I am tempted by the mini but will wait until I see it in stores. The iPad 3 is fine, I wish it had the cpu of the 4 but I will skip a generation and wait for the 5 which should be thinner and lighter. I have had all 3 generations and the 2 was my favourite due to the thinness and weight, I suspect the 5 will be thinner and lighter than the 2

Yes, both are within the return period so there is no reason not to. Otherwise, like you guys, I would not be.

Looks like I am keeping the 3, and that is fine. I put it on CL at a price that would result in a $200 upgrayedd fee to switch to the 4, but I doubt I'll get any bites. That is my max differential to pay at this point for the 4.

Nope. Waste of money for lack of a significant upgrade. I'll wait till the next generation, which hopefully will weigh less.

X2...I can't justify the $$$ just to upgrade my 7 month old iPad 3.

Nope. Hubby thought about going from his iPad 2 to my 3, and me ordering the 4, but I nixed it. I don't want it that badly (for once). My iPad 3 runs just fine outside of laggy App Store.

We're both skipping 4 altogether, he'll go from 2 -> 5, and I'll go from 3 -> 5. For me it's just not enough of an upgrade this time around.

Link? I haven't seen this claim anywhere yet.

I'm giving my iPad 3 to my wife, getting the iPad 4, and selling her iPad 2 to Amazon for around $400. When the iPad 5 comes out, my wife will get my 4, and we'll sell the iPad 3. Rinse and repeat.

Apple suppliers asked to prepare for next-generation iPad in mid-2013, say sources
Rebecca Kuo, Tainan; Alex Wolfgram, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 16 October 2012]
While Apple is adjusting the design of the New iPad, the vendor has told its suppliers that they will have to prepare for a next-generation tablet model in the middle of 2013, with the number of LED chips used in backlighting expected to be reduced from the 84 used in New iPad, according to sources with Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

The sources said the next generation iPad will remain its same 9.7-inch size but will simplify its components to give the device a simpler manufacturing design, such as the amount of LED lights that are used. The sources said the New iPad uses one-chip packages for its LED baklight units (BLUs), but the next-generation model will adopt two-chip packages, the sources added.

Apple is also reportedly making adjustments to its New iPads. But the revised version may not be introduced until the first quaret of 2013, said the sources.

This is weird...

One really weird thing about the whole iPad 4 debacle is, unlike any other time, there's almost no one complaining how small of an upgrade this new iPad is. This is doubly odd because it's far less of an upgrade compared to iPhone 5 (not even close) while iPhone 5 received so much complaints for being not much of an upgrade.

we are skipping the 4, but we are picking up a mini to try it out - for the possibility that we will not get another full size iPad again.

i could complain but I am not.

pointless since I don't even care about the iPad 4.

I am upgrading to 4, as soon as it hits Apple refurb store. I figure then my upgrade cost will be very small.

Oh, DigiTimes. They're never the most reliable source, and, in the paragraph you quoted (which I've actually seen before), they've already gotten it wrong. This article came out before Tuesday's event, and they state that the New iPad's revised version won't be introduced until 1Q13, yet it's already here.

Regardless, I see your point -- I wouldn't be surprised if we see another iPad revision in the spring -- but I haven't really seen any credibel rumors supporting that fact yet.

My ipad 3 screen is perfect.
Some web pages are a tad sluggish- but I assume they work out the software bugs soon enough. Other than that works 100%.

Fools are selling 3 for the 4. are taking a risk.
If Samsung is not making the screens I would be worried about QC.

They will be selling 4 for lighter/thinner 5 in a about 8 months.

$$ to burn

I have many reasons why I am not going to get the ipad 4 ( I have a chance to upgrade )

Another reason is now that qvc lowered the price of the ipad 3 I called in and the gave me a partial refund.

On another post someone mentioned about apps still being made for the ipad 2 and the mini... A5 chip will still run good on the A6X chip.

And so on...

I considered it because I heavily use my iPad 3 for work and play, and some of the work tasks I do push the processor (rendering complex PDFs etc.). But the lag for this is minor, the 3 is plenty fast for most tasks, and ultimately I decided to upgrade my iPhone 4S to a 5 instead. Either way the difference between selling the old and buying the new was $200. Decided I'd rather have the bigger screen and LTE on my phone than a minor bump in speed on the tablet.

I'm upgrading because I want Lightning to match my iPhone 5 (read: want, I did not say NEED, so don't tell me I'm making excuses), and I already know that when my A6-powered iPhone comes in two days, that the iPad's usage is gonna go down down down.

NEVER in my time of owning Apple products has an upgrade made me look at my previous gen device with distaste, until now. Apple dropped the product as soon as they could, why should I love it if they don't? As much as I will cringe clicking the purchase button, at least the sale of my old iPod touch makes up the gap and I will give up approximately $0.00, otherwise I'd just live with it.

No, I won't upgrade from 3 to 4. Apple products are longer useful life than just one model generation. Will probably upgrade to the next iPad generation (5 or 6). I handed over my iPad one to my brother and he was still wowed by this product as he has been using a PC only till now. So even an iPad 1 has still some useful life depending on what you need it for.

I see it like cars: the manufacturers release a new generation every year, but that does not mean that I will buy always the latest.

Im staying with the 3... Mine its working perfect and the screen is amazing. I really dont see the reason to change it for the 4.... Like others are saying.. I'll wait for the iPad 5

Definitely waiting for the 5. The 4 is the most minimal upgrade ever. I can't believe apple did that. People thought the 2 to 3 was minimal. hahahah

As for the mini, waiting for the retina display. everything of mine is retina, can't do w out it. Hoping new one comes out in 6 months. Someone will prob get me the mini in the meantime so wouldn't complain if I got one for free though :D
