So after a tragic accident I rather not talk about. The backplate of my iPad 2 is very badly scratched up.

Now my question is how much do you guys think will cost for Apple to replace the backplate? Obviously I will have to wait until the demand for iPad 2 to die down. But I just want to get a sense of what peoples experience was with Apple Care when it comes to iPads.

Thanks....

Sorry to hear that.

I have no idea, but I'd guess a minimum of $100? Anyone else know?

Apple are awesome at out of warranty service, if you are nice and you hit luck with a nice "genius" they'd swap it over for you, they have stock of repair units so there's no need to wait for demand to die down, or they'll order one in for you. No harm in asking. :)

Like the other poster said, if you are nice, it has been known for the Apple people to just fix it for free of give you a brand new unit! They should have parts now

Go in and be honest with you. The geniuses hear so many stories all day they know are not true ("I have no idea how the back got scrated up") that being honest may make them more likely to help you.

Thanks for all the reply. Someone ask for a pic and here it is..... Please go easy on me. I normally do take very good care of my possessions.

Wow. It looks like it got dragged behind a moving vehicle...
I don't blame you. I wouldn't be able to live with it in that condition either.
Run to the apple store and see if you can get it squared away.

WTF? Did you also try to roll it up and smoke it?

Or maybe Wolverine got his mitts on it?

Bummer, that looks pretty nasty. I'd be more worried about the fact that the dock port looks warped now. Did it fall off the roof of a car? At least the front's not scratched.

Keep us posted on repair stuff.

Wow. From the looks of that I find it hard to believe that nothing is damaged inside. We NEED to hear the story on this.

Ouch I'm sorry

I'd agree with calling it a day... Gelaskin it (bearing in mind corners will still show slightly)... Gelaskin it, and die inside :(
