Have you been using the online inventory tracker for Target, Walmart and Best Buy? I noticed all week local inventory in the Philly / Wilmington area and in fact picked one up at Target in Springfield PA. I also called the Best Buy on 202 a couple times this week and they had inventory, which seems to be the case now too. I had no reason to have to buy my iPad at an Apple Store :)

Good luck to you.

Im looking for the 32gb wifi and all the BB in the area that are in stock state that all are for pre orders/reserves none on the floor

Take a pic next time, that would be interesting to see...

To my surprise I do have a photo of the (alleged) scalpers from last Saturday...

I live in Delaware, and i have to agree with the OP (only to that fact that majority of the people in todays line were of Asian Decent). A couple of friends of mine arrived along the same time as they did (4:30ish am).

They managed to get in between some of the asian customers. Got some pretty mean looks. hehe :)

But it really doesn't matter, everyone is entitled to purchasing the ipad and is free to do as they wish.

P.S.
Apple store is in the Christiana Mall, NEWARK, DE.. (FYI) :)

Hope you got your IPAD2 OP

My point exactly. No person or group of people is unfairly butting in front of others in these lines. The early bird gets the worm no matter what their race or what they intend to do with the worm.

Problem is these are unauthorized resellers sucking up stock and wreaking havoc with the US market for goods. The end result is that many consumers who would have bought an iPad2 (and the associated accessories) isn't. Instead they are continually subjected to a frustrating and disappointing shopping experience that gives Apple a bad reputation.

Of course all gravy to Apple's competitors. Who wants an iPad when it is near impossible to find?

Got mine at Target... and on Tuesday when I bought mine in PA, I also called BB in Wilmington (Concord Pike) and they had multiple models on the floor for purchase and not on reserve, FWIW.

Did you call Best Buy at concord pike today (saturday 26th, March)? I've been intermittently calling all week trying to see if they got stock in, to which everyone is saying "no".

I put one on reserve 2 days after the iPad 2 went on sale and still haven't received a call. It would be infuriating if they are selling iPads to the general public and not fulfilling reserve orders.

Then why not label them simply as scalpers. They're just trying to make a buck. Whether you realize it or not, you're being racist. Why would they have come on a tour bus. Maybe they all drove down to tax free Delaware in a convoy. Maybe there's a part of Delaware that has a large Asian population that you aren't aware of. Do you work for the census bureau?

It always amuses me how some people have this wildly skewed idea of what racism is.

Are you telling me you wouldn't find it odd if you lined up for an iPad and you noticed half the line was speaking German? Of course you would notice, and might find it curious as your area isn't known for having Germans in large numbers. Would you be racist for noticing such a thing? Of course not.

If I lined up and found half the people in line were speaking German and thought to myself that these German -speaking people shouldn't be able to buy up all the iPads and did they come here on a tour bus or something, then yes, i would consider that racist.

But if I noticed that all the people ahead of me in line were from my neighborhood and I thought to myself, "darn, why didn't I set my alarm for earlier" that wouldn't be racist.

There is nothing illegal about purchasing something at retail and reselling it. Apple allows it. There is no restriction on reselling ipads. If you purchase from Apple at wholesale prices and are an authorized reseller, then you are bound by their restrictions. No such restrictions exist for retail purchasers.

did they get a big shippment in? deciding on whether to head out there...looking for 32gb wifi black

Identifying someone by their race is not bring racist........eg " a group of Americans, three Italian men, one Irishman, four Chinese"....so I really don't think the OP was being racist.
The facts are however, that the scalping issue is largely due to Asian people being employed to buy iPads that are then sent east and sold at a profit. I imagine this is really annoying to the American folk who cannot get one due to being greeted by large groups of Asians every time they try to go to purchase. In truth, the scalpers could really be from anywhere, so its not the fact they are Asian that is annoying, but the iPad is not available everywhere in the world yet, so scalpers tend to be from these countries...eg..scalpers wont get much more in UK for an iPad as it is released here already. Last week (before 25th March) it was a different story as they were selling for at least £100-£200 profit over UK RRP.
I think Apple should have card only payments for US citizens, or cash plus some form of ID with address on it, and only 2 per person. This would weed out the scalpers (wherever they happen to hail from) and give the US customers a chance to buy one first,,,as Apple intended by releasing it there initially. They are an American company after all. Personally if I repeatedly seen the same faces in a queue at my local Apple Store every time I wanted to (and unsuccessfully ) buy an iPad I would challenge them, or at the very least complain to the store manager in a good enough way to warrant a skip from the queue and wave it in the scalpers face as I walked by whilst they still waited in queue!

To OP:

I was there at about 8:15 am (Sat March 26) and by that time there were no lines or iPads. What time were people there?

I though I was plenty early considering the store officially opens at 10 am, but guess not.

I don't think that they are scalping. Korea supposedly getting theirs next month. Plus, there are plenty of Asians in that neck of the woods. OP, there will be plenty of iPads since other nations are getting them. Asians are smart. They got in line way before you did, a sore loser.

It is leaning to racism. So, every time you see a group of Asians buying iPads or nintendo 3ds, are going to say that they are scalpers? Maybe he should took a pic of them. There are places where Asians highly populated.

I just went to the Christiana Mall Apple Store again for the second Saturday hoping to get an early spot in the line to buy an iPad 2, but to no avail, and left before the store opened because the Apple employees clearly said there were no enough iPads. That's fine, but what I observed about the people standing in the line was beyond bizarre: This Saturday, just like last Saturday, almost the entire line appeared to be Koreans (I can differentiate between different Asian nationalities), many clearly speaking Korean, a few even holding books clearly written in Korean. It appeared to be an organized operation to swamp the store and buy all of the iPads. Who was in charge of it, if anyone, I cannot begin to guess. I did not see a tour bus, nor did I see a tour bus last week. I spoke with another American and she too was there last Saturday and she concurred that the line appeared to be virtually all foreigners. Now granted, I didn't ask for IDs and it very well may have been many of the people in the line were not about to hop on a plane back to Asia because they live here. Entirely possible. But I didn't hear much if any English being spoken. If this were New York, Los Angeles or San Fran, I'd expect lots of tourists. But in Delaware? Bizarre.

I made a post about this like 2 weeks ago. It is in the wasteland now.

In the strictest sense that is probably correct, but I would wager that most of these 'resellers' are breaking laws in the process. I doubt many are complying with state/local business operations laws or reporting the income. If all of the necessary business fees and taxes were paid, this type of reselling wouldn't be worth the small amount of money received per hour worked.

Why's it bizarre? It could be that one person saw his/her friend using it and it started spreading from there. It's a hot commodity.

Oh please, give me a break.

It's so bizarre. Where did all the chinese people come from? I don't see any tour bus or any rickshaws in the parking lot. I know they don't live in my neighborhood, we're all Americans where I live, so these iPads are for us to buy, not those Chinese people.
