Apple doesn't give out any information to case makers prior to the release of a new model?

They will share information with certain 3rd party vendors - taking necessary precautions to assure non-disclosure. But that doesn't mean they just hand out specs to anyone who's interested. The $9.99 case makers in China have to wait for the official release as do other smaller vendors. You can only keep things secret by limiting access. The likelihood that this guy was "in the loop" is nil.

I would be totally fine if the next iPad looks like that, it still looks pretty good as a fake mock up model. As long as it's aluminum not plastic the iPad 2 will be pretty nice.

I doubt its going to be plastic, with the supposed cameras that'd be very cheap, and if the thing heats up - it wasnt even a good idea on the 3G and s iPhones. I think it'll be metal.

From the iPhone 4 antenna press conference:

Steve: We're not going to refund third-party cases. It's a very small number because we didn't share designs with case makers, but now we wish there were more out there! Case makers have a history of disclosing designs we share with them, so we don't share. If people know what's coming, they stop buying the old version.

Any case maker putting out designs is either guessing or getting its info from Apple's supply chain, not from Apple itself. That said, Apple's growing supply chain is leaking a fair amount these days.

The speaker grill, if that is what it is, throws me off. It would also leave case designs to be odd to me if you had to have it open right there.

It looks garbage compared to the iPad I have in my hand right now.

Surely Apple would never release anything that ugly?

I'm still having a bit of a problem with thinking they would fit a speaker that would seem to be firing most of it's sound out backwards.

If like me you sometimes lay the iPad on your bed to use it, you will be almost totally blocking the sound.
Also, I could see, if on a table top, you could perhaps get some vibration as the sound will be firing out direct onto the table surface.

Oh how I wish they could design something to have front facing speakers.
