Never mind fully modelled cockpits and reflections, what I want from racing games on the iPad 2 is 60fps. Can someone confirm whether RR has this when they get their iPad 2 later today?

I just went into the app store and there was an infinity blade update icon for a split second and then it disappeared.

Edit: searched and updated manually.

Physical buttons...

Not to mention the PSP2 has a quad core processor and apparently quite a beast of a GPU.

"The-type-that-will-make-the-iPad2-crap-its-pants" kind of specs. And for less money.

....Next holiday season.

Yeah, next year you can be sure apple will have an OLED screen on the iPad 3 and 1GB of ram as well as quad core cortex a9 CPU and GPU. Sure, that's a given knowing apple.

What?

I was just referencing that oohing and awing over quadcore processors and gpus this far out is a bit silly. The product pipelines for that technology have been in place for quite some time now. Right now the current tech is dual core, the next revision is quad which was slated in many mobile cpu roadmaps for the holiday season anyway.

I don't see the NGP (PSP2) as pushing the boundaries of specs, just merely being the first thing planned out of the gate when those chips get into production.

Comparing the specs of it to this current ipad(2) is literally comparing two different generations of tech.

Nobody even knows if the A5 is a dual core A8 (thus being behind technology) or A9 chip. But even so, the NGP will be THE gaming portable handheld console. The iPad doesn't come close. Core gamers have always wanted buttons for a full on experience and the iPad will probably never have that.

BTW, the NGP looks to be realeasing November this year in Europe. So are you still arguing technology isn't ready for quad core chips?

I think theres basically room for everyone in portable gaming. Though that industry is definitely heading for a huge paradigm shift.

I hope sony has enough developers interested in the PSP2, it seems this go around of "next gen" portable gaming has seen a very weak push to develop for.

There is no such thing as a dual core A8. It doesn't exist.
And benchmarks show it performing the same as the A9 tablets.

What??:confused::confused:

Where the hell did I ever argue that? I've been saying that quadcore has been slated for production at that time anyway. So its not like they revolutionized anything here, they're just getting one of the first products out after the revision to quadcore. Comparing the NGP's slated specs to the ipad2 specs is literally comparing two different generations.

Here is Nvidias roadmap for the quadcore version of the Tegra. Production in August for delivery in the fall. Now, Sony will probably be using its own chips for the NGP, but the industry is pretty much in lockstep roadmap wise so this is pretty much what we should expect from all the big guys.

Shift you say? You can reassure yourself gaming devices with buttons won't be dying anytime soon. The feedback you get from touching a screen to shoot is nowhere near the same of pressing a shoulder button.

Lack of developers? Let me put out a few names on board which were announced in January.

- Media Molecule (little big planet 2)

- Kojima productions (metal gear solid)

- Activision (call of duty)

- Sega

- Epic games

- Japan studios

And there are a few more I missed out but you can clearly see that it's not a lacklustre line up months before the release date. Come E3, there will be an abundance of developers announced.

You were implying quad core is 1 year ahead tech, and that's not the case if Sony can release a product within this year. Which has quad core CPU and GPU. By the way, after looking through ARM's website, it states the A9 chip was released In 2009, theres no reason why in 2011 companies can't be utilising the quad core form, the reason being companies don't want to push for something that would increase costs. But the technology is certainly there. Hence the NGP releasing with this tech THIS year.

I just checked on ARM's website, you are right.

Oh spare me. I've been gaming for almost 30 years, have all three current consoles under the TV and a gaming PC upstairs so would consider myself a 'core gamer' and I've NEVER understood the full on hissy fits some people throw over touch controls. If they're done right (NBA Jam is a great example) virtual sticks work perfectly well, when the platform uses the touch screen and gyro etc properly it can be absolutely staggering. Same thing we see on consoles with physical controls, good schemes are never noticed, bad schemes result in the controller being fed into a wood chipper. I've found myself spending more time gaming on iOS than I do on any platform other than PC (and that only because of Civ 5, kinda ironic as that game would work beautifuly on the iPad).

