I too thought it was less comfortable than the iPad 1. But I just changed the way I held the 2 and now it's all good.

While I don't have an original iPad to compare it with I will admit it can kind of dig into you hand, but I think that I heavily dependent on how you are holding it, and for how long.

Right now I am holding it in landscape mode, with my left hand holding it from the bottom while I type, that seems very comfortable. My thumb is under the space bar and my first three finger are cradling from behind.

The only time I have any discomfort is when I am holding it in landscape mode from the side.

Yes exactly. It never bothers me when I'm typing on it, but when I'm holding it for a long time -- like when I'm reading a book or a long article, then after a while, the edges start to bother me. This happens in both landscape and portrait, btw. And then I sort of have to think about how to hold it so that the edges aren't digging into my hand.

I'm guessing that the people who say they've never experienced this either just naturally hold it in a way that don't dig into their hands (instead of like me, where my first choice of holding position does dig, and I have to actively think how to hold it), or they don't use the iPad to read lengthly books/articles.

I definitely agree with you, however light and thin it may be to hold the device in your hand, the edges do give a bad and uncomfortable grip, as it is more sharper than the flat edges of the previous generation iPad.

i think iPad 2 is easier to hold, but i don't like the smooth aluminum back and i don't want to pay so much dollars for a thin ZAGG back invisible shield, so i put some transparent duckt tape on it and it's much easier to grip now.

I agree! I posted this a month ago and was accused of being a wimp. :)

Guess it was the way I wrote it. I now hold it with the smart cover in a triangle.

I find that it is much easier to hold than the iPad 1 (so far) which I often hold with one hand each night when I read before sleeping. After 20 minutes or so with the iPad 1, I would need to start alternating hands as i normally read for an hour or two. I just got my iPad 2 today and so I haven't used it for reading at night however, I will tonight :).
