tell me if i'm wrong..i remember back when iPad 3 announced..they have an issue of heating up really bad.

What? Your argument is flawed. The iPad 2 is still a functional device. In fact, it runs certain apps better than the iPad 3.

The iPad 3 was Apple being desperate. The A5X chip was never sufficient to drive the Retina screen. In certain cases the iPad 2 actually performed better.

I rushed out and got an iPad 3 due to Retina. That being said, I still think the iPad 2 is a more useful and better product overall. Apple should have waited to introduce Retina until iPad 4 so that the chip would actually be good enough for the screen.

Strongly disagree. Many games are unplayable on the iPad 2 and original iPad Mini due to having half the RAM. Page reloading is constant. The iPad 3 has none of those issues. At worst it's a little laggy with some of the new graphical effects that started with iOS 7. It's not going to run games especially well at Retina resolution, but it can scroll a webpage or the home screen as well as the any iPad.

Ipad 3 here

worked flawless till ios8 - really lags now, crashes - hate the ipad3 on ios8.
back in the JB era i would of saved shah blobs and made sure i could down-grade, can not be arsed with that anymore.

Listed ipad on ebay today- see how it goes

Most likely get new iPad retina - undecided re size: mini vs classic

I own the 3, was wondering why is it considered the unwanted stepchild in the eyes of many?

Also since, the 4, has the iPad been released annually or biannually?

The 3rd gen had the shortest lifespan and many slate it for that. It was capable, albeit a bit sluggish (which could be fixed by turning off animations etc) of running most Apps. I had mine up until earlier this year and it was fine.

I will always view the iPad3 as the ugly duckling of iPads. I purchased and returned a few of them due to bad screen qualities. I finally gave up and bought an iPad2 which is what I still use today.

The 3 was known for it's heat and charging issues. The thing would actually lose power while plugged in if being used.

IMO, Apple knew it was problematic and replaced it 6 months later.

I spoke to a few Genius bar staff once. Apparently it was considered a bit of a crappy interim model.

That being said, I brought one for my dad when they were first released and it seems solid. WiFi is a bit patchy, but not unworkable.

They would never admit it, but that's exactly what apple wants. People who upgraded past ios 6 are not having good experiences with their ipad 3 and now want an upgrade.

Mine is running fine on ios 6.

Sorry to say but apple wants exactly this - for their own products to work poorly on their newer ios versions so people will buy more hardware. Or else, they would have a recommended ios version for each device and allow us to downgrade to that for performance.

Will relegate mine to guest usage....they can poke & prod all they want !
To be honest am just glad to be moving on to a thinner , lighter & faster Air 2
