Wow, what a big surprise
Next rumor: Analyst's predict sky will remain blue after all.

What a terrible year for rumors.

The MacBook Pro refresh were released when everyone was asleep.
iPad 2 was released way under spec from what everyone was expecting.
Now, no iPhone released possibly this year.

2011: The year Apple wants just to end.

And in other news, Apple decides not to set piles of money on fire.

Seriously, it is going to take until the end of the Summer just for Apple to get the iPad 2 fully released worldwide and not still have long lines and delays. Then Apple will settle down, optimize the production, drive costs down a little bit, and get ready to rake in the profit as iPad 2 continues to sell briskly through Christmas. Releasing another iPad would just mean continued bottlenecks of supply, more research costs and higher production costs. Why do that when it still looks like Apple can sell every iPad 2 it can make?

I think the next iPad gets retina or something close to it. But that will require technical improvements in battery, power consumption and cost decreases for the display. I'm not sure when that will be economically feasible.

No. 2011, the year Apple makes more profit than it ever has made before.

And this is why we don't take Daring Fireball as fact people, even though I could have told you this 2 months ago.
Daring Fireball stated the iPad 3 in 2011 was PURE SPECULATION not based on any kind of rumor or inside info. I guess everyone forgot to read that part of the post.

And, yeah, duh. With what's going on in Japan right now, we will be VERY fortunate to see an iPad Retina display in 2012.

I could have told you this WEEKS ago. One of the dumbest rumors I have heard in a while... Hopefully this put's this stupid rumor to rest.

I feel like Apple could really capitalize on a late November refresh. Let that thing fly off the shelves for Christmas.

Not that Apple is having any trouble selling them now. :D

Maybe they won't do iPad3 this year but maybe give a Retina Display option in the fall? That would be killer on it's own... but I'd guess they'd save that for a 3.0 version.

iPad 3?????Didn't they release they iPad 2 about 25 minutes ago? Where the **** is the ******* iMac??????:)

ANALYSTS ANALYSTS ANALYSTS, so sick of them. what does it take to become a "analyst" some backyard trash talk? i could have guessed this with common sense

yeah I suppose this also confirms that there will be no iPhone 5 in 2011. Or OS X Lion. Or any substantially improved Macs. Or any great shakes in the iPod lineup...

Get real. Steve said that because it needed to be said. The rumors of a Sept iPad 3 were swirling and Apple didn't want to risk sales being impacted.

I'm not saying that there WILL be an iPad 3 in 2011... but I'm saying that his statement has no relevance to that argument. I think that slide would still have been there even if Steve was inwardly smiling thinking "untill the iPad 3 in September... *evil grin*"

Wow, who makes up this stuff? Why would Apple introduce two iPads in the same year? Come on people. Sometimes I think the rumor mill has lost its collective mind. I am sure we'll see the iPad 3 in Spring 2012. I am more looking forward to the iPhone 5, which we may see in October? That's the crazy rumor anyways.

I'd like to see something new in the iPad other than the standard "thinner, lighter" junk. Yes, the iPad 2.0 upgraded the RAM (to a whopping 512!) and faster CPU...but I'd like more/better functionality...more built-in (free) apps...stereo speakers...better screen resolution...and larger baseline storage (32GB is needed....64GB would be awesome)

Maybe the 7 inch version is coming.... The iPad Slate..... :)

I wouldn't dismiss this rumor completely, albeit the likelihood of it actually happening seems very slim. On the other hand, I remember in the months leading up to the iPad launch :apple: had secured trademark rights for the words "iPad" and "Slate" by way of two different "shell" companies. Does anyone remember that? Yes, we obviously know that one of those trademarks is currently in use and it's very likely there aren't any plans to use the other (Slate) trademark at all. Given :apple: have yet to use it, it's feasible that said trademark could be used in conjunction with the iPod namesake and thus we could see an "iPod Slate" this fall. That could be the rumored iPad 3 in smaller form factor (bigger than iPod Touch yet smaller than iPad). Just a hunch.
