It's good that the prices aren't going up, but I am hoping there is still a chance for an 128GB model, I've used up almost my entire 64GB. But whatever they release, I'm getting the Black top of the line version with 3G or 4G, depending what they announce on Wednesday

Yeah it's such a pain in the as.s to do that...especially with wifi sync. I'm gonna call your bluff and say that you're gonna buy it regardless.

No chance. I don't wifi sync. Try changing 64GB of data over wifi sync and tell me how it goes for you. At the very least I change 20GB at a time.

With a maximum of 16 it's not bad at all, which is enough for most people whether they accept it or not.

There is a finite amount of flash that will exist in calendar 2012. There is no doubt in my mind that I'd rather see much of that flash as larger storage capacity laptops and even super speedy desktops than having a few people be able to be lazy and keep more data on their iPad.
Apple puts flash into ipods, iPhones and iPads. They buy the SSDs they put into the laptops. So how much memory they put into the iPad doesnt impact their ability to make laptops at all.

This isn't coming from the perspective of a guy with no media. My iTunes library is upwards of 45,000 songs, I have close to a terabyte of movies and tv shows. I also got a 32 gb iPad, and have never once needed more than 16gb, including when I drove across the country and my laptop was stowed away. Had 20 gigs of my favorite music on my iPhone, a season of frasier
You realize how absolutely ludicrous this is, talking about never using more then 16 GB on your iPad then telling us about 20 gigs of music on your iPhone (and a season of frazier0. Here's an idea, maybe instead of carrying two devices, some of us want to put all that info on a single device. Now you need a 64 GB device by your own admission, because 1/2 full iPad doesnt have room for your 20 GB of music and your season of frazier.

Even if you are doing pretty great transfer its got to run 15-20 minutes for your 16 GB iPad, for the 64 GB its 4X that, so no most of us don't sync our 64 GB ipads for over an hour on Wifi, not when there are faster ways to do it. I have two packages (groups of documents) that are 21.5 GB and 24.3 GB, I end of changing those two out quite frequently depending on which customer (or aircraft) I am going to be looking at on a specific day. If a 128 GB model were available I wouldnt have to do that and may even add more supporting docs to help with my work.

actually I just do it with the cable. Takes a couple minutes...tops. If there's only two documents equaling 45.8 GB shouldn't a 64 be plenty for both with room to spare?

Besides wifi sync happens in the background. You don't have to initiate it. Thus when both you mac and ipad are plugged in it would happen automatically.

I don't mean to say at all that no one would need 128 GB or anything above 16 GB. I'm just saying that it's a VERY small percentage of people that actually need it, such as yourself. Most people just don't want to resync their ipad or realize how easy it is with wifi sync. The average consumer clearly does not need anything more than 16 gb. For most, the ipad is a luxury device. How many people get real work done on there? As a recent college graduate and current med student, I could not be productive without my laptop. The iPad was something I use more on the weekends or when I have downtime. From looking at my peers, I'd say this is the case for 95% of them.

Even with the cable it takes ½ hour or more to change out my movies and apps. I have a windows pc and it’s slow with 6TB of drive space. I need to clean it up.

someone sure can't enough of the kool aid. what does that even mean? That they replace pc's? Sure for some things like watching movies or web browsing and very few advanced uses. But if you're implying that ipads are all together replacing computers, particularly laptops, then you are very very wrong.

I have another device for you. It may help with your ability to understand sarcasm.

Unfortunately they don't make a device for people like you to utilize it correctly. Also, there's enough people on these forums that actually believe what you said so to distinguish is a task.

I am sorry that you fail at basic humor. Perhaps a visit to your local mental health provider will provide you an insight into why you do fail.

Progress in what regard? You say average user like it's something bad. So what...advanced users are too lazy to delete apps that they don't use or movies that they don't watch?

----------

oh and to call the average user the lowest common denominator is kind of dumb...considering that's what most companies cater to. What's the best selling ipad? 16 GB Wifi. if that's the case, why would you, as apple, make a larger one as the base model simply for the sake or progress (which it isn't)? By doing so you'd lower margins. And before you say "they can lower margins, they have so much money," let me say that there's no such thing as making too much money for a business.

----------

No but that defeats the entire purpose of an ipad. Sensitive group, the apple bunch. With that said, my regular devices are all the latest apple ones. But being logical isn't being a jerk. Calm down.

Thank you....my point exactly.

To think that totalitarians like yourself live in a democracy is frightening. Not only do you put up straw men, but you put forward a self-contradicting argument simply to serve your own purpose.

All the 'average' user wants to do is use email, browse the web and watch the occasional video. Why should we increase hardware performance, or increase specs of any kind if it's not currently requested by the 'average user'. Your mentality is anti-progressive, and adding extra storage for users who use the iPad as a computer, which is what it is, will in no way harm the average user who just wants a fancy web browser. In no way are you knowledgeable about what the purpose of an iPad is, so don't try and assert a point of view based on ignorance as though it were fact.

btw, the most popular iPad model, even though it's more expensive, is the 64BG 3G model, then followed by the 16GB model. It's hilarious to find people like you who know nothing and expect people to swallow what you say when google is at one's fingertips.

"Latest report from market research firm, Context said that the most popular among iPad models in terms of sales is the 64GB Wi-Fi+3G iPad 2 model. According to the Context’s report, the said iPad 2 model posted significant sales figures across Western Europe in the three weeks that it has been made available. This iPad 2 model roughly accounted for 1/3 of all iPad 2 sales while the 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad 2 is has the second most number of sales among iPad models to date." - Context market research

Businesses, at their very core are totalitarian. Apple is a prime example.

The purpose of an iPad is a leisure device for most. Market research backs that up. VERY few businesses need and iPad and amongst regular consumers this number is even lower. The iPad is not a personal computer. It was never meant to be. It can't replace one. Period. Textbooks will be replaced by at, as well as print media. But in academia as well as thousands of business, legal, and medical fields, the personal computer will remain.

Here's the best part of your pointless little rant...it was so completely wrong. I said most all of the things that you quoted prior to apple announcing the iPad 3. And look what happened; same sizes capacities and relatively minor hardware bumps. So by that measure, you must think Apple is anti-progressive as well. One more thing, the average consumer who uses it will use it for things such as photos, videos, apps (probably games), and such. Most of these things do nothing to "progress" the mind or intellect. Progress isn't throwing more hardware capacity or hardware improvements simply for the sake of sales. Not that it would have helped.

And as far as context's data. That's representative of Western Europe. Of course, you'll also look at return data and see that the 64 GB 3G was also the most returned one. Likely from buyers unable to sell them at extremely high prices due to saturation of the market. And what was the second most bought? 16 GB Wifi
