I'm not planning to upgrade from iPad 2.

I am planning to spend the next 6 months or so avoiding looking at the iPad 2 and the New iPad side by side with the same content displayed. I have a feeling my resolve would crumble...

Having gone from 2nd gen to the 3rd gen iPad I can straddle both sides of the fence. Yes, for me at my level of disposable income the upgrades in screen, GPU, camera and addition of LTE made it worth the purchase. Especially since I'm also on a Galaxy Nexus with VZW, so the LTE sim is swappable :D

That being said, my fiance happily plays away on her 2nd gen and couldn't care less about the new one. If I wasn't such a gear geek and compulsive upgrader I would be more than happy to still be rockin the "2".

I agree 100%. But the New iPad is really nice. I can def not go back to the "2" now. Between the retina display and Blazing fast LTE (faster than my home wifi) I couldn't be happier!

Hi everyone!

I currently have the iPad 2 and I really love it. I checked out the iPad 3 and the screen does look amazing. This does seem to me the main upgrade though and I'm not sure if I can justify upgrading just for this?

Thoughts?:)
I purchased the 3 from BB and returned it after 3 days. I still have my 2 though. If I was coming from a 1, this is a no brainer. The higher resolution screen didn't seem that much better, it was noticeably heavier and when you sync you pictures, it takes twice the space vs the 2. The screen on my 2 is also a little more uniform than the 3 was. Don't get me wrong, if I we're in the market or didn't own an iPad, I'd most definitely by the 3 over the 2.

Before the iPad 3 came out (yes, I call it 3) I would have said absolutely. Now that I have the 3 I can see things a little differently. I'd give it a qualified yes. The screen is definitely much better. The processor change and memory change are noticeable but not as dramatic as I was expecting. I had a minor let down after upgrading but I'm over it.

I'm happy I upgraded but I can see why someone with an iPad 2 would have second thoughts. I had an iPad 1, too, and from that it's a no-brainer.

Ditto!

I went from an iPad 1 to the new iPad and I feel I would have noticed a bigger difference a few months ago. Back then it didn't seem like my iPad 1 could run anything for more than a few minutes without quitting. I had given up on even getting Infinity Blade to run.

But after I ordered the iPad 3 I tried Infinity Blade on my iPad 1... first time trying it on 5.1 Sure enough it worked. Other apps seemed to not crash nearly enough either. Since I was getting an iPad 3 I went ahead and bought Infinity Blade II--and amazingly it ran fine on my iPad 1. With only 256MB RAM. Wow.

So even an iPad 1 has some life left in it. Probably not too much as apps switch focus to the iPad 3, but I am surprised how well my iPad 1 is holding up.

With that said unless you really need or want the retina screen, which is indeed nice, I think getting the iPad 3 for iPad 2 owners is not mandatory. But certainly nice!

FWIW, I have 8 days remaining to decide (e.g., I own an iPad 2 and bought two new iPads on 3/16) before the 14 day return period runs out. I haven't decided, but I am very close to returning the two new iPads.

As I posted in other threads relating just to the new screen, the difference to my eyes is subtle at best; I originally bought thinking the sole decision would be which one of the two to keep (AT&T or the Verizon 4 G LTE iPad). Now, I'm not sure either is a keeper because the new screen does not, to my eyes, look dramatically better for what I do most often, which is read.

I can spot the differences if I look for them. But if I just read/watch video without trying to "see" great differences, it is very nearly a draw. Thus, I am leaning toward "not worth the switch".

If, however, you are blown away by the new screen, 4 G LTE (which is very fast, compared to 3 G), camera, and dictation, your answer may be different.

I have an iPad 2, I bought the new iPad and had it for a few days, I ended up returning them. Sure the screen was great, and Real Racing 2 looked awesome. Photos on the new iPad were decent, but I guess the weight was an issue, and the iPad 2 still works perfectly fine (didn't even have the iPad 2 for a year yet) The weight after using it became noticeable after using it for an extended period of time, and simply felt heavier compared to the 2. And while everybody is complaining about the heat, I admit it was bearable, nothing i thought was dangerous, that probably wasn't a factor.

I guess its more of, the iPad 2 is already feather light, just as fast as the new iPad (not including graphics), and taking photos/using dictation would be a rare occasion, it didn't seem like a justifiable upgrade. 4G wasn't even a factor since I have the wifi models.

