iPad 11: Two Key Upgrades Will Bring Apple Intelligence to Budget iPad

I still think they just sell the remaining inventory of iPad 10s to Walmart and Best Buy so they can throw them out there for $199 like the iPad 9 is everywhere.

The 9th gen iPad for $199 is still the best deal.

Love to find a new iPad 9 for $199. Where are you all finding that? Links, please!

Best Buy, it's $299. They’ll price match Amazon — but that’s still $249…. Walmart's $299, too.

So, not everywhere at all, but where is it for $199?

Low end stuff will be getting huge RAM upgrades, even the iPhone SE 4 will have 8GB of RAM, which is nice considering Pro iPhones only started getting that with 15 and later. If the Ipad 11 also gets the new better center stage camera that's in the new M4 Macbooks and iMac, then it will be a huge steal IMO, and great for old people, I'm probably gonna buy one for my dad to replace his ipad 6.

The current iPad 10 already has the Center Stage camera, so there's no reason the iPad 11 won't have it. If I remember correctly, the iPad 10 was the first device to get the Center Stage camera.

Center stage is just the generic name for the marketing term. Trust me, the ones that came out this past fall are not the same and it's not really mentioned anywhere for some reason. The old ones in the ipad 10 and Studio Display are not as good in image quality, and they do not shift the axis of your picture to perpendicular like the new ones on the M4 Macbooks and iMac do. For example, if you're looking down at your camera and the ipad is tilted up because it's standing on a desk, your image and eye contact would be looking DOWN. The new ones use the "desk view" software they implemented from continuity camera in the phones to always make your image and eye contact perpendicular so you're almost looking straight at the camera. It's an underrated and understated upgrade that most reviewers and sites didn't mention in their reviews at all

Wow you’re right, the deal isn’t out there right now, it’s got to drop to that price again soon, I know I got it at that price and my nephew and several friends, it was holding there for a while last year.
I know Best Buy had a whole cage full of these when we picked ours up maybe they’re starting to whittle down even though they were selling the 10th generation as well.

Right now they’re selling those models on swappa for about that price but sometimes you can negotiate that with the seller. There might be some deals on eBay as well but if you’re in no hurry I just hold out till the next sale, as soon as the next generation drops that’s gonna cause the floor to dropout on the prices.

The iPad is not "budget" by any means.

I think many of us get trapped into self-affirming the upsell, especially if your self-worth / identity is somehow tied to this brand (as it clearly is for so many).

The price of Samsung entry level tablets has crept up. Yes, they still have tablets lower priced than the iPad 10, but they’re not really comparable. The more comparable Galaxy tablets are near the iPad 10’s price. Lower priced Lenovo and Acer tablets are not on the same playing field. Factor in Android doesn’t give you as many updates as iPads OS and you’re also lower at generally shorter expected service life than iPad OS. Further the iPad is constructed of aluminium alloy as opposed to plastic.

So there is more bang-for-your-buck in an iPad 10 than in the ‘comparable” entry level Android tablet unless you simply prefer using Android or your budget is really constrained.

Probably 16/256 but possibly 16/512. This will only see very light usage and not much local storage. This is for my wife and she currently has about half of her 256 GB drive empty, on her 2017 MacBook Air.
Hi EugW,
Untill now I continued reading and decided to go for M3/13in/16/512.
I was even considering M3 and M4 Pro.
In the end I decided that price difference between current M3 Air and new M4 Air is the descisive factor here. Given the M3 and M2 prices during their introduction, new M4 Air price will be similar to a bit discounted M4 base Pro.
I wish you good luck with your device. Wish you that Air serves your wife long and well.
Bye
EDIT: spelling again

I may wait for the Back-To-School education promotion in June/July to get a further discount on the MacBook Air, whether that is an M3 or M4.

We qualify for education pricing, but even if we didn’t, I’d still buy from the edu store, since they don’t check online orders in Canada (or the US).

i think 450 USD starting price for 128GB sounds very plausible. 400 if still 64GB.
otherwise it would make the current base ipad 10 a terrible terrible deal.

when the 10th launched, the 9th was quite significantly cheaper.
now that they lower the 10th price, the 11th price might replace what the 10th was at launch.

I suspect iPad 11 will be a spec bump only. It will get an updated SOC with enough power and memory to run Apple Intelligence and possibly Side Show. Perhaps, it will get a base storage bump from 64GB to 128GB. If they simply update the SOC, then I would think the price will stay at $349. If update the SOC and increase base storage, the price will increase to $399, or thereabouts. This might be a bit optimistic, but it won’t cost Apple much if they don’t have to retool for a new screen and chassis.
