The NGP does have a quad core processor, but it also isn't coming out for a while. Supposedly holiday season 2011 for Japan, and who knows for the rest of the world. By that time Apple will be set to release iPad 3.

The biggest upgrade the iPad 2 should have is more memory. Also, I think 16gb storage is ridiculous. I have the 32gb model and it's not enough, when iOS games coming out are nearly 1gb (or more...puzzle quest 2) it fills up really fast. I don't even have 1 movie on my iPad anymore. (though iOS game devs. really should take a look at Dead Space, that's 300mb and how iOS games should be done.) I wish I would have gotten a 64gb model, the bottom end model should be 32gb, top-end 128gb. I'd like to see iPad 2's be 32,64,128gb respectively. As for the camera's, I could care less about that feature, though it would be "neat" to play with augmented reality.

I've really been toying around with the idea of picking up an iPad for the better part of a year. I think it is almost a necessity to have 512meg of ram now. The iPhone 4 is lightyears ahead of the 3GS, and i think most of that is due to the RAM.

I've never actually stored a lot of data on my iPhone. To me, it's more important that I am able to use my phone to communicate, so I don't waste hours of battery listening to music or watching movies. I have a feeling this would change with an iPad, so I definitely agree that 16GB would be too small.

I have a question... I know that when the iPad was released the iphone apps blown up to fit the iPad were super blurry.

Now, if an iphone app has retina display and you display it full screen on an iPad does it still look blurry?

Yes. I think Apple did this on purpose to encourage iPhone app developers to make iPad versions of their apps.

It actually looks pretty nice. There is a jailbreak app called RetinaPad that enables any Retina-enabled application to be displayed "1x" on iPad. To me these apps look very crisp and the difference between 2x and Retina-1x is very noticeable.

PowerBooks have been supporting external displays at 2048x1536 since 2002.

Apple did choose 1024x768 initially to be able to double resolution later on. That's why the first release didn't come with a slightly higher resolution, which certainly could have been done. Games, as noted before, don't need the higher resolution. It's a matter of production capacity whether we will see it in the next model, hope they'll make it happen.

I think games do need it, the higher PPI reduces jaggies and makes games like Infinity Edge (and all others) much smoother and more detailed. Just compare Infinity Blade on 3GS vs iPad vs iPhone 4 -- you can notice more jaggies on the iPad than the 3GS, and I'm sure the 4 would put both to shame.
