Hey guys, whenever my iPad 2 is locked for a while, it wont wake from sleep. I have to give it a hard reset. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes I have the exact same problem

Ipad2 32GB Verizon model
IOS 5 beta 1
Shuts off after some period of sleep or locked state.

I think I isolated the issue....make sure banner notifications are turned off for mail app. If the screen is locked and you get a mail it freezes up causing you to reboot. 🙁 hope it gets fixed in the next beta!

Did it help you at all? I tried recreating every way I could think of with mail and never could. I'll turn of mail notifications for the rest of the night and see what happens.

Hey Rick, yes it helped, my iPad no longer shuts off. I turned off mail banner notifications like Defender2010 said, and at least for now, it doesn't turn off anymore.

Glad to be of assistance.....
Plus, if it's a bit slow, I turned off all iCloud back up of mail, contacts, bookmarks and notes that MobileMe already syncs,,,,,if you have MobileMe that is...the iCloud service seems to be choking up the iPad as its beta still. Now my iPad is running very well indeed..

This happened to me twice today. It wasn't the Mail Banner as that seemed to be turned off. I took your advice and manipulated it by turning ALL Banner notifications off. Seems OK. So far...

Same thing happened to me. First thing I tried turning off was multi-touch gestures.

Hasn't had a problem yet (about 10 hours)

I will now freely admit that my hunch about turning off mail banner notifications does not work 🙁 I also tried the above "turning off multitouch gestures" but it fails too....tried turning off iCloud account to see if that helps....I never used a 1st beta that did this before...

Thanks. I'm having the same issue. Turning off iCloud sync for contacts & calendars didn't seem to help either. Hopefully we'll get it narrowed down soon.

Quick update: Initially turning off the Mail notifications seemed like it fixed the issue, it died on me last night again. Had to give it another hard reboot. I guess we are all stuck until a new build is released.

Interesting I'm on an iPad 1 and have not experienced this freeze but reading that you have activated gesture control has me pulling my hair because I can't find that setting anywhere in iOS 5 on my iPad 1.
Could you tell me where you have that setting.

Thanks

I turned off Auto-Lock, set to Never, and since, it hasn't had this issue.

This looked interesting in my log:

Jun 9 15:17:15 unknown apsd[54] <Warning>: Unable to cancel system wake for 2011-06-09 14:17:17 +0000. IOPMCancelScheduledPowerEvent() returned 0xe00002f0

I think the problem lies on those restoring from a previous backup. I went and turn back on banner notification and now there is no freezing. Maybe all one have to do is tinker the on/off of some of these notifications.

Sure, you go to settings --> general --> multitasking gestures. It is located under "Restrictions" and above "Date & Time, Keyboard, International, Accessibility, and Reset"

Well I came in here to see if anyone else had its issue and what do you know. This happened to me twice today and requires a hard reboot. Not sure if tinkering with the lockscreen stuff will work sine that doesn't as well.
