a difference between the iPad 1 and 2's "whiteness levels", so to speak. I've seen this before. The iPad 1, my particular model anyway, has an incredibly sharp and super bright white screen.

Conversely, I want to say that the iPad 2's white screen has slight "yellowish" undertones, doesn't it? I'm doing apples-to-apples comparisons, e.g. the Settings --> WiFi page, which is consists of lots of white background. The iPad 2 does not appear as super crisp as the iPad 1. They're definitely not identical. Are they calibrated differently maybe? I'm not even saying it's bad. There may be a lot of people who prefer the iPad 2's "warmer" white to the iPad 1's.

I've seen this before with BlackBerry's and it's driving me crazy. The iPad 2 has a "warmer" white "tone" to it, maybe that's a better way to describe it.

What do you guys think?
