Just hours after online orders for the iPad 2 went live in the United States, Apple has already extended shipping estimates for new orders out to 2-3 weeks for all 18 models. Those estimates would put new orders on par or even after Apple's scheduled March 25th launch for the iPad 2 in over two dozen other countries.

Apple is likely offering conservative shipment estimates at this time as it seeks to balance its existing stocks and incoming shipments against the surge of orders, so customers may see new orders ship before that timeframe. Regardless, Apple is clearly seeing high demand relative to its launch supplies. Several analysts are predicting debut sales of 500,000-600,000 units, nearly double the 300,000 units sold in the first-day launch of the original iPad.

18 models? Don't you mean 12?

Unless you're including the original models, I didn't think they were still on sale in the US.

Expect long lines, chaos, and plenty of news coverage...just what Apple wanted by not allowing you to preorder online.

Nice job.

Perfect timing....

The Apple Hype Machine learned its lesson from the launch of the Verizon iPhone. Cannot have that here, they need to gin up a supply issue to get demand flowing. Apple WANTS lines, don't fool yourself.

Looks to me that Apple, and Mr. Jobs, struck GOLD again with this new device. Well done, I can't wait to pass my iPad1 to my wife and get my new 32GB Black.

Hope this is a sign that the majority of people ordered online so there will be small lines and enough for all at the stores tonight

18?

3 capacities x 2 colors x 2 connectivity versions... + ?

6 Wifi (3 capacities x 2 colours)
6 GSM (3 capacities x 2 colours)
6 CDMA (3 capacities x 2 colours)
18

So many people have been having trouble counting to 18 for the last week.

...so when the iPads are released in Australia I guess there would be a 2-3 week wait as well? I can still remember when iPhone 4 came out I waited for 3 weeks and another few days for shipping.

This is the way news coverage works in our country. It's all about perception.

A million iPad 2s sold on day 1 - but all online: No news coverage, and the iPad 2 launch is a failure.

100,000 iPad 2s sold on day 1 - with long lines at the Apple store (because they don't sell until the 5pm news): Plenty of news coverage, and the iPad 2 launch is a 'success'.

Apple understands perception better than most companies.

I am calling it now. iPad 2 is not going to be released on other countries by March 25th. iPad was so popular and apple had to delay in other countries. With this model being already back ordered for 2-3 weeks, we are going to see these iPad prices go easily 1000 dollars on ebay. UK, Japan and other countries are not getting them in 2 weeks. More like not until April.

I mean US orders have to be filled before others. First come first serve.

Expect delays until iPhone 5 is announced.

Interesting. 5:10 eastern time they were 3.5 business days. I could've ordered, but I bet I'll get one in the store without issue.

3 capacities X 3 Wireless Models X 2 Colors = 18

Capacities: 16, 32 and 64 GB (3)
Wireless Models: WiFi, GSM and CDMA (3)
Colors: White and Black (2)