As for the NGP there's no doubt it's going to be the most powerful hardware on the market when its released. Looking at the spec sheet and assuming it does come out in November I can't help but think Sony are likely to take a hit subsidising it but that's fine if it's popular and they make the difference back on games.

The problem is going to be the sheer rate of hardware development in the mobile space. It's a quad core A9 and a quad core SGX543MP4+ in the NGP which is, basically, half the spec of the iPad 2. Does anyone think that the A6 won't be close to that (especially if Apple go Retina, they're going to need the extra power)? Nvidia are racing ahead with the Tegra range as well, heck all mobile chipsets are improving at a ridiculous rate. The NGP faces the very real possibility of being outshone by tablets and smartphones (and the iPod Touch more worryingly for Sony) only a year or two after its launch.

You do realize that the NGP is technically still just vaporware right? The thing isn't production ready for a reason, but I wouldn't just assume the specs are going to stick because you want them to.

Lest we not forget the original specs for the PS3... The model they had when they announced it had two HDMI ports, three Ethernet ports and six USB ports and that funny boomerang controller...

As for the chip being released in 2009... Just because they made a piece of silicon doesn't mean it went into production then.

Intel released this 80-core cpu a few years ago: http://techresearch.intel.com/ProjectDetails.aspx?Id=151

I STILL can't buy one.

There are no devices shipping with Quad A9 atm, heck, the Dual A9s are just starting to show up.

You also seem to not understand the negatives of such technology. 4 cores WILL use more energy than 2, it will generate more heat, and it will require more memory. And while you have mentioned how the device will cost less, there really is nothing to confirm that.

One of the few announced Quad A9 SoCs the Tegra Kal-El is slated for a 2011Q3/4 release.

The point is you are comparing a prototype to a fully function now available to purchase device. I'd bet you anything there are some scary powerful iPad 3 prototypes lying around apples labs that would put the NGP to shame...

Also, keep in mind that even if the NGP manages to launch before Christmas, and it manages to keep all the features they are claiming, and sell for a semi-reasonable price, there will only be around 3 months before apple is out there releasing the iPad 3 which if it has the specs that have been rumored would fairly easily beat out the NGP in most every way.

Quad Core isn't 1 year ahead of current tech, but it is around 6-8 months ahead. Announcing a product that uses parts that don't exist yet is easy (The original Electric Car lol) Bringing it to market is not...

Iff apple brings out a PS3 style controller that plugs into the dock port The iPad would become the ultimate portable gaming device

For years people complained the PSP wasn't portable enough. So how is the iPad more so? :D
As ever some people look at specs and not the game studios themselves when judging how good a game system is .

I hope that epic fixes the stuttering in infinity blade. It can be quite annoying to see during the animation sequences.

Hoe do dey do dat??? The iOS can really do dem graphics!!

If something like this ram on my MBP it would heat it up like a toaster oven and I'd have to stay on the chargers or die.

running warcraft 2 on my macbook causes it to turn its fans on max, even games designed to run on osx as simple as angry birds cause it to get warm

One download for all current iOS models, including iPhone4, iPhone 3Gs, and iPod Touch. Brilliant. One download, one price. Just like Predators. Which, is awesome.

~ CB

Which means that if you've got a 3GS, you're forced into downloading and taking up space with textures etc. that your phone can't use - hardly brilliant.

Why can't it use them? There is no separate framebuffer, so texture space isn't an issue.

too bad the thing doesn't haven't a usb port or you could just plug it in.

Nice way to deal with fragmentation; one DL for both the iPad 1 and 2*.

*so-called

You keep chirping the same line like a mindless parrot. And each time you are shown to nothing more than a troll spewing the same ridiculous comparisons. Will you ever get tired of looking foolish?

It's only too bad...

... that great graphics is the only thing Infinity Blade has going for it.

...

I liked Infinity Blade but then when I beat the final boss it lost alot of appeal. Also it is very repetative. Downloading real racing HD 2 though because I like the idea of 16 player online multiplayer that sounds pretty good and I hope more iOS games start online multiplayer
