What programs, other than a mapping program, require/are greatly enhanced by the GPS support?

I can tether through my Android phone, so I would probably never activate the 3G, only use for GPS.

WiFi. No way am I paying for two 3G connections. Anywhere I use my iPad theres WiFi anyways and its only going to get better.

3G or Wifi Only is really based on your use. I have a 3G version but never use the feature, it's on WiFi 24/7. I've never subscribed to the service and only got the model for "just in case". But, after two months I don't use my iPad out of my house. I have a MBA and an iPhone so having connection outside of WiFi area for me isn't important.

So again it's really up to the user. I could see someone who was out often using the 3G model.

GPS vs Wifi

Search.

Gps data does seem to come over, but at intervals of every minute or two from what I've read. Hotspot also drains iPhone battery fast from what I've read.

Yeah sure, but if you're in the car and charging, that doesn't seem to matter much. I live in Thailand, (300 min talk, 300 sms, 50 mms, unlimited 3g/edge/gprs, all for $20!) and there is no extra charge for Hotspot, so I am really considering Wifi only!

Ditto. I pay for the tethering option on my iPhone 4 through AT&T. This is way cheaper than shelling out for the 3G iPad and paying for a separate data plan. Also, if/when an LTE iPhone comes out, I will just tether to a faster phone and not feel bad about having an old 3G receiver in my iPad.

As for the GPS, that's why I always have the iPhone in my pocket. I don't need aGPS on my iPad.

I almost consider tethering with your phone or buying one of the 4G verizon hotspots a better option at this point.

3G version for me. You only pay about 100 bucks more but you greatly expand it's capability. I travel a lot and hotel wifi is usually much more costly in a week and is much more slow. You also get gps, which makes finding restaurants easier.

Tethering a smartphone kills battery life and is slightly more annoying to activate and deactivate since it's usually not prepaid.

I'm not entirely sure of the point of your post. If you never leave your driveway, you can use your home Wifi too.

It's trivial to come up with examples of why you might need a feature and examples of why you don't.

It's up to each individual to examine their own specific situation and figure out what works best for them.

Wifi for me. Use it at only 3 places: work, class, and at home. All three have wifi, so I'm set. Really helps that I can just add tethering to my iphone 4 whenever I'm gonna go out of town or something also.

What do you use for this? And how much data does it tend to eat up on average?

I just recently bought my iPad, so I'm not 100% sure, but I assume it uses the exact same amount of data that it would if I did it on my iPhone.

And I just pay an extra $25 (max) on my AT&T bill. Supposedly it's prorated, so if you cancel after a week of turning it on, they'll only charge you for a week. Pretty much just combines two data plans into one, at the expense of a slightly worse battery life on my iPhone.

Supposedly tetherme works good too (no paying the extra $25), but I don't feel like having AT&T hunting me down.

iPhone 4 using my MyWi and iPad 2 wifi works fine for me .....
I've been tempted to JB my iPhone 4 and use TetherMe or MyWi but something keeps holding me back. And the downside for me to use the legal tether option is that I'd have to give up my unlimited plan... so I'm kind of in a stalemate.

Sorry to confuse you, so let me take you by the hand on this. The point of my post is/was to share my reasoning as to whether to buy a 3g or wifi version of this new tablet called the iPad2, like everyone else on this thread. Like them, I was giving a little background of my situation and then sharing my choice. I apologize if this seemed "trivial" to you and for wasting your valuable time in having to suffer through my long and boring post, dawg!
