I know what you're referring too, but mine are definitely a few small scratches as they are black :(

Oh, that sucks. I believe you, my first iPhone 3G came with a few noticeable scratches on the metal bezel when I got it. If my iPad 2 has any scratches on the back, then I will exchange it just because they bother me and my iPad (and MacBook Pro) never got any black scratches. Those aren't just minor scratches if they are that deep.

Just received my Ipad 2 today.

I ordered a poly cover and that was shipped on the 11th. Unfortunately, the poly has yet to arrive. Due to the late delivery, apple volunteered to give me a leather cover for free.

First thing I did after opening my iPad 2 box was to check for damage during shipping. I immediately noticed that there was a small scratch on the back of the unit. This bummed me out but I decided to continue checking the unit. I then went on to check whether this unit has the back light bleeding problem that is effecting quite a few of the units. Fortunately, I have extremely minor back light bleeding. I was thrilled with that.

Here was my dilemma. Do I return a personalized engraved unit and obtain another unit that may/may not have the back light problem? I figured on not returning it but went ahead and contacted Apple to see what could be done. At first they offered to exchange the unit but I didn't want to have to wait and then gamble on the new unit possibly having back light bleeding. I was thoroughly thrilled that Apple offered me $50 credit/off and reordered my missing poly. I can live with the small scratch. Here's to Apple on their AWESOME CS.

I think that the aluminum will show wear, but nothing like the back of an iPod. I'm leaving mine naked since the thinness and lightness are the reasons i got the iPad 2 in the first place! I may get a sleeve for when I take it out of the house though.

Same, I use a $12.99 10.2" netbook sleeve made my Tuari that I got at target for putting it in my bag etc.

I have a couple very light scuffs/scratches on mine already, but I don't really care as I'm not anal about that and not one that upgrades often so I seldom sell any gadgets.

I usually just use them 2 or 3 years and give them to a friend or family member when I finally upgrade, or just recycle them if the batteries are dead and not user replaceable etc.

Are there any ways to protect the screen other than those sticker like screen protectors? :)

And if so, can you put a case on it still? :)

I bought a silicone skin for the back and a nice leather case. Yes, it makes it thicker, but i dont like scratches or dents on my stuff, and I have kids, so a good case is a must have!

what about steel wool to the back of the ipad? just make scratches all over the back in a nice way?? Anyone try it?

Before I bought my iPad 2 I read this forum. I've had my iPad 2 for almost 5 days and their are no scratches (knock on wood). I plan to by the clear smart back cover from boxwave.com.
