This probably is the best option. Price drops of the Air later this fall +refurb equals being able to get an entire generation ahead for nearly the same price if you just wait a little. Plus, you could possibly save a little bit more in that time to add some flexibility, if it's at all possible, money and time being a problem is certainly something anyone can understand though.

Do you think the Air will drop to $350? I am looking at either an iPad Mini Wi-Fi + Cellular for $299 or an iPad 4th generation for $350.

Not to mention the tons of Airs put on eBay when people try to sell theirs for the new shiny.

Just wanted to hear thoughts on this. I am debating getting an iPad and I wanted to know what you recommend. Obviously the iPad 4th generation would be the strongest performer, but it is also the most pricy at $349. The iPad 2 and Mini are identical almost in specs so I predict speed is fine either way. Needless to say, should I get a Mini, iPad 2, or iPad with Retina Display? I am leaning towards the Retina Display 4th generation.

I had a similar decision to make as you but only when the iPad Air and rMini (both wi-fi units) were the new kids on the block last year and our base PX was blowing out the 4th gen iPad (w/ cellular) for $330.00...

While I liked the rMini on its own, I didn't like the color range of the screen when compared to the Air and 4th gen.

While I liked the weight of the Air and the screen compared to the rMini I liked the screen of the 4th gen better.

On iOS7 when released the 4th gen didn't crash for me but a rare couple of times while the rMini and Air crashed several times a day (I'm assuming to the M7 co-processor that was new with the A7x in those two units vise the A6x in the 4th gen iPad).

My 1st gen iPad was gifted to an extended family member and an immediate family member got my 3rd gen 64Gb cellular iPad...I decided to keep the 4th gen iPad due to the very low price, good screen and the fact that all my 3rd gen cases and accessories (execpt charge cables) still worked with it (speakers didn't matter due those accessories being BT).

I also wanted a 32Gb model but couldn't justify the price increase when I got this so cheap still brand NIB!

The 4th gen model is still a strong contender and for my personal use I'll pick up an rMini eventually when :apple: increases the ram and makes the smallest size 32Gb (here's hoping for the next revision:eek:).

What does "out base PX" mean. I am leaning towards the fullsize model.

Sorry, it should have been "our" on base PX.

You would need to be eligible to shop at an NEX or BX on a base to get that deal last December.

Sorry, us civilians don't know what px, nex or bx stands for, I'm afraid. I'm thinking they are some kinds of onbase stores, but beyond that, that's Greek to me! :p

That makes sense. Wal-Mart didn't have them so I am going to order an Apple Refurb.

Military Exchange. They're stores at military bases usually with low prices and are tax free. No idea what the shortcuts means. The only reason I know about it is because my uncle's in the Navy so we've shopped there once or twice while visiting him. :)

Edit:
Searched Google and found this:

In the US Armed Forces, BX is a common name for a type of retail store operating on United States military installations worldwide. Originally akin to trading posts, they now resemble department stores or strip malls.

Known as the Base Exchange (BX) on Air Force bases, they are also referred to as a Post Exchange (PX) on Army posts, Navy Exchange (NEX) on Navy installations, Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) on Marine Corps installations and Coast Guard Exchange (CGX) on Coast Guard installations.
