Hey guys,

Sorry if it's been asked already but would pc world be a good option? No apple stores near me and I want a wifi pad. I can get to a pc world for store opening and wanted to know my odds, thanks guys !

The other day pc world were advertising on google under iPad 2. Seems they've stopped now. Maybe it was just to boost their rankings on iPad 2 search - who knows.

Here's the link to there iPad 2 webpage. It says they are coming, but that's all at present. I'd keep checking it though in case they update with more details.

it seems canada and other countries are launching in the morning....from what i've read, i'm still hoping for an official word to change things. No one has first knowledge about these things, why would apple resellers have confirmation of a 5pm launch and not Apple's own retail stores?

i'm just trying to keep my hopes up about an AM launch...

hopefully tomorrow (tuesday) we will know.

A guy posted on this thread a couple days ago who works for Argos and had an iPad 2 launch briefing. That's how we are expecting it to be 5pm

Yeah i saw that but it could just be speculation from head office, because as we know, apple are secretive bastards. :p

again, im just trying to keep my hopes up, if its 5pm, its 5pm.

It worries me that this is out in four days now and there's still no official pricing info.

Wouldn't worry, I am not expecting to hear anything really until Thursday or even Friday at 12pm (midday).

We have a date which to them is all we need for now, the info will come but usually quite late on. The iPhone 4 full details were the night before but people had already started queuing the morning before launch anyway.

Well folks there are 2 possibilities here:

1: Apple are hopeless and don't have a single clue about what they are doing.

2: Apple are deliberately holding back info just to cause as much uncertainty to the public as they possibly can.

Neither seems very impressive, or a good way for such a company to behave in my opinion.

I'm planning to go to the Norwich Apple Store-really don't fancy a 5pm launch, but if it is, it is. What's the best time to start queuing in that case?

Not sure, nobody really knows...

could be that 20 people turn up at 8am and nobody else turns up till 2pm, or could be 300 people in line by lunchtime!

Nobody really knows how much stock they'll be getting in either.

I suspect that we'll hear something this evening. About 17:00 - 18:00.

No reason for that, really. Just my spleen gibberling.

Went into the Bristol Apple store yesterday and asked one of the staff there - understandably, they couldn't say when they will be launched on Friday. The person I spoke to claimed they didn't know yet, which was frustrating for them as they are apparently working that day. It was a long shot, as I know they're not meant to discuss things that haven't been announced yet.

I certainly hope it's 5pm - finish work at 1 so wouldn't mind queuing up in the afternoon. Fingers crossed they don't push the launch date back for some reason...!

How does he owe that favour to a bunch of internet forum users he's never met? He owes his mate at the store a favour, not us.

As a fellow Cardiff resident, I'm sure you'll understand when I say that people in this city are generally quite courteous and helpful to each other. That said, I'm surprised you don't get the whole 'pay it forward' thing. The guy did him a favour, pass it on.

Or, and I realise this is a crazy thought, Apple are launching a product that's in massive demand in their home territory in several other large markets while one or more of their major component suppliers are currently in the middle of the worst natural disaster(s) for decades, hence potentially affecting on-going availaibility, and are juggling their stock allocation up to and including the last minute to compensate. If they put up pre-orders they end up with a LOT of unhappy customers who queue on the day, if they don't the mroe, uh, passionate Apple fans complain so really they're in a bit of a no-win situation.

I know I've said this before but might be an idea for people to calm down a bit. It's not the end of the world if you don't get one on launch day, there'll be on-line ordering if you don't want to queue and stock will continue to come in after Friday.

I suppose a complete lack of information at this point suggests that nothing has been changed. The release will definitely be on the 25th, but there will be no online ordering available until the day. Only question is what time on Friday, and who will definitely receive stock. By Wednesday I think the stores will know for sure, so it's all about waiting until then to bombard them with phonecall queries.

Fingers crossed that John Lewis start selling them on Friday (though I can't see how they will manage with a 5pm launch), at least then I can claim my 12% Partner discount :D

I would expect JL to restrict sales to partners if in short supply, just as they have with other high profile tech launches in the past.

They have? For what ? Hope that's not the case, but will have to check if it is sometime this week :(

Xbox 360, PS3, Wii.
They didn't as far as I'm aware for the original iPad due to it being released so much later in the UK and JL getting it 60 days later than the DSG.

Here is an extract taken from Policies and Procedures:

Sometimes, both in department stores and in Waitrose, we may have on sale items that are particularly keenly priced or that are in short supply. In these cases we may restrict their sale to Partners, or we may not allow you to claim Partnership discount on them.

You must not use your position at work to gain advantage over customers at the expense of the business.

I get it, but it doesn't apply here, because passing his buddy's details on to people here isn't "passing a favour forward" - it's presuming that a friend, who did him a personal favour, will also be willing to do that favour for fifty strangers off the internet. It's not passing a favour forward, it's passing a burden back to the friend. No favours are being passed or repayed by him giving out his mate's details. He was right not to presume upon his friend's good nature.

>.< Just tried to reserve iPad 2 16GB Wifi Black at argos.

Apparently you can't reserve over £1K of items, and an iPad 2 is £10,000.

So no reservations till the last minute then...
