I am also looking for a solution to this for our sales people and trainers. Any luck?

We need a solution like this for training the end users in our Company. I've subscribed to this thread in the hopes that someone figures this out.

Watching with interest

I would like to display my ipad2 on my 27 iMac to demonstrate the apps I use and publish them online. Being fairly new to this whole connection game I bought an Apple Digital AV Adapter and a separate hdmi cable. The HDMI cable goes nicely into the Apple Digital AV Adapter and the other end of the HDMI cable was intended for my 27" iMac....however I have no such HDMI slot on the iMac monitor (even though I read you could do this, it must have been an earlier iMac. ..aaargggh). I thought there might be some kind of adapter that or HDMI port I could put in the iMac or maybe there is a way to do it Wirelessly. I have been pursuing this for weeks now. I can't believe it's so difficult.

I would do it straight to a TV but the beauty of doing it to a mac computer is the built in audio.

Any suggestions would be most welcome,

Nicki

I think you are missing the points I've made.

1. Most of my sales people aren't using macs. Running Xcode is not a solution.

But they wouldn't need to run Xcode. You would run the simulator and then screencast it to them with GoToMeeting. The simulator has drawbacks over running on a live device, but I believe that it can show your touch points as dots which is a plus.

If that really isn't satisfactory then I would suggest a VGA or HDMI capture device that will work with your computer. The only issue I could see with that setup is that there may be some delay between the iPad and your screen.

Need even more help

Hi, I have the need to put iPad2 mirrored on my MacBook Pro using SketchbookPro for iPad, Brushes, and other drawing programs to do some things:

1. Capture into QuickTime and/or iMovie to edit the images and construct a first strike to last strike video to post on YouTube and my websites and an Internet TV channel on the construction of the art stroke by stroke.

2. Play on GoToMeeting or FreeConferenceCall in real time for seminar participants, as I create the art as we go.

3. To have it all capable of going to a big screen and/or projector on stage for live stage performances -- while being captured for live Internet TV and Webinars, as well as edited and archived for YouTube, website, etc later.

ANY advice is very welcome, and thank you for your support!

Cheers, Z

I have a theory on how to do this, but I'm not certain it will work, and its kind of crazy.

1. Connect your iPad to an appleTV2 via airplay & mirror the display.
2. Connect the appleTV2 to a HDMI - Component video box like this one: http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Compon...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1328399912&sr=1-1
3. Connect the converter box to a sling box.
4. Watch the sling box on your Mac or PC and broadcast over WebEx, GoToMeeting, etc.

I can't think of any reason why that wouldn't work, other than you might loose audio. If you try it out, please let me know as I'd like to know if it works or not.

WOW! THANK YOU!!! I can't thank you enough! This is going to save me so much time at the office, as the only iOS developer on site I am constantly updating code on people's machines and getting roped into demos to present with the simulator on WebEx. This is amazing, they're going to get at least 10 licenses purchased from our company.

So happy! :D:D:D:D

Again, thanks for sharing!

or http://www.airserverapp.com/ which does a similar job, fullscreens better, and supplies a 5 computer license for the same price Reflection does for a single user license. And has recently been updated to support mirroring.

A possible solution

I've been giving this same question some thought and research myself. Here's what I plan to try:
Get the Composite AV cable kit from Apple and connect it to a tuner such as the Elgato EyeTV. I'm thinking of buying the EyeTV HD since I also want to set up a PVR system. However, any tuner device that has composite AV inputs should work. Then displaying the iPad on the computer will amount to running the TV viewer application that comes with the tuner device. I don't use GoToMeeting but I assume that you can have it capture the desktop on your computer.

I haven't tried this yet -- it's on my todo list for next month.

Does anyone know if there will be a way to screen mirror from an iPad 2 INTO my computer? I'm thinking if I get an external video capture device that takes VGA or HDMI in I can use the corresponding iPad cable to have the screen mirrored on my computer. Something like this:

iPad2 -> VGA out cable -> video capture device -> usb in on computer

Would something like this work?
http://www.epiphan.com/products/frame-grabbers/vga2usb/

Apologies if this has been asked before, I did search quite a bit before posting.

Basically, I'd like to be able to run a GoToMeeting with the iPad displayed.

TIA.

Try purchasing the software Reflection. Can be found at reflectionapp.com. This software only works with iPhone 4s and iPad2/3 and mirrors your device on Mac or PC for recording, projecting etc. I use it to record App demos. The softwrae only costs $14.99 and uses the AirPlay functionality on your device to connect. Please refer to the support tab on the Reflection website for instructions on how to locare AirPlay if you can't find it on your device. Hope that heklps! :)
