It occurred to me that the delay might be because they have to go through the shipment and "do something" to each iPad... such as apply a minor software update or check for defects like light bleeding or stuck pixels. I've seen many reports of issues so perhaps Apple is mandating some kind of action to address this, and they need today to get it done in the back room of each Apple store.

Just a thought. Doesn't really change anything in the end.

I can't seem to shake the feeling of being annoying to the staff, asking the obvious "do you have ipad2" question. Or even the "I heard online that..." everyone's real nice, but deep down they gotta be like "NO, NO, NO, WE DON'T HAVE ANY!!"

Yeah I agree, I would hate to see me coming in and asking. But they get paid to work and deal with customers, it's not a charity. In the end every customer asking about an ipad is a sealed business transaction for Apple.

I got to the apple store Westchester mall at 7:30am. There are 10 of us in line. An employee just came out to tell us they got today's shipment and they did not receive any iPads.

Montgomery Mall & Bethesda Row... (MD)

I was at Bethesda Row (MD) this morning (Tuesday at 7am), and they said their expected shipment of iPads was in transit but had not arrived. Anything that arrives today will be sold tomorrow morning. The manager very helpfully called over to Montgomery Mall, and it was the same story there. The quest continues.

have read stories both ways - good and bad engagements with apple retail employees. i guess everyone has a breaking point. perhaps chalk it up to "they are doing the best they can with what they have..."

retail is no picnic and i have some empathy for their plight. could be time for them to consider alternate career options, no? i am sure they are frustrated and, if they are so, let them move on. i did that off my last job and couldn't be happier.

why is replenishment/fulfillment occurring in retail outlets when there are many customers who ordered online and have yet to see any change in their ship status. is the virtual "line" being virtually ignored since the sale is (for the most part) guaranteed?

so the rumor was stores were getting ipads for this morning?

now we are hearing stores either dont have supply or if they did, they will release it tomorrow morning.

ok...

Waited in line at the Walden Galleria Apple Store in Buffalo this morning (Tuesday), where we were told that they did not receive a shipment. Same spiel: "IF we receive a shipment, they'll be on sale tomorrow morning at 9"
