After the iPad 2's a5 was benchmarked it got me wondering how far off it is from say an xbox 360. Does anyone else share this or have any benchmarks for a xbox 360 we could compare it to? My bet is that its somewhere at about a half to 3/4 the power of the xbox 360. Anyone else think so?:D

And how is the relevant??

Wirelessly posted (Ipod touch 4g 4.2.1: Mozilla/5.0 (Sonny Bro!; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I would say xbox 360 is still quite a way ahead of ipad 2

I'm just curious as to how far ahead. The xbox is 6 years old and things are catching up fast.

It's a little better then that. The NGP with 4 of these GPUs has about the same power as a ps3 so...

It does not have the same power as a PS3. It's games can look as good as PS3 games. That's a pretty important difference. Rendering graphics for a handheld vs rendering graphics for HDTVs is a big difference. It takes less power to reach current gen levels of graphics when your screen is that small.

This

I'm sick of reading child like statements about the power of consoles and handhelds etc, the Ngp does NOT have the same gpu power as the ps3.... It's not even close. The Ngp has a powerful chip for a handheld however the debs have many ways of using texture maps to improvise on graphical power not to mention the resolution etc as saberj has pointed out

The 360 BLOWS the iPad out of the water. Even if there were a fair benchmarking system, the iPad wouldn't even be on the charts.

Being a game developer myself, the OP actually has quite a point, as surprising it may sound.

The tech inside the xbox and PS3 was created from GPU technologies from over 6 years ago.

Based on preliminary tests the graphics power in the iPad I would say is pretty close to 50% of the PS3 and about 70-80% of the xbox.

Ill post some screenshots of a renderer test with a PS3 and an iPad 2 hooked up to the same HD TV (I have programed the render test to output at 1080i on the iPad 2 using the new accessory, so it will be rendering the same stuff the PS3 is).

Thank you! Someone agrees with me!

Fail thread. Btw if you are wondering, iPad 2 is a little bit faster than the PS2 and similar to performance to an Xbox 1. 360 wipes it on the floor. What was the point of this anyways?

Fillrate

SGX 543- 1 Gigatexel Ati Xenos – 8 Gigatexels (gigatexel = 1 billion)

Max Polygon(triangles) Count(per second)

SGX543- 35Million Ati Xenos – 500Million

Just these 2 things are very important. Polygon count is the most important by far and as you can see the 360 is more than 14x faster

Not even close. The ipad is about as powerful as a sega genesis and has less buttons than a nintendo 8 bit console. I don't think the ipad has anything that could be considered a GPU. The processor is based of old ARM technology, while the xbox 360 and PS3 have a server class IBM CPU that are used to solve complex computations.

There is no point. Just like the litany of other worthless threads on this site.

If you compare some of the Xbox Live Arcade ports of old 90's video games to the best-looking iPad games, the iPad clearly trounces the Xbox 360.

You my friend, are in need of some serious intelligence

I do not understand why the OP is being lambasted over this thread. He has a decent point. He is only trying to get an idea of how far away it stands. It's been said of this upcoming playstation phone, could somewhat compete with the playstation 3. The ipad is more than comparable, how is this any different. Nobody has programmed specifically for this platform yet, but people think they know the potential. The only "fail" I see in this thread is that of everyone whom who thinks that they know what they are talking about. seems to be alot of you
