how did you manage to sell a used ipad for more than a refurbished one from apple with a warranty?

I sold my iPad 1 on Craigslist, 64gb WiFi with the Apple case, cheap TPU freebie case and the camera connection cable for about $700. I basically gave the accessories away for free, so technically wasn't 95% of the value, but not that hard to do. Look at eBay....people often ending up paying more than retail for something all the time.

My personal iPad 2 was very easy, sold it right around Valentine's Day for $650 with a hard back cover and a knockoff smartcover, not too long before the iPad 3 launched. I had another 10 for sale (we bought them for our sales reps in my company) and sold them to various people and prices, again almost all of them near what I paid for them, all via Craigslist.

I think I did the math once and given the resale value of my iPad's, I've basically ended up "leasing" them for 10-12 months at an average price of $5 a month. That's pretty darn cheap to always have the latest and greatest version.

I think ordinary consumers not familiar with Apple products don't generally trust "refurbished" even though they are likely superior to buying used from someone else. But people see "refurbished" and think "repaired" which, technically at least, is true and that scares them. I don't hesitate to buy refurbs myself, but I can understand why others don't.

At any rate, this has been the pattern for me and a LOT of others on these boards. Go check archived posts and you'll see its true. Same goes for iPhones....I often see people selling their old version and upgrading to new, making enough money from the sale to pay for the new one outright. All depends on how desperate you are to dump the product. But clearly, iDevices hold their resale value EXTREMELY well with such a constant upgrade cycle.

Yes. It's seminal and ground-breaking compared to previous versions and to any other tablets on the market, for that matter.

Yes it's excellent! The new iPad is worth even more than they ask for it tbqh! I'm extremely satisfied with mine for the same reasons as you, as well as writing papers, editing photos with iPhoto, and entertaining my little sister.

And like others said, a refurbished is not a bad way to go! I bought my original iPad refurbished for $350 and was able to sell it for $325 10 months later to help pay for my new iPad. I bought a cheap $5 case on clearance. They hold their value amazingly!

Don't wait the extra six months for the new one ("iPad 4"). Six months of use or more from one of these is excellent! The only time I wouldn't buy one of these is any time less than two months before it came out (unless I needed one).

Do you want the iPad mini?

Thanks everyone for the responses. With the recent release of the Nexus 7, I was thinking hopefully Apple will come out with a smaller version of the iPad to compete with the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7. That is probably the best option for me because I'm only young and can't afford to go out and buy all of the latest gadgets all the time (as much as I would love to). Could you see Apple come out with an iPad mini along with the iPhone 5 in September/October?

Thinking of purchasing an iPad 3 for my birthday in September, at that point in time it would be half through its yearly life cycle. Would it still be worth purchasing? I'll be mainly using it for YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and of course MacRumors. Is there that much that then can improve from the iPad 3 to the iPad 4, that would make it worth upgrading? Or should I also hold out until the Microsoft Surface comes out? Not knowing if its going to be a fail or next iPad rival.

I don't know what iPad 4 will have….I am guessing new Quad core cpu with speed bump, new NFC chip, maybe HD Front-facing camera (FaceTime) and of course reduce heat on the back of iPad.

How could one NEED an iPad (or any consumer device)? It is just the degree of want that matters.;)
How could one need a car to go work when they can get up early and walk? How does one need a phone when they could just visit someone? How does one need shoes when they could walk on their bare foot? How does one need pizza when they could have broccoli?

Almost nothing in live is a need, but I bet there are enough people out there who feel that once in a while they need to eat a pizza, that they need to have shoes, that they need to have a phone and that they need to have a car.

You're assuming that no one needs an iPad. Why are you so sure? Maybe someone has a lot of meetings and this person wants to bring all his papers - digitally. Maybe someone is a doctor and wants to use a tablet to quickly find some information on a relatively unknown disease.

I bet this 'someone' who is a businessman thinks an iPad is needed. I bet this 'someone' who is a doctor thinks an iPad is needed.

There are only few things in life you really need, but I bet you own some sort of personal computer. I bet you own a phone. I bet you have a nice bed (while a mattress only could do just fine). I bet you have a television which can display millions of colours.

I bet if I take some things away out of your house, you'll feel like you miss something. You'll want to get it back. You need it.

I was actually thinking about the iPad.. However, having the Mac and iPhone, I just don't only want to use apple products. I was waiting to see what the Microsoft tablet is bringing, experience another platform etc. And since Microsoft was the pc leader forever, I'm giving them a chance and waiting first. But if u get the new iPad you won't be upset at all when the next one comes, it's not like having the older iPhone in comparison.. It's only an iPad

It is surprising to me how little folks know about the refurb store. And this forum is filled with folks who know about the refurb store, but are very, very afraid of it.

This lack of knowledge and/or fear avails many great opportunities.

ipad 4, yawn

i think the ipad is a mature product and i would only expect evolutionary changes in the product. i think apple made a mistake going retina instead of focusing of further weight reduction and evolution of the tablet form factor--but you can't argue with success.

Buy the current iPad within the first 6 months after it's released...it's fine. After the 6 month mark, you might as well wait. Especially the way Apple does pricing.

iPad 4 will have the weight and thickness reduction thanks to the IGZO display it will most likely have.
