great response....

I wouldn't dismiss this rumor completely, albeit the likelihood of it actually happening seems very slim. On the other hand, I remember in the months leading up to the iPad launch had secured trademark rights for the words "iPad" and "Slate" by way of two different "shell" companies. Does anyone remember that? Yes, we obviously know that one of those trademarks is currently in use and it's very likely there aren't any plans to use the other (Slate) trademark at all. Given have yet to use it, it's feasible that said trademark could be used in conjunction with the iPod namesake and thus we could see an "iPod Slate" this fall. That could be the rumored iPad 3 in smaller form factor (bigger than iPod Touch yet smaller than iPad). Just a hunch.

this could be for the rumored 6 inch screen. Steve says that 7 inch tabs are DOA, but maybe a 6 inch iPod Slate would be the perfect size which increases viewing screen while maximizing mobility? This would probably run on the iPhone/iPod touch version of iOS rather than the iPad. Just add a few extra columns/rows of icons.

YES! This stupid rumor has died!

I'm tired of taking the fight to people who claim it's coming in Sept.

My goodness... some people didn't receive yet their iPad 2 (or hardly played with it) and now they demand iPad 3.... senseless over-consuming

Duh,

Apple Declared 2011 the year of the iPad 2. Why would they do that if they had plans to release iPad 3 as the hanging chad for 2011..

2012 The Year of the iPad 3... see a theme here?

No one in his right mind thought that there would be two releases in one year.

I thought/think it conceivable they would release a higher-priced Retina version of the iPad 2 just prior to the holidays to keep ahead of the competition. This is assuming the A5 SOC has the horsepower for it, and that the screens are available in high enough quantities.

What competition? It was never conceivable, and only complete amateurs who are completely removed from any knowledge of Apples own trends thought it possible.

This x 100.

People are really stupid, sometimes.

yeah I suppose this also confirms that there will be no iPhone 5 in 2011. Or OS X Lion. Or any substantially improved Macs. Or any great shakes in the iPod lineup...

Get real. Steve said that because it needed to be said. The rumors of a Sept iPad 3 were swirling and Apple didn't want to risk sales being impacted.

I'm not saying that there WILL be an iPad 3 in 2011... but I'm saying that his statement has no relevance to that argument. I think that slide would still have been there even if Steve was inwardly smiling thinking "untill the iPad 3 in September... *evil grin*"
See above comment as it applies to you. Not sure if you can read this with your tinfoil hat falling off of your head and covering your eyes, though.

I could just as easily call you a sheeple. Blindly following everything Apple says.

*zombie eyes* Yes the white iPhone 4 will be at launch. In a month. In the Fall. In the Spring. Sometime soon...

*zombie eyes* Yes Apple, there are no Antenna problems

You are simply holding on the blind faith that there will be no iPad 3 JUST because of that one slide and think I'm the loony one? Apple is a company, they want to make sales. There were iPad 3 rumors all over the place. They were right to say that wether an iPad 3 comes in 2011 or not. They used it because it went along with their theme that the iPad was the year of 2010. It is simply a marketing word choice, not a sneak peek of their product cycle. Get a grip.

Again, I'm not saying that we will see an iPad in 2011. I'm just saying that when Apple says "jump" I'm not going to say "how high". That slide has no bearing on when the iPad 3 will be coming out.

of course theres no ipad coming out in september. Most people who want an ipad 2 wan't get it until around may or later. That only gives people 4 months of the ipad 2. FAIL is what that would be. You don't need a rumor to guess that.

First the iPad is coming out with 2 revisions in 2011, then only one revision, then the iPhone5 is not coming out in June 2011 but in September 2011, then it is coming out again in June 2011, and then it is not coming out at all in 2011. Tell you what, I will believe it when I see it.

Exactly. Until Apple says it, it is all rumor. Maybe some are better guesses than others, but they are still guesses. Perhaps at one point they were partly true (like Apple doing prototypes of ipod touches with cameras way before they released them) but things change. THIS is why Apple doesn't talk about their ideas. They only talk when someone is a done deal, tested and ready to release.

In regards to the rumors, I don't see Apple shifting too far off their current pattern of one major release in each of Q2, Q3 and Q4 (Q1 is covered by holiday sales). That way they have high sales to help bolster their earnings reports and thus their stock values. Once the value drops it is harder to recover than just keeping it more or less high all the time.

Now is it possible that they would shift what falls in each quarter, perhaps or perhaps not.

Right now the carriers aren't really ready with LTE and the vendors aren't ready with NFC and these are the two big possibles for new iphone hardware. They are apparently already shipping the iphone 4 with a dual chip so that wouldn't really be an 'iphone 5' issue. So might they skip the baby steps of an iphone 4s and not do hardware. Sure they might. and then perhaps release the next iphone in Spring 2010 as their Q2 and shift the ipad to Q3, perhaps even including it in the whole Back to School promo to help push it into the school setting.

The talk supporting an ipad 3 in the fall could be a mis read on orders by Apple for parts to test possible set ups for next years ipad 3. Nothing more or less.

Instead of an iPad 3 rumor, wouldnt it be a Mac tab.. Like you reported early last week... The patent about spaces for a tablet device? Wouldnt that be clear to indicate that's apple is planning a mac tab running OS X lion?

Not sure you could have been any more contradictory with those two statements. Your statement proves the truth in their latest iPad commercial. Can't believe how many people fixate on the underlying technology, insisting that the iPad is inferior to other hardware, at the same time that they overlook, or sometimes even admit (such as you have done here) that the overall experience of the "inferior" iPad is better.

Until Motorola, or Samsung, or anyone else brings a product to market that offers a superior user experience, please refrain from criticizing the iPad for what it isn't. Especially since what it isn't doesn't even exist yet. It's one thing to compete with your competitors, but not really fair when you have to compete with your own (rumored) R&D.

I never said the iPad was inferior to anything. Reread it if you want to. I just am not truly impressed by it. it's only slightly more scifi than a macbook air. It could have been improved apple just doesn't care to.

Wait is okay if had quad core

Probably had quad core by then if not roll out this year, rather wait if mean had better resolution screen, cpu and most important camera !