Oh stop it.
iPad2 and new iPad owners don't want to hear such things that a meager original iPad can do the same tasks with the same screen(iPad2) even though it's 2 years old. :p

I went from the IPad 2 to the iPad. The screen alone is worth. I now have LTE and it is faster than my home wifi. I love having the 4g as my ipad2 was wifi only.

Colors on my iPad seem so much more vibrant than on my iPad2. The only issue is cost if you can justify it. For me it was a no-brainer.

It does seem heavier but I amholdind the new one more and with my ipad 2, I generally had it on my desk. I really like the smart cover also, first time using it.

Heck, even I didn't want to face that! I only tried to run Infinity Blade again so I could see just how dated my iPad was. I was shocked it ran so well--let alone Infinity Blade II.

I had original iPad and thought the upgrade to iPad 2 made a bigger difference than I anticipated with snappier processor and lighter, thinner form factor. I only upgraded because my son really wanted my original and was pleasantly surprised. This time, with the retina display, I considered it a no-brainer to upgrade. In fact, I had my iPad 2 sold on Craigslist until my husband reconsidered, wanting to keep it for himself. However, after receiving two different units with varying degrees of yellow and less bright displays, I can't honestly say it is worth the upgrade for everyone. The retina display is nice but it may not make a huge difference for lots of users. It's heavier, runs warmer, takes much longer to charge, and there is not that sense that processing capability has improved. I agree it would be a big upgrade from original iPad but otherwise, I'd stick with iPad 2. If my husband hadn't already staked claim on my iPad 2, I'd probably return the new iPad and wait for the 4th generation model to upgrade. It's bound to be lighter, run cooler, offer a 128g model, and get a noticeable processor bump. I agree with everyone on the wisdom of the 2-year upgrade cycle for most users.

No, it's not.

iPad 2 is quite good -- wish I hadn't committed to giving it away.

You can't justify it. I went from a 1 to 3 and it's a pretty noticeable upgrade but other than the screen it doesn't seem all that different from the iPad 2. The 2 and 3 are both dual cores CPU and you'll likely never tell the difference. I still feel the iPad 1 screen is quite good. You're happy with the 2 so if you get the 3 you'll also be happy with it. But you probably won't be happy you spent the extra money on it. My advice is to wait for the next one.

if you get your hands on an iPad 3 for an extended period of time you will see that the screen alone makes it that much better. my wife has iPad 2 and i have iPad 3, looking at her screen and i'm like wow, how did i ever use that?

I will say is worth the upgrade to jump from the iPad 2 to a 3 if you're using it alot if you're not then probably it isn't worth it then.

Not worth upgrading unless you want and the latest screen and or LTE, the IPad 2 is still a good unit...

Everyone has different needs, so of course everyone is not going to agree if it is worth the upgrade. For some, if you don't immediately notice or "feel" the upgrade then it's not worth it. I on the other hand gave it a fair chance and used it non stop since Friday. When I picked up my old iPad yesterday it was immediately noticable. This was not the case when I first got it, to be honest, I was a little disappointed. I'm glad I kept it, it was worth it for me.

The iPad 2 is a fantastic product. I love it too. I agree there is no absolute reason as its not obsolete.
But for most going for the iPad 2 to the iPad 3 is for the screen and make LTE. I didn't need to but I wanted too.
I love the iphone4 display and thought it would be great for the iPad.

It's a personal decision with no wrong answer.

Yes..It is worth it. Expecially since I was able to sell my iPad2 on Ebay and got top dollar for it since I kept it in mint condition after a year's use,.

Why exactly? The screen on the 1 and 2 is exactly the same. Sure, the 2 is faster, but not enough to say that going from 1 to 3 is a no brain decision. Unless your OG ipad is having major performance issues, there is not much difference between the 1 and 2. So to say that upgrading from 1 to 3 is a no-brainer, but from a 2 to 3 isn't worth it, is simply wrong.

Like I stated it was a personal choice.

I wanted the screen upgrade, hence skipped 2 as the screen was the same. The new screen in three is what I wanted in 2. To be honest nothing in the three apart from the screen really appeals to me, and how i use it. The CPU and GPU boost is pfffft.

Frankly as far as I am concerned ipad 1 and 2 screen sucks.
