Great news for the US but I wonder how Apple will re-value iPad 3 in international territories relating to differing exchange rates.

exactly how they always have....by looking at the markets. Every major product and commodity is based off of US pricing

Yep i would probaly have it full till 80gb average and when i go on a trip it would be close to full.

The million dollar question is....why? You don't download that much from the itunes store and it's all stored on your computer so what's the use? If you really need beyond 64 gb you should be carrying a laptop.

Correct. If iPad storage abilities were to soar up, and prices to remain the same, there would definitely be cannibalization on MBAir sales.

Interesting number of SKUs.

I figured with cellular radios that do GSM and CDMA like the iPhone 4S you only need a WiFi and Cellular edition (6 SKUs).

Then you have the color variation, and that could be the other 6 SKUs.

So the 12 SKUs seems to indicate that the iPad 3 cellular edition will be universal and you can use it with any carrier (presumably through a carrier selection screen), rather than buying an AT&T or Verizon specific one like last time.

Haven't seen this covered by any rumor sites or blogs in the last few months, but it seems like it would be a pretty reliable rumor (no more carrier specific iPads).

Thumbs up if it annoys you when people insist on installing their entire music collection on every device they have, only to listen to the same two or three playlists all the time!

Because if you delete a game from the ipad or app, you delete the documents of it as well. No way to get them back.
Plus i dont like to delete games i finished. I simply like a filled ipad. I do everything with it. I have like 50 comic books on my 64gb ipad, all humor movies, all music, all apps and games. Everything fits my 64gb, but barely. My movies are only 2gb and my music is also 2gb.

"Reliable tipster Mr. X has revealed..."

This is not good for senior Apple employee Xarles Xavier!

Since no one posted it yet... Guess I'll do it lol

Which is good because the last price rumor had some people outraged along the lines of

128G with LTE/iCloud. No need ...

If Apple would allow on demand download of movies and TV shows, they would be no need for 128GB. Most of the really big content are videos or data from OpenGL games.

In two years when LTE is available, the whole content ownership model will be obsolete.

Also, doubling capacity adds cost and risk of failure. QA is really important.
(Try to image the number of transistors needed for 64GB, let alone 128GB)

Not really. Go on a week-long trip and you can easily go above that with movies. I like to keep all my apps, magazines and books on the iPad for reference if nothing else. I have also been away for up to a month with no Internet access.

I will be disappointed if there is no increase in storage space, but I'll still buy the iPad 3 to replace my original iPad.

I'm the other way around; why keep movies and stuff on your iPad that you don't need to have? If you aren't going to be using it after looking at it once, what's the point? I put movie and shows on there as much as anyone. But I delete them after I'm done. Why slow your machine down?

why would i want to be carrying a PC when the ipad is Post-PC?

I'll be fine with 32GB again. Used about 16GB of space on my iPad 2, mostly apps. Music is on iCloud and only downloaded when I want to listen, a few videos, mostly apps.

I think for 128GB to be viable they need to upgrade the dock connector to use USB3 or Thunderbolt. Transferring that much data is incredibly slow.

I'm still expecting a cheaper iPad 2 to be available, $399 for 8GB iPad 2 maybe?

I wouldn't buy it, but it would make it more interesting for the education market.

I have this feeling that Apple is going to move the iPad to an iPhone-like structure.

Imagine: iPad 2 at the lower price point ($399), iPad 2S at current price point.

Maybe even a $299 or $349 8 GB iPad 2?

It'd sell like hotcakes.

I didn't think that Apple would change that policy. Some people complain that Apple doesn't lower prices on their products between the introduction of a product and the end of its life cycle like some companies do.

The advantage of that system is that when Apple does replace an old model with a new model, the new model generally blows the old one out of the water and the price point remains the same.

I don't think Apple is going to change that much under Tim Cook. A lot of analysts seem to be applying the strategies of other companies to Apple when it comes to predicting what Apple will do, like assuming that Apple would try and squeeze more money from people because they are introducing a retina display.

Apple achieves a healthy profit margin but when they update a product they do tend to deliver without gimmicks like 'iPadHD for only $200 more.'

Zzzzzz.....I'll hold on to my money. Waiting for a real powerhouse tablet with a real OS. Bring on the Windows 8 tablet. That's what the world's been waiting for. Can't wait.

So if the prices are the same, who's gonna pick up a used iPad 2 unless they get it dirt cheap.

Well iPad 1 retailed for £429, iPad 2 retailed ad £399. So there's a price drop right there but then they raised the price of IOS apps in the UK but cut them in Australia.

Point is, in the US the prices stay the same but in the rest of the world they fluctuate. $499 can mean a very different price in Euros, Sterling, AUD etc.

Edit: Im gonna guess $499 USD = £315 + 20% VAT = £378 + £21 Apple Tax = £399. So let's hope theyre the same as last years prices.

640K is all anyone needs...

Yes cause people actually would use that much on a tablet

Yes, people actually would use that much space on a tablet. I've got 29 movies that take up 38.13 GB and I've also got 88 episodes of TV taking up another 39.57 GB.

That's 77.70 GB right there, throw in my 8,562 songs for 47.35 GB and an additional 5.10 GB for the 123 apps I have and you're looking at a whopping 130.15 GB worth of stuff. As it is 128 GB won't even cover everything, and I haven't talked about the Podcasts I listen to or the fact I'd need extra space in order to use the built in camera to take video and pictures; kind of need room for all those extra activities.

Just because your personal needs don't merit a 128 GB device doesn't mean other people's needs don't.

Personally I don't much care if the iPad 3 has 64 or 128 GB, though I would much prefer 128 GB, since I have an iPod Touch for my music and I could offload the videos on it to the iPad. But the upcoming iPod Touch had better have 128GB because between my music library, a bit more than a 1/3 of which still hasn't been imported from my CD collection yet, and the apps, 64GB leaves me pretty close to the limit meaning I have to be very careful on what I buy lest I run out of space.
