I think that its quite a possibility.

Watching the CNET video about Senseg though, its talks about modifying the electrostatic field to change the friction against the screen ...

I'm wondering: If it does it for the whole screen ( modifying the field ) , does that mean that multi-touch haptic feedback is not possible? or would it be able to modulate sections of the screen so that each finger can sense something different.

----------------------

Taking that a step further, it could open up a lot of possibilities for visually impared / blind users.

Even if they do something like this, it depends also the software! It can not simply assume what goes on on the screen and materialize it. Programers would have to completely re-code their programs.

It's not an option for this iPad or even iPad 4

I suppose most of these speculations are coming from the “.And touch” part of the invitation. It’s not a bad guess since Apple is usually very frugal with their use of language on these “teaser” invites.

It definitely means something beyond the obvious touch device: we’re either going to see haptic feedback, pressure sensitivity, some kind of touch extension into the bezel area - or - an additional/upgraded device, likely Apple TV 3 (given the other rumors currently circulating).

So if you play angry birds and hold the birds, you can actually feel the feather?:D

If you hold on ice, you'll actually feel the cold temp on your finger?

Is that it or not hahaha.

Anyway, what's that technology called that was in ipad 2 wherein when you play GarageBand and tap harder the sound will be louder and vice versa?

I don't know if that is going to happened or not but they got to push with new technologies for iPad, iPhone to not be left behind. Good example is the latest Samsung Galaxy Beam with projector installed.
All what I am saying is what would be selling point of iPad 4 or iPhone 5? Better processor and better camera? I am afraid its not enough to make me upgrade my iPhone 4 or 4s or iPad 2.
You mean this? Probably one of the ugliest phones I've ever seen. Who would want to carry this around in their pocket? And how often would you user the projector? It's times like these I'm glad Steve, Jony et al were just as focused on what to leave out of a product as they wee on what they put in.

This is way too amazing of a feature for it to be true, at least for this generation. However, the company's statment about not saying anything until after the launch gives it some legs. That's a curious thing to say if they're not doing anything for the current model. You would think they would have said something along the lines of "no, we're not doing this".

Wasn't that the accelerometer? Or am I thinking of something else?

I am going to go out on a limb here and say no. I doubt this tech would be in the iPad with no leaks surfacing until now. I hope I'm wrong, but Apple seems to purchase tech companies to incorporate features into their products, and only leases technology when there is no other decent option (Nuance).

We'll see in four hours I guess.

Damn these rumors! If there is no haptic screen now it will feel like a letdown. I think Apple is read to throw the hammer down though. I mean how could you NOT buy an iPad with a retina screen with 2nd gen haptics. It could be wifi only and I think I'd still buy it!

A lot of sober realism in here!

Maybe all that stink about them running into problems with the display revolved around getting this tech to work well at the higher pixel density.

Yeah, probably not. We'll see here in a few minutes!

Is that a Galaxy Beam in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Was thinking about this too. If it can sense and differentiate between multiple fingers in different textured areas etc... wow. A must have. The possibilities for this with apps would be incredible!

Apple has done a good job covering this rumor up. I hope it's true

If this comes today, Apple conquers the market forever... or 2014. Whichever comes first.

This would be a killer app-sort-of-thing. Now, will it come today? Doubtful, but it could be part of that rumored "amazing iPad4" coming in Sept/Oct with the A6 and so forth.

see=Retina display
touch=who knows?
Makes you wonder. It makes the "touch" part of the sign make perfect sense... but, you touch an iPad with or without this feature.

Remember the new Retina panel that surfaced? Ifixit or whoever had it wasn't able to connect it. If they had, they might have been surprised.

Maybe next year. I'll be shocked if we got all these new features and the base price started at $499. As with every year, we never get all the rumors correct.

The rumors have linked Finnish company Senseg with Apple and have been fueled by Apple's media event invitations carrying the tagline "We have something you really have to see. And touch."

If the tag line was "We have something you really have to see. And feel." I might believe this one. Those Finns at Senseg don't seem to have a good grasp of English.

edit: I see this was already mentioned... so I'm not the only one who sees the distinction here.

This is all getting too much. There is so much Hype and at the end we get disappointed. So please: be realistic, people. iPad 4 maybe, iPad 3: no.

Just look at the recently announced Android lackluster Tablets: Apple simply doesn't have to come up with a Top Spec iPad.

Somebody stated it already here in this thread: Something you have to see: Apple TV And touch: iPad 3

With Senseg's technology there are no moving parts - haptic feedback is not provided through vibrator motors.

Instead, an electrostatic field is used to mimic the sensation of interacting with different materials - I've seen a few demos and it really is magical.
Would whoever had access to the new screen be able to tell if this technology was incorporated (without plugging it in?)
