They could limit the use of the SD card. Like not being able to play video from SD. Or just keep the current limitations of the camera connection kit. If what you say is they absolute truth they would have never made the camera connection kit in the first place.

I'd forgotten about that, there's your sd card slot right there

Hey guyz, I just heard from my trusted source (a magical unicorn fairy) that the iPad 3 will only cost 99 cents! WOW you better believe me, I have sources.

Then theyd never sell anything above a 16gb iphone. they'll never do it

If it allowed them to reduce their product line, it might be worth it to them. Just one size of internal storage (I would guess 32Gb), let the user grow it as they need to. My guess, though, is that if they got that sort of route, the slot will not be in the iPad itself but in a separate 802.11 "myCloud" device. That would make a lot of sense for the traveler who might have concerns about their important data getting lost or stolen with the iPad (assuming the myCloud unit would, say, fit in your shirt pocket).

This, of course, is a few years off.

I certainly don't hope so. There are still too many places without a (good) internet connection.

Yeah, bad idea. Two devices who share a wireless link to transfer data the whole time. That thing is gonna eat battery life of the iPad (on its own battery). There already are devices out there which do this.

Seeing all the great tablets arise at CES, apple might want to step up its game and add some serious features to the iPad3, unlike what they did with the ipad2, and I don't think the retina screen alone will be enough to keep up with android (and maybe windows) tablets for another year. Sadly enough, I don't see apple adding an SD card slot, which would be the killer feature for me.

I'm looking forward to the pricing, just watching CES 2012, and a quad core Android based tablet will start at $249!!! with Android OS 4.0.. Will be interesting to see what Apple will do with pricing..

Do you have a source to confirm this? I really don't believe that there are going to be Android tablets starting at $249 with premium hardware components. The display? The processor? Graphical power?

ATT 4G vs 3G, In the Past a Bandwidth Cap

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=X5YMJT08N64
Well if it does get 4G, let's hope ATT does not have upload speeds capped like they did with other 4G devices.

Video shows the following:
~1.99Mbps Download Bandwidth ~1.27Mbps Upload Bandwidth on 3G,
~2.96Mbps Download Bandwidth, ~0.165Mbps Upload Bandwidth on 4G.

So how much of an improvement is faster download, when you cap the upload? Hopefully Apple applies their weight behind them so we do not have any artificial caps imposed on release.

Even though I'm a diehard iPad fan (I own both an iPad 1 and 2), I recently purchased an Asus Transformer Prime because I wanted external controller support for games, plus the roms/emulators that Android allows. The tablet itself was garbage-- six stuck pixels, abysmal WiFi performance, nonexistent GPS, sluggish performance, etc. Needless to say, it was returned very quickly. However, the one bright spot in the entire debacle was the keyboard dock. Even though it was cramped, it was nice to have the extended battery (about 16 hours) and the extra ports without the need for adapters and dongles. I hope that the iPad 3 comes with such an option (but I highly doubt it).

Currently, I'm hauling around an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, but it's bulky and less than ideal. I find myself just taking my MBP instead of my iPad/Keyboard combo. If Apple gave us such an option, the advantages would convince me to haul around my iPad a little more and my MBP a little less. It would be great for meetings and for travel, when space is a commodity.

Retina display game lag

Let's hope they don't stuff up like what they did with the iPhone 4.

Certain intensive games such as Modern Combat 2 and 3 lag more on the iPhone 4 than older generations like the 3GS.

After the iPhone 5 rumors, I am just going to sit back and and wait for the iPad 3. It will be what it will be.

I just want to state that most of my 'claims' have been made before the big sites started to talk about them (like the possibility of a cheaper iPad). :)

I posted this on January 3rd, well before all the rumours about improved cameras came around, and more importantly, my last rumour on the list seems to be confirmed by the leaked photos: I said the design would be similar, but not exactly the same... and the photos that are leaked by M.I.C. Gadget suggest I actually was correct! :)

Whatever comes out, I'm getting a 3G one this time

Oh, why are you getting the 3G one this time?

Why not wish for the world? Here's my wishlist of new features:

  • UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
  • CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz)
  • 4G Capability
  • ARMv8 Dual-Core 64-bit CPU @ 2GHz
  • Assisted GPS and GLONASS
  • 1920x1080 AMOLED Screen
  • 8-Megapixel Camera
  • LED Flash
  • Stereo Speakers
  • Bluetooth 4.0
16:9 screen? Eww no thanks :D

Also ARM doesn't have any 64 bit CPU designs available yet.

But anyways, pretty much the one thing I want from iPad 3 is a retina display. I feel like the retina display has to be coming, otherwise iPad 3 would be the worst incremental upgrade ever. Mainly because the iPad 2 is already the fastest iOS device available, a speed bump would be incredibly lame.

Other than that it would be cool if the Wifi version also got a GPS chip built in. They probably don't do it because people would complain of slow satellite lock times (compared to their smartphone with cell tower assistance.) Better speakers would also be a nice addition.

Yeah, I'd definitely like them to put a GPS chip in the WiFi-only model. Seems unlikely, though, since most GPS chips (in phones) nowadays are baked right onto the cellular chip.

I'd like Apple to give us really good audio too, yes. Perhaps they could somehow implement small speakers inside the black (or white) bezel around the display. This would allow them to give us true stereo-sound (in any orientation).

i do agree that on a tablets, stereo audio would be nice.
On iphone, meh no not needed.
The sound on the iPhone should be a bit more louder... but that has more to do with the fact that Apple is limiting the maximum audio level in Europe.

Never happens, because stuff you cannot sell in large quantities needs to be expensive. Low-end Android crap is selling for 249 but not high end.

If you can only expect to sell a few hundred thousand units, your production cost goes through the roof...

This is why Apple's earnings are great, they can sell every single piece and do not worry about costs. If you can offer a part supplier a contract for millions of displays, RAM chips or whatever, you can negotiate the price easily.

I have seen this phrase so often...

If they put retina display and back it up with reasonable processor and Ram, I am sold.

I would love to see they get rid of 16GB models for good, and move on 32 GB as base model, but other than that... I am good.

SD card slot will never happen.

In contexts regarding the iPad and storage capasity, I think this is one of the most frequent phrases: "SD card slot will never happen."

It makes me - being naiv? - wonder is there really a sound and reasonable argument from Apple's side not to include this feature, a feature that so many users want and which would obviously seem to make the iPad better and easier to use? Someone who can give an answer or a hint?

agreed, i dont see why people bang on about the lack of sd cards. its hardly an inconvenience

It does not not matter if you have a SD slot or not as Apple is not going to let you store anything that would help greatly increase to usefulness of the device.
