I think Apple's plan for a lot of press coverage may have been ruined by the 8.9 in Japan.

For a while at least. Seems it didn't affect Tokyo too much, and the body count, as of now, is only in the hundreds. Unless that starkly jumps, or the tsunamis affect anything American, this story will die enough for iPad to get its mention on the evening news.

True...
I think I've hit my donation limit for the year though, with the floods and cyclones in Queensland, earthquake in NZ, time to spend some money on me... but I still feel guilty and I know I'll still get an iPad 2 the day it's launched in Aus.

Glad I set the alarm at 4am

Expect long lines, chaos, and plenty of news coverage...just what Apple wanted by not allowing you to preorder online.

Nice job.

Perfect timing....

The Apple Hype Machine learned its lesson from the launch of the Verizon iPhone. Cannot have that here, they need to gin up a supply issue to get demand flowing. Apple WANTS lines, don't fool yourself.

Agreed.

It's funny to see the panic that this causes. Now these guys will all run to hurry and wait. Amazing that some call this an "experience". Yikes

Maybe they will make their release on other countries deadline now... re-route all those japan orders as their country is under water atm.... should be plenty spares now.

I am calling it now. iPad 2 is not going to be released on other countries by March 25th. iPad was so popular and apple had to delay in other countries. With this model being already back ordered for 2-3 weeks, we are going to see these iPad prices go easily 1000 dollars on ebay. UK, Japan and other countries are not getting them in 2 weeks. More like not until April.

I mean US orders have to be filled before others. First come first serve.

Expect delays until iPhone 5 is announced.

Its comments like this that bug me. US isn't Apples only market. First come first serve on shipments to the US as may be, but what makes you think that Apple will divert shipments destined to other countries back to the US?

It may be that you have to wait 2-3 weeks whereas an iPad 2 order in the UK is 5 days... it's called luck of the draw.

Or you could order one online then and then pop into a store today. If you get one you can always cancel the online order because they only charge you once it's shipped. :)

Unfortunately they don't do in-store engraving. ;)

Agreed.

Wait a sec. You don't think waiting in a long line or constantly refreshing the UPS tracking page isn't an experience? Excuse us, Mr. Adventure.

:D

But seriously, my iPad purchasing experience consists of setting an alarm for 4:00 in the morning, ordering and going back to sleep.

Bad launch planning

there are too many iPad 1 s in the clearance section in all the online stores (not only us store)

$100 reduction made the second hand iPad values less by $200

no online preorder ...

two weeks shipping time

18 models? Don't you mean 12?

Unless you're including the original models, I didn't think they were still on sale in the US.

Including wifi, Verizon and ATT.. in two colors each...apple is actually 18 different models of ipad 2.....

How can Apple keep surviving in the face of all these product failures?

+1 how do they do it?

They'll have a lot of egg on their face when the lines form for Xooms, Galaxy and Dell Streaks.

Now these seems to be the REAL "Must have tablets"

Better side step and avoid the epic fail ipad 1.5 underpowered overhyped device.

sarcasm plus:)

No way will I wait. My only sorta "rush" is I'm getting it for the kids who are expecting it. So I will pass by the stores and try. If it's a long line I'll just wait till there are short or no lines.

Apple is obviously trying to get tons of people to the stores.

I think the vast majority of the population is suffering from Apple Hype Fatigue. It used to be once or twice a year. Now, it's and endless stream of one after another. In the past two months we've had Verizon iPhone, MacBook and now Ipad.

People are wising up - there's no need to clamor to stand in line for the newest Apple product. Just get it whenever.

Despite Apple's attempt to manufacture buzz lines, I'm guessing there won't bee that many. Look at the sheer number of outlets one can go to buy an Ipad 2.

I wonder how soon they will turn up in the refurb store? Maybe this Tuesday if somebody just didn't like it or didn't like the model they got?

Nice job.

Exactly. Apple knew what they were doing. Seems like the lack of ridiculous lines for the Verizon iPhone launch didn't sit well with them.

Well done:D

I don't feel too bad about having to wait until the 25th for the UK launch now, and I know for sure I'm not gonna be in any lines.

18?

3 capacities x 2 colors x 2 connectivity versions... + ?

3 connectivity versions. Remember, Verizon and Apple versions are still different.

The 2-3 weeks is an estimation based on volume ordered, I doubt it filters back to any meaningful warehouse stock yet. I also suspect we'll see a jump in availability of some of those order ship times when we get to 6pmEST through Midnight as people get their iPads in store and start canceling the online order they made just as insurance they get one as soon as possible.
