Here in a little bit I'm going to go over to the mall and get in line, makes me sad there is no pre-order.

Local time here is 9:00 AM, so 8 hours until launch. I'm sure there will be long lines today. Thankfully we don't have to activate the iPad like the iPhone.

Do what size is a good buy? 32 or 64. Ordered both since I am torn. Ordered around 8 am and shipping date is April 1st for me.

Well, get both. Do it for Steve!

Seriously. I have the 64 GB version of the iPad 1, and use its space all the time. Especially on trips, where it becomes my camera hard drive.

Well for anyone who can't get the iPad2, you can just order/pick up a xoom. From what I have been reading here they are virtually the same, except maybe the Xoom is better. So perhaps this is a blessing in disguise for people.

I think the vast majority of the population is suffering from Apple Hype Fatigue. It used to be once or twice a year. Now, it's and endless stream of one after another. In the past two months we've had Verizon iPhone, MacBook and now Ipad.

Actually this is the only big hyped stand in line event since the original iPad launch. So I don't see where you get fatigue from.. The verizon iPhone launch was nothing like this... and macbook announcement is not even relevant as most people were not even aware of it.

Despite Apple's attempt to manufacture buzz lines, I'm guessing there won't bee that many. Look at the sheer number of outlets one can go to buy an Ipad 2.

Please come back here tonight... LOL

So let's say Apple sells 600,00 units the first day rather than the 300,000 they did the first time around. Given the sheer number of outlets with 100-150 unit inventories, that is possible. Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, Verizon, AT&T, Apple, and older Apple dealers.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab has a 17% market share on shipments to dealers but has low SELL-THROUGH to END USERS. I wonder how long it took/will take for Samsung's Galaxy Tab to reach 300,000 units in end users' hands?

18 is correct.

3 Wi-Fi Black + 3 Wi-Fi White + 3 AT&T Black + 3 AT&T White + 3 Verizon Black + 3 Verizon White

6 x 3 = 18

All things D says the iPad2 is evolutionary (~1.75x speed of 1). So let's say the iPad3 is also "only" evolutionary (~1.75x speed of 2) [~3x of 1].

The very first thing I would do if I were Apple is reduce the number of SKUs by having a world pad (CDMA/GSM), still in two colors, but in only two capacities, good and better. Flash prices will have dropped and capacities increased by then. iPad4 may even have Flash and memory as a single integrated unit, alongside the Apple A6.

1x2x2=4 not 18

Don't activate cellular unless you need it, but it's always there if you do, or for the next owner, and don't upcharge for it by offering a "crippled" wifi only variant.

you're baiting, right?

Just be patient and wait, why does everyone need it asap?

As crazy as it sounds, we only have 50 weeks until the iPad 3 comes out!! Every week counts :D

But seriously, I wanted to avoid the retail store craziness so I ordered online. Little did I know that it would be 3-5 to SHIP OUT, then another 3-5 to arrive. I would've braved the retail stores if I had known that was the situation. I just hope they're being conservative with the times...

I just noticed I accidentally ordered 2 covers for my iPad. I ordered during our Tsunami evacuation here (we had gotten to high ground already) and didn't double check before submitting.

Tried to cancel it but it went to "prepared for shipment" before I could.

Where did you get this information from ? Steve's botched misquote that was corrected by every media back in january ?

What's going on in Japan will put the iPad on the back page on the news cycle. 3 weeks out is due to the shipping stoppage from china

Just ordered mine. Ship date is listed as 4/1. It would be nice to have it sooner since I this will be my first iPad, but it isn't really a big deal to me. I am sure I will enjoy it when I get it.

That's dedication.

How does it become your hard drive since there are very limited ways to store stuff on it. Am I missing something?

Ugh, we go through this every time. You can't plan around the initial surge of demand for a new and good product. Yes, there are three ways that you can eliminate long delays, but they are all bad. First, make many iPads with factories going full blast for months while you stockpile iPads somewhere safe and secure. That costs lots of money and it delays the initial release while you stockpile. Both of these are lose lose for Apple and it keeps the products sitting in warehouses instead of with customers. So lose for the customer. The second solution is to have higher prices to cut down on amounts sold. That's a loose for the customer (and basically if you want to pay a higher price you can try to buy second hand iPad 2 anyway through Craigslist) and presumably a lose for Apple as it sells less (though it gets more profit for each). Apple has tried and been harshly criticized for having high initial prices followed by a quick drop. Apple won't do that again, but it would temper some of the initial surge of demand and it would spread it out a bit over time.
