Both screens are made by LG

Depends on your luck. Samsung also supplied their panels for the iPad 1 and they are supplying iPad 2 panels as well in addition to LG. Interestingly it means some iPad panels are not IPS since Samsung uses its own comparable tech called PLS.

My iPad 2's display is definitely better than my iPad 1's. It is brighter and seems to have a better contrast.

My iPad 2 display is a much cooler temperature than my calibrated desk top display. My father's iPad 1 display is much warmer than my calibrated desk top display. I think his iPad 1 is much closer to my desk top display, but the cooler colors on my iPad 2 don't bother me. When not looking at any two of them at the same time, I really don't notice.

There certainly seems to be more mid-tone contrast in my iPad 2 screen than his iPad 1 screen.

I guess I'm the odd one out here, but my iPad 2's display is markedly inferior to the display on my iPad 1. Contrast is lower, color temperature is higher (bluer, less neutral), and the screen has noticeable variation in brightness and color from left to right. Not to mention backlight bleeding...

From what I understand, there are multiple screen suppliers for the iPad. It would be interesting to know who made my screen.

iPad2 screen inferior to iPad1

I agree with the previous poster about poor iPad 2 screen quality.

My friend just showed me his iPad 2, and the screen looks like my Pandigital novel 7" ereader, which has a sparkly, textured appearance, not nearly as clear and clean as my iPad1. I guess it's the various screen manufacturers referred to in this thread, but it's really surprising Apple accepted this. I'd have to look at other iPad 2's to judge how common this "inferior" screen is.... since many are singing the iPad 2's praises, it's either an uncommon occurance, or my idea of screen quality differs from theirs.
