iPad 10.5 Yellow tint/uneven brightness

I recently bought an iPad Pro 10.5 256gb WIFI space grey but it had the white static on booting up the device. I then had it exchanged and I still have it. Is it possible that it's a software issue? For those running iOS 11 have you seen it happen at all? Also another issue I've encountered is when the dark keyboard is used in third party such as Netflix the keyboard flickers when pressing the shift key. Has anyone else experienced this? It happened on both my first iPad Pro 10.5 and on my replacement. Last question: I had my iPad Pro exchanged by returning it and then buying a new one. The process was simplified by wiring the money to a gift card so I wasn't charged twice. I just wanted to double check that my unit is a retail unit and not a refurbished/remanufactured one. I did check with them but you never know. My serial number starts with DMPV.

I figured I would post this here as this thread is a good discussion on screen issues with the iPad Pro. I have now my 4th iPad Pro 10.5 (all DM). The first had that odd scratch and I returned it immediately. The second had a very noticeable green stuck pixel. The 3rd and current one have white stuck pixels, easily seen on black screens. I have seen some yellow tinting, but I do not think I am as sensitive to it as stuck pixels. Those, once noticed, are nearly impossible to ignore. I have also found the Home button edge has some poor backlight bleed on all of the previous 3 models (didn't turn on the first one).

Stuck and dead pixels are no go for me. What is even worse, is that the last replacement the Apple rep couldn't see it. He was trying to view it in the bright store. I mainly use my tablet in the dark or areas of low light. Gave me a replacement anyways.

Is there any chance Apple will ban me from buying iPads because I am returning so many that are defective? I am in Canada, not sure if that matters.

Ive started getting this on mine from the last 2 betas. I believe it’s a software issue as I never had this before. I also get it on my 6s now and again.

Are the 2017 12.9 iPad Pro affected too?
I had 2 of the first 12.9, they had a similar issue. My 10.5 had this issue too. I'm wondering if the new 12.9 has it too?

I have this issue too. I also had the issue with my iPhone 7. Luckily, a quick software adjustment fixes it more than ever. Just go to the Accesibility > Display Accomodations > Color Filters, set it to Colour Tint, lower the intensity to the minimum and set the hue to a more blueish tone. There you go.

Back in the day when I got my iPad mini, I originally got a 16gb. The screen was immaculate. I then decided to pony up for the 32gb, so I went in and exchanged it. The replacement had uneven hues and stuff under the screen. So I exchanged it. The replacement for that was very red and everything looked weird on it. So I returned that one and waited a little while. I bought another one and it was more even color wise, but still not great, but also not red, except it also had a few specs under the screen. I threw in the towel and lived with it, although I was never really happy with that screen.

I never knew the screen lottery was a thing until the iPad mini. My subsequent Air 2 was much better, though it had a faint book spline effect on the left side. I didn't mind that very much so I considered that a win.

So, I recently got a 64gb 10.5 from Best Buy the other day and the screen is absolutely perfect. It might be the best screen on a device I've ever had.

I began to wonder if I would be happy with 64gb instead of 256. But I look back at my previous experience and wonder if it would be worth it. I can definitely live with 64gb. The 256 would just be a nice to have. I would be less happy with a worse screen.

I guess it kind of sucks because I would go back and spend the extra 100 if the screens were identical. Ah well. I love this screen.

Yep ! Online orders have to be sent back in mail, stores won't take that !

that's wrong. All Apple stores will gladly refund any orders purchased from Apple online. Just did one myself two days ago.

Today we got a second iPad Pro 10.5 in the family.

So far, so good. No apparent defects. As for the display, it seems perfect. No backlight bleeding, no dead/stuck pixels, no colour/temperature uniformities or dust between the cover glass and the LCD panel. The yellow strip, in the lower side of the LCD panel, however, is still present, but is so barely noticeable that does not warrant an exchange. You have to pay close attention in order to notice it.

Just for your reference, its serial number begins with DMPV, and its production week is 30 (July).

So is this warmish/yellowish tint display thing normal now? Did everyone get used to it? I just got a Ipad Pro 10.5 and the display is definitely more warmer/yellowish compared to my ipad 3 display even with TrueTone turned off.

I compared the Ipad Pro 10.5 display with the Ipad 2017 display and the Ipad 2017 display definitely has a more whiter color compared to the Pro so I guess its something to do with the Pros P3 color gamut?

I am just waiting to see if I get used to it.

I don’t have this issue, but my newly purchased 10.5’ iPad has the smallest speck of dust underneath the screen (fused to the display I guess? It can be seen with a flashlight with the iPad turned off). That makes it look like there’s 1 or 2 stuck pixels. I’m pretty OCD but will just live with it considering how much of a lottery they seem to be these days. I could easily get one worse and I don’t really notice it unless I hold the iPad near my face and look for it.

It's amazing how people are still confusing warm tint VS tint UNIFORMITY. You DO NOT want your screen to have different colors in different places. THAT is a defect.

That's way too late to report lol ! It is a known thing, whenever you contact Apple and tell them about this. This is a standard verbatim that they tell you " Oh really ! We have never come across such an issue from any of our customers" they would deny everything .A lot of people have always reported over the years since this issue has been happening with Apple's LCD Screens.

I went through MANY 10.5” iPad pros until I was completely happy with the screen, it was totally unacceptable to have yellow tint, which was obviously a flaw in the hardware.

Apple Customer Services will never admit to knowing someone else has rang up about it, the only time I ever experienced Apple admitting to something was when the the iPhone 5s phones were released and the bezels were all scuffed and marked brand new out of the box.

Sucks that people worried about tint and still got that spot on the bottom of the screen too

Yes, I have had those bright spots many times. The 10.5 had the most problems I’ve ever had when trying to get a good iPad screen, and that’s saying a lot. I finally gave up and just got my money back. Haven’t tried an iPad in quite some time now. Was sick of all the issues between dead pixels, dust, bright spots, dark spots, spotlighting, streaks, discoloration....

To be fair, Apple Support have been great. No fuss, no fighting to convince them the device is faulty. They’ve even offered to arrange a trip to the nearest Apple Store to examine the brown box replacements so that I leave the Store with a device that has a screen without these tint shifting, bright spot faults. They want me to be satisfied.

I mean, what company does that for you in 2018.
