Ipad 2 Wifi only or Wifi+3G that is the ???

Typing on a 16GB wifi only and buying a 16GB 3G. I just ran into too many times that I wish I had the 3G. Plus, you don't have to keep the service when you are not using it. Get it when you need it and cancel when you don't.

About the size. Having an iPhone I see no reason I need more space. And with folders in iTunes and a little preplanning it's not hard to keep exactly what you might want on it. That price-point makes the iPad worth it. 64GB 3G and the cost is just too high for a tablet, IMHO.

I do like that I can turn the 3g on and off by month as needed.

I like this too. Since I have an iPhone already I probably won't truly NEED 3G access on an iPad all that often... so this "as needed" data plan is attractive to me.

I'm not sure why I'm so concerned about jailbreaking the iPhone and getting MiWi or TetherMe, but it DOES concern me (for unknown reasons).

Wow... this thread has me seriously considering a 3G iPad. I was planning on the 64GB WIFI model. But only having to pay for the 3G when you want is tempting. GPS would be cool to have. I don't see myself ever really needing 3G, but the idea of being able to switch it on if I need it seems very appealing. I guess its back to the thinking board.

Any word yet on pricing for the plans from Verizon or AT&T. I think I would give Verizon ago since i've always had AT&T.

Same as before for prepaid. They've also added a post-paid option too, but that would be better for those who use it regularly.

Without going with the 3G option can the iPad still get a basic location. For example would the Augmented reality functions in AroundMe still work if Wifi only. I don't need navigation on this, but rough location for apps like AroundMe would be key. This would be my deciding factor I think.

I'm currently stuck trying to think what I should do. I had a 3g and have had unlimted data since. I stream sling, hulu and netflix often when I'm in hotels for work ( I find hotel wifi to be too slow to stream)

I'm trying to decide if I should keep my unlimted and get the 3g again or get the wifi and just use my iPhone as a hotspot. I just don't know if 4gb will be enough. Any thoughts based on what I use data for?

I hear ya on the unlimited. I am afraid to give that one up and then regret it later. Although for me the biggest thing was streaming XM all day while at work. I have shifted that to my laptop and that might be the difference I need to allow for hotspot and only 4Gig as a viable option.

Same here. I don't come close to using 2GBs of data now, but it's the "what if" that scares me.

Wish there was a place to check data usage. I don't have my ipad anymore so I can't check it. I know on my iPhone with sling here and there along with using pandora I been using around 1.6 gb. Streaming video is what scares me and sometimes I have to use the 3g for a few days at a time. Hotel wifi almost always is slower than 3g.

i dont have my ipad anymore so i cant do that. I just ended up adding the hotspot feature on my iphone and going to simulate what i would do on the ipad on my macbook air and see what data usage will be. if its substantial, then unlimited is the way to go.
