Funnily enough I watched the video and noticed how the web browser will STILL SLOW. :(

Still scrolled into checkerboard and he said the WiFi there was really fast.

Bit disappointed in that. I want to see how fast the Xoom browser is in comparison on a heavy web site such as engadget.

If you can scroll into checkerboard. It's slow. End of.

To be fair, he was loading Engadget, which is getting slammed. It's not particularly fast even on my desktop, and I'm using Chrome on an i7.

There's a reason for that: Honeycomb is an actual tablet OS, while iOS (right now) is not.

That's true. And I actually want HComb to succeed. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels the iOS is getting too stale and outdated. But, as for now, I'm still getting more work done with the iPad because of the robust app eco-system of the App Store. I do hope Android will get there and find a way to attract more devs (not just free simple apps) and not the opposite because they're not earning much.

I've always believed with the Galaxy Tab that if you're going to be paying for data anyway, subsidized is the way to go; however, not everyone wants a contract with a tablet.
You're right, but my point was everyone seems to be latching onto an $800 price point for Xoom which is not the only price point for the device.

well, honeycomb actually seems to trump iOS. feel free to list the compairisons, software wise, side-by-side. such as....

notification system?
multi tasking system?
web experience/setup?
storage system?
desktop setups?
docks and status bar setups?
photo mangement setup?

The bottom line is that I can do more with the iPad than I could ever do with the Xoom. Who needs a better multitasking system when there aren't that many tasks available to do?

I am going to guess that iOS will receive a better notifications and multitasking system before Android gets close to the number of ambitious, quality tablet applications.

At the rate Android is going many of the iOS writers are embracing more and more. The truth always comes out in the end.:)

Yeah, Google really needs to pull in more quality devs. They're revamping some of the payment stuff in the market (carrier billing, etc) and trying to draw in some of the devs that were pissed off about Apple's 30% subscription fee. Hopefully it pays off and app quality improves.

Comparing a tablet that costs 800 dollars to get you started versus iPad that cost 499 dollars to start...

OP says he wants to do what is out now. Well, let's do it then.

800 Vs 499 dollars.

Enjoy

5 megapixel camera on rear ( will not replace my DSLR or digital camera)
100 apps
Paying 300 dollars more.

I will never ever pay 800 dollars for a tablet. I paid 800 for a MBA.

$600 32GB WiFi Xoom vs $600 32GB WiFi iPad 2, bro. You're not comparing apples to apples.

Compare them properly and you will see that your price difference is bogus.

I think the inboard storage comparison is dumb, I have a iPad 1 with the base 16gb. Storage is not a issue personally, and I will now have nothing but contacts, photos, apps, and the OS on it now that home sharing to iPad is coming in 4.3.

The UI paradigms for iOS don't change between iPad and iPhone, while Honeycomb is completely different from 2.3 or any earlier Android release.

This is not true. The only thing similar from iPad to iPhone is the home screen/lock screen. Everything else is different. Try browsing settings, or mail, or safari, or (i could go on).

I do think that iOS's interface needs to change but to say iPhone iPad interfaces are the same isn't accurate.

Xoom = iPad 2 > iPad 1.

I fixed it for you.

You are a bad "fixer" :) With half the RAM, most likely sub-par GPU performance (not NVIDIA design), sub-par screen and camera resolutions, phone-optimized OS, no 4G how come iPad 2 is equal to XOOM?

lol, what? you're not being serious, right?

i agree with this. Xoom has a higher res, more ram, better camera, more powerfulf gfx, 4G......so how is Xoom = iPad 2??

How do you know the RAM and GPU performance? Beyond numbers, if the iPad feels as fast as the Xoom in all tasks then the specs don't really matter.

The iPad 1's screen is noticeably better quality than than the Xoom's, and the iPad 2's is a little bit better than the 1's. Between the two, I would easily choose a slightly lower res, but noticeably better screen. (Just read Anandtech.com's review)

Camera's on a tablet, beyond video chatting, aren't a necessary feature so that won't weigh heavily on consumer's mind.

For the general public, a tablet OS with a weaker app selection is less attractive than a modified phone OS with a slamming app selection.

4G is still very limited so many people don't care about it when purchasing a device that they will likely upgrade again in a year.

If you mean that Honeycomb is more like a PC running MS Windows then I'd agree. Otherwise, it is kind of silly to suggest that the iPad running iOS isn't a tablet OS.

Besides that, the reason Google needed to come out with Honeycomb is that everyone agreed that the stock Android was a miserable fit for a tablet. The latter hasn't been said about iOS on the iPad.

It's not a real tablet OS. iOS was designed for a phone it's UI has never been redesigned..

Do you get a cookie every time you repeat this nonsense?

iOS was designed for a a device based on multitouch input. It wasn't designed for a phone. The phone is just an application. All you are complaining about is change for the sake of change.

You realize that the iPad actually has roots from before the iPhone, right? The iPhone was an offshoot of the Safari Pad project. iOS is a touch OS, regardless of device size.
